Alright you are right, I dont think I can go on 20 more episodes until something significant happens. I don't mind slow shows but this one just doesn't have characters to my liking.

I see you have Oniisama e on hold. You didn't like the narration or the fact that the characters look weird? I am watching it now and it feels like the female highschool version of Welcome to the NHK. The main girl life is getting destroyed bit by bit and it is rather painful to watch but worth it I guess.

Thanks, it was really nice and hearwarming even though I didn't know what they said beside basic japanese words. Music really makes it special and at least they animated the weather and scenery so thats cool haha.

Is there any point in where Touch gets good I am at episode 5 and it is pretty boring for me. I am also not into baseball so maybe that could be a reason. I am asking this because I dropped Erin at episode 3 until someone told me that from ep 7 onwards it gets good.

where did you find heart cocktail. I wanted to watch it several days ago and couldn't find it.

I just wanna mention I had that same C. S. Lewis quote on my profile for over a year up until just a couple weeks ago, that's so interesting seeing someone else who loves it

No one told me anything about my low mean score but I guess for you its different because you have 3.7k entries. Same as you I have some hentais and weird ovas in there that pushed the score down but I try to keep it true to myself. I usually don't get many comments because the people I talk to don't have that much "traffic" on their profile.

All cool with Kimagure no need to force yourself. I haven't really seen that many 6 - 7 on it just 4 and below or 8 and above. It is just a hit or miss idk.

Alright, got it. I will focus more on the main characters drama rather than the whole cast. I was pretty sad seeing that you rated Kimagure a 3 but in the same time I wonder how good Maison Ikkoku is to make someone devalue Kimagure this much. So far the only progress Godai made was passing an exam and usually when he does something right romantically he just blows it the next episode. That 3rd party makes things more complicate for him too. It is fun looking at how hard he tries at least.

Maybe I will change your mind on Kimagure so hear me out. It isn't objectively the best rom-com, it actually has some fillers but imo those are a breath of fresh air because the series is more "tense" at times than Ikkoku. What attracted me to it is that the main character is indecisive in a way which he resonates with me personally because it isn't the typical anime indecisiveness it felt real like he had to decide whether to throw away his kind nature or his love. From other mal users opinion they say it is annoying but I feel that it is justified and really painfully relatable. What I will say is meant to be taken with a grain of salt too but I feel like the girl in Kimagure is way superior to the one in Ikkoku because she has realistically genuine traits compared to Kyoko that acts so pure and kind at 22 years old after a "failed" marriage". The production value is a bit worse than Ikkoku but it balances out with the creative imagery and shot composition that makes it really popular for thumbnails and gifs on future funk music videos if you are into that stuff.

As Erin I can say this anime is not for everybody and there are people who consider it borderline trash and others that just connected to it on a deeper level. So if it will help you watch through it sometime just try to relate to it instead of enjoying it and if you click the enjoyment will come naturally.

I was worried for a bit that you would be a diehard fan that doesn't accept criticism but I am glad we agree that even our favorite anime has its flaws. The only novel I read was the Welcome to the NHK one because I heard it was darker than the anime and at the time I was an edgy teen. I will read Erin novels but I don't know exactly when. I will ask you for more details about them when I get the time and when I am in the mood for them. I still gave Erin a 10 because I am not that delusional to think that the people making it had an infinite budget or anything illogical. Same as you I saw that by the last 10-20 episodes a lot of the animation was reused and the flashbacks were way more frequent. Breathing room episodes are a good idea but the final result was decent nonetheless.

I had a hard time keeping up with the conflicts but I assumed it was because I didn't watch that many history themed/space opera anime. Good to know it was not my fault for that. I really wanted to see Ial getting emotional and see his relationship with Erin grow past the point of "war buddies". As you said here the main focus is Erin so the other important characters got limited screen time. I can't really tell if it paid off or not because I can't imagine Erin getting less screen time in the span of those 50 episodes. At this point it is all speculations so I better stop here.

True that Joe ending is the best in all anime for all I know. The 100+ episodes help tremendously in flashing out his character and make the ending all the more worthwhile. Not to mention the other characters that were memorable in their own way through the series and influenced Joe along the ride.

Erin really is a great character that is impossible to dislike. I would have added Erin in my favorites too but Anne is more dear to me because of her imaginative way of thinking. Also I agree with everything you said about the way in which the story gets more engaging with the use of picturebook-like visuals and so on. Sorry for not adding anything to that but I didn't have the time to think a full fledged analysis of it. From everything you said I can tell you are really passionate about Erin and did your research thoroughly. Pretty hard to find anime fans who go the extra mile when it comes to their favorites.

I enjoy reading long mal comments if the other person is on the same length as me so its no problem. Currently I am watching Maison Ikkoku because my favorite manga ever is Kimagure Orange Road and everyone says Maison Ikkoku its better so I want to see for myself. After that I plan on watching the Kimagure anime too to compare them. I still think I will like Kimagure more too it is too relatable for me not to. My main problem with Ikkoku atm is that the side characters feel like they are there just for gags and sometimes they even fall flat. Do they get explored more or they stay the same until the end?

Hope you don't mind long comments either.

Hey, I finished erin today. It destroyed me emotionally every several episodes but the ending is optimistic so I am fine now. I was really surprised at first to see that a new-ish anime has a world masterpiece theater vibe to it and I was really curious to see what happens but not hooked until episode 7. I am still thinking where to put it because last 10 episodes felt kinda forced but the other 40 were just 11/10. Idk if you agree with me but AnJ had a better ending but it wasn't even close to erin story telling wise.

TLDR: Tell me what is your opinion on Erin ending and if you think anything could have been better.
