my question is what the hell do I follow this series up with? I legit want to rewatch the OG series with my brother in law of just so I can show him this fight and have it hit him like it's hitting me rn
0079 (duh), Zeta, Origin, Char's Counterattack, 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket, Stardust Memory, ZZ (optional, haven't completed it myself), Unicorn, skip rest/save for rainy day.
ZZ is pretty rough starting off, I'm sure you've read how Tomino was depressed and wanted ZZ to be a comedy instead of a drama. The animation isn't great either IMO, and coming right out from Zeta you will be hella disappointed. 08th MS Team is fucking grand, worth a rewatch or two, I would rec binging it. Not sure if you are a dub fan, but the dub is worth a shot even if you aren't. I actually watched 0079 dubbed first, rewatched a few eps in the original Japanese. I find dubs for Mecha anime in general are a league above dubs of other genres, not sure why but it just fits. I even watched NGE dubbed (ADV, not the netflix shit fuck that). Like I said in my last comment, don't skip Victory. The first ~10 eps are pretty damn good, then it goes to average and then kinda shitty in the end, like many Tomino works.
If you really get into it, there is also a novelization of the events of 0079 that are WAY different. Certain key events are changed, it ends up being much darker. It helps to have seen the series first in order to have some plot points to grab onto because the translation is pretty rough. It reads like a non-fiction book at parts but is interesting, I say this having only read a few chapters.
This convo inspired me to purchase my first piece of Gunpla in years, it was at my local target of all places. MS-06S Zaku II, 1/144, Red. I plan to build it while revisiting my favorite UC Timeline eps (ep 37 for sure, Duel in Texas, yeehaw motherfucker)
Oh yeah one more thing, there is a trio of movies that adapt the 0079 timeline much more concisely and adeptly and are responsible for popularizing Gundam in Japan. The original TV show was actually canceled due to low ratings, such a fucking shame. The movies are great if you need a refresher after a few years or want to show it to a friend who isn't an otaku (who was IRL friends anyway tho?)
How are you doing?
Be'lakor is one of my favorites as well, Contortionist and Leprous are awesome, Haken and The Ocean I'm in the same situation where I've heard a lot about them but never actually heard their music, but I'll check it out for sure. I've been really into Gorod and Morbus Chron lately, good shit!
