This story can be hard to get into but once you do its a masterpiece.
The main characters' struggle with killing monsters while simultaneously becoming one himself is beautifully written. As the story continues you wonder who you can trust around the protagonist. The art is beautifully done and adds to the horror elements in the storyline perfectly.
While it's technically a horror manga the psychological aspects in the plot are topnotch and really make you feel for the characters.
The romance in the story is neither sappy nor lustful but develops like a normal relationship would (or as normal as it can during the story's plot).

I loved the manga so I was really looking forward to the anime. But after it was delayed 4 months it's released as 12 5 minute long episodes. They took the most basic scenes from the manga and tried to make it more into a horror anime instead of the psychological anime it should've been. While the art is good they censor most of the episodes anyway so you barely know what's going on. The only saving grace is that they stuck mostly to the manga storyline though they removed a lot of important scenes in order to keep it so short.
