I'm a pretty average weeb-in-training who's trying to work his way through all the countless many animes.
Currently working my way through the Ghibli movies, and some other popular past anime. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Satoshi Kon is my favourite director, and while it may not be an anime; Utopia is my all-time favourite series.
Some stuff I love are rain, cold weather, nighttime, cyberpunk, chill music, FPS games..
If I can help it, I don't watch sad shows or films... (Or anything too sad really...)
I'm allergic to Ecchi & fan service as well. (I'm easy to cringe)
I try to stay relatively objective with my scoring (although I still recognize enjoyment as an important factor, and that will impact the end score), however if a show is bad at X but insanely good at Y, Y will usually make X redeemable for me.
Trying to be relatively objective also means that there's some animes that I might have given a 7, but which prefer to certain ones I ranked higher (an 8 or a 9). I can recognize that a show has issues but still love it for the certain redeeming factors it has. Love is unfair.
I'd also say I have a soft spot for unique animes, or animes that take risks and stray from the norm.
[10] A masterpiece. An ageless classic that will forever stand tall as a crowning achievement. Maybe it's not 100% perfect, but it IS something that I think is so well crafted and put together that it gets real close. All it's elements (music, writing, enjoyment...) are superb and I struggle to find even one minor problem someone might have with it. Examples: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Perfect Blue, Sennen Joyuu/Millennium Actress
[9] An amazing, still very special anime. I can identify a few very minor problems some might have with it, or I might have one very, very minor one myself; but overall this anime is still close to perfect in both part and enjoyment, just a bit less close than those above it. Examples: Patema Inverted, Hunter x Hunter, Space Dandy
[8] A great anime. It has a few, probably more blatant (albeit small) issues than those scored above it for me, but it was still insanely enjoyable and well-crafted; and will still stand-out among the majority. Examples: Cowboy Bebop, Attack On Titan, Zankyou No Terror
[7] A good anime. I have, or can see, a few issues with it (still relatively minor ones); but at the end of the day it was still at least pretty enjoyable, and the issues I had with it didn't manage to get in the way of that too much. Examples: Death Parade, Youjo Senki, Overlord, Elfen Lied
[6] A meh/OK anime. I might have had rather large problems with this anime, but there were still SOME redeeming parts I found to it. Examples: Monster, Tokyo Ghoul, Dragon Ball Super
[5] A very average, rather disappointing anime. I found quite a few glaring issues with this anime, and had some myself; thus I did not enjoy it much either. If I knew what I do now, I probably wouldn't have originally watched it. Examples: No Game No Life, Re:Zero
[4] to [1] Ranging from just bad to astoundingly terrible. These scores shouldn't need much explaining. None of these shows I enjoyed much (if at all) and they all had rather nauseating issues throughout. They're failures that definitely weren't worth my time. Examples: Tokyo Ghoul √A(4)
For me the best openings and endings are ones that succeed in getting you hyped for the upcoming episode and accurately reflect the current or overall tone of the show & and the relationships of it's featured characters. A good OP/ED definitely has to bring out emotion in the viewer. These succeeded in that for me.
Opening/closing tracks not included! I like a wide range of music, so the tracks I like the most are those that I feel capture the emotion/atmosphere of where they play during the best. Whether it be a touching moment, a badass fight scene, etc; they stood out.FYI there's too many from Samurai Champloo for me to list here. It'd be unfair.
These are only the ones I could actually find on YouTube (and remember...) that also aren't too spoiler-ish.
That, and also some of these are more of a sequence than just one "scene" ;p
