Camping, unlikely friendships, good scenery and laughs - when it comes to vibes there's a lot these two series have in common. While YuruCamp does focus on school kids traveling around Mt Fuji and Isekai on a salaryman and his familiars in a fantasy world, there's some similar personalities and dynamics to boot. Also, if you're looking to learn basic Japanese cooking skills and recipes, you'll come away with plenty of new dishes between the two.

Cue!

Looking for an idol anime but with less singing? Then these anime will definitely catch your attention. Cheer Fruits follows a Tokusatsu performance group, while Cue! follows a voice acting company. But both follow traditional idol tropes, reference other series, and poke fun at their respective industries. Cheer Fruits has a much smaller cast and clear storyline, while Cue! has a massive cast with a strong slice of life, episodic format.

With similar friendship dynamics - neither of their central pairings see eye to eye almost ever - to the hidden corportation of creepy, the competitive nature of nearly everyone (even when unneeded), the insertion of often totally random musical sections and with magical otherworlds in the mix, you get the point, there's a lot of similarities between these two series.

Star☆Twinkle Precure
add

If you're looking for a magical girl anime with a love of artwork, imagination, and colour, Star Twinkle Pretty Cure and Balala Over The Rainbow are going to delight. Each series follows its magical girls as they explore another universe - while STP focuses on aliens and space, B:OTR prefers magic creatures in fairyland - with a very slapstick style of humour. STP is arguably more mature about it than B:OTR but both are family friendly affairs!

If you're looking for a fun series with a unique take on magic powers and a focus on the greatness of family and friendship, both of these have you covered. Yoyo and Nene have a lot more action than the laid-back Flying Witch, but both share a soft brand of comedy and gorgeous artwork throughout.

Gekidol: Actidol Project
add

Post-apocalyptic teenage performers doing their best to bring cheer and art back to their downtrodden world, against all odds, is a good description of both series, yet they are also very different. AKB0048 is a reimagining of a real-world idol group, hundreds of years into the future, They're borderline magical-girl in terms of their abilities, and face threats of robots and space police. Genkidoll, though set in a destroyed future, is in a Japan that's already looking up. Their issues are largely real-world struggles of todays' idols but are no less serious, and are mixed in with other, darker, disasters.

Tropical-Rouge! Precure
add

Also known as Balala Ocean Magic, well, the title says it all! Tropical Rouge Precure has a less obvious, but still relevant title. Don't get it yet? Let me spell it out then - both series are about magical girls who deal with ocean themes! This Precure series is more slapstick comedy than usual, so the feel and comedy of each is quite similar, along with the theme, genre, and animation. Balala did the ocean theme first, but Precure is the more well-known franchise. Precure focuses more on action and is more character-driven, while Balala has a more slice-of-life feel and is story-driven, though each has plenty of cute girls doing cute things!

Anime that poke fun at magical girls are surprisingly common, but these two share protagonists with less-than-typical goals who struggle to fit in to the stereotypes. They have very different approaches to the slice-of-life elements, largely due to their very different episode lengths, but the comedic timing and styles are very similar.

Following two diverse groups of girls who put on performances to save what they love. LL's team splits into several idol groups, who compete both on and off the stage, while AHCFs split into Heroes and Villains on stage, and are purely competitive off it. These series have a strong focus on character rather than plot, and though their stages may be very different - LL being singing and dancing, AHCFs being anime Tokusatsu magical girls - they're both very fun and exciting to watch, with the shows evolving as the girls improve themselves and their friendships.

It's undeniably obvious that Fruit Tart was inspired by Love Live. Each series has a collection of quirky young women aiming to achieve fame for the sake of saving something - for Love Live, that's their school, for Fruit Tart, the dorm. Their respective protagonists, Honoka and Niko are both extremely bubbly, naïve, and overenthusiastic protagonists surrounded by people with actually applicable talents, which makes for some fun group dynamics. Several other characters show similarities, but each has a different twist and backstory to make them unique. Both shows are idols, featuring a variety of fun dance performances, chirpy songs, fanservice, and cute girls doing cute things to promote and better themselves.

If you're looking for cute girls putting on performances and getting famous for the sake of saving what they love, then both shows will be up your alley. In AHCF, it's all about tokusatsu shows, while Fruit Tart focuses on an idol variety show. Each series has a very quirky, fun, colour-coded cast of cute girls who do cute things, but with a surprising amount of plot and actual twists you won't expect. Each show pokes fun at the way their real-world equivalent industries are received and are created, which makes it more enjoyable for adults than similar series. Neither one takes itself too seriously though, with plenty of parody-style jokes and in-series gags. Fruit Tart has significantly more fan service, while AHCF has much more magical girl style action scenes.

Magical girls and idols with a twist are the main themes of both series. Each one includes and subverts the tropes from those genres in entertainingly different ways. While the Lapis girls want to save their grades and stop monsters from destroying the world, the Cheer Fruits team are trying to save their town hall from politicians. Both go about achieving their goals by putting on performances, though the style and setting are quite different, both are very entertaining and full of slice of life moments.

If you're looking for Magic Idol Singers with a big heaping of CGDCT and a side of bad guy fighting, then these are the anime you're looking for! Both series feature a large cast of idol hopefuls and their predecessors/mentors, and featured a variety of genre-blending tropes. They're also both multimedia series, having anime, manga, CDs, and real groups behind them. The major differences come from their themes. AKB0048 has a heavily sci-fi, post-apocalyptic series, leading to more action, while Lapis is set in a medieaval-fantasy high school, which lends itself to more slice of life stories.

While their struggles are all different, the reason for them - keeping their magic secret, and wanting to be successful as themselves as well - are very much the same.
