Getting straight to the point, this show would have been more enjoyable if not for the following reasons:
-Too much focus on "action" scenes that were just animated lines of bullets flying around, with the occasional explosion for dramatic effect.
-Not enough world-building. So much potentiel was wasted. What are plants actually? Where did they come from? What is this lost technology they keep mentioning? How do plants exactly keep cities alive and thriving?....
- The characters weren't fleshed out enough. Again they were too preoccupied "comically" dodging the barrage of bullets flying at them to leave much of an impression of their personalities on the audience. Vash,
...
for starters, fails to be convincing with his pacifist way of life when it seems like he's only living by the words of Rem and letting her be his moral compass from start to finish. Meryl and Milly are there for the comedic relief and fail to have any purpose or impact on the unfolding of the story. Therefore, they're easily forgettable and quite unnecessary to the plot. Wolfwood gets more charterer development, (spoiler warning!) however he still seems foreign enough that his death isn't that impactful. Knives, a two dimensional villain, who's there to be the complete moral opposite of vash and make his goal of saving everyone a tad more difficult. Legato, Knives right hand, seemed very intersting but didn't get further development than being ridiculously OP and depressed. There was also a forced romantic plotline between Meryl/Vash and Milly/wolfwood which was wholly unfounded and seemed out of left field.
-Overuse of shonen typical clichés: Every other woman that appears on screen having heart eyes for Vash for no reason other than MC rizz (Vash has none in fact), Abuse of the damsel in distress trope, Terrible comedic timing..
-The ending: So much build up for the final boss showdown, only for it to be very unexciting and underwhelming. Knives was supposed to be powerful enough to have even someone as strong as Legato as his subordinate, yet his skill set seemed like a copy of Vash's when you'd expect something more unique to his own style.
