Waitaminute, feels like you cherry picked two songs that sound super similar ;) The SAO tracks don't sound like the Xenosaga ones that much. Well, since I didn't even know that Xenosaga 1 had a different composer, I guess I'm not very qualified at recognizing music from composers orz...

I played Xenosaga such a long time ago, I don't recall the combat systems that well anymore. All I remember is that Xeno 2 felt like it was dumbed down compared to Xeno 1 and that in general, the gameplay was slower paced than other JRPGs. I'm not even sure I'd have the patience to play it again if I tried today.

I've heard of Yuki Kajiura before, but I honestly can't recognize her songs from one show to the next. I can't recognize any composer's music in any show actually... As long as it evokes some FEELS, I'll probably like it. And piano tracks have so much feels in general, so that's why I like those.

I'm surprised you skipped Xenosaga ep 1 and started at the god awful episode 2. I finished ep 1-2 and started 3, but never got past the first couple of hours. Just thinking of Xeno 2 makes the rage come back. They stripped away the anime style visuals and replaced them with lower-res and more generic models. The story was also subpar and the combat system didn't evolve much from the first game and was forgettable.

Haha, it's true that all of your replies to me on MAL have been pretty long, though I don't mind at all. You back up your points of view with conviction ;). When I saw you use the word "finally", that's when I felt you were writing an essay instead of an informal reply (・∀・)

I think SAO has a really good first half actually. Kirito doesn't suddenly became great at the game. It's because he's such an MMORPG addict, played the beta of the game and grinds like crazy that he's uber powerful. I also see nothing wrong with him having a harem (╹◡╹)

I thought the show had pretty good OP/ED. The two EDs that Haruna Luna sang were especially good. And the main theme of the show is suitably epic as well, especially the bit at 2:15. There was actually a bit on the SAO radio show where a reader said that the chorus sounded like they were saying "yakisoba" or something like that.

You've made me curious now. What kind of music do you look for in an anime? I usually like piano instrumental tracks.

Interesting take on how MMORPGs being less grindy is a "good" evolution/improvement. I just read an article today saying how FF14 is good because it's not following the tendency of other MMORPGs to simplify gameplay to make it more casual friendly.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/09/final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-impressions-proud-to-be-an-mmorpg/

Although I'd say the reason FF14 doesn't stray far form the classic MMORPG formula is because it's made by a Japanese company :P. Square-Enix doesn't innovate fast enough and blindly does its own thing without looking at industry tendencies.

I never understood the appeal of LoL. Everyone I know plays it but I've never gotten into it myself. Each match lasts way too long (30-45 minutes). That's kind of why even though I like strategy games, I haven't played many of them lately. Too much of a time sink. That's why I like AC, you can play 5-10 minutes and just stop.

Also, I'm surprised that a MMORPG fan like you hasn't watched SAO yet!

JRPGs also used to be my favorite genres as well. I'm also into strategy games like Starcraft 2, Civilization, Shogun 2, Advanced Wars and Fire Emblem even though I am terrible at them. I also like quirky games such as Katamari Damacy, Harvest Moon and obviously Animal Crossing ;).

I'm surprised you say that Pokemon isn't your type of game because it's grindy. MMORPGs are all about grinding, aren't they? That's one of the reasons why I've never been able to play any MMORPGs, except for Ragnarok Online when it was still in beta. Another reason I avoid MMORPGs is that they are huge time sinks. Did you jump into the FF14 bandwagon when it relaunched a few weeks ago?

Wow, first time I hear of SAO light novels being localized. ;P

Although I think game localization of niche titles has a higher barrier of entry than light novels. It takes more money to localize a game than a book. And if it has voice overs, then you get bogged down with the licensing for audio as well. That's one of the reasons why a lot of Japanese games released here aren't dual-audio.

The SnK game looks janky as hell and is probably just a cash-in on the popularity of the series, but I'm the sucker who buys that type of stuff orz. (when it drops to 20$ that is).

I never asked before, but what is your type of game? Except for the obvious choices of LoL and Pokemon.

Such an articulated response (゚д゚)!

I guess we approached the anime from two different point of views. I agree the story wasn't very good (especially the second half) but I liked the Ledo's character progression and interactions between him and everyone.

Seeing how his views on life and its purpose changes as he adapts to his new peaceful environment was nice. He starts out as a soldier bred to wage war, never question orders and unable to take independent action. You then see him struggle with having nothing to do and having to take decisions by himself. He's then brought back into his old ways when he thinks he meets his superior. And in the end, he decides to sacrifice himself to protect the people important to him (although Chambers ends up saving Ledo in the end).

I admit if one was watching this just based on story, then this would be a pretty average. This show's more about the characters and the story is used to advance the character progression.

I guess that for a *deep* story, you'd need to watch Valvrave and Free right (・ω<)?

I don't know if views to your own anime list count if you're logged in actually. And yeah, your friend has a pretty insane amount of page views (;・∀・)

By the way, how can you have not liked Suisei no Gargantia ;_;? It was a slice of life hidden within a mecha premise. Chambers by himself redeems the whole show. Never mind the predictable plot, it was probably on the same level of ridiculous as Gundam.

AND DAT ENDING THEME WAS SO GOOD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAup3EVCjyU

How did you ever 20K anime list views? Do you refresh the page every 5 minutes? (・ω<)
Copycatken Sep 16, 2013 4:07 PM
Yeah, I know *some* Japanese since I took courses in university. This is one of the reasons I prefer subs to dubs. I can say that watching anime is "studying" in order to improve my listening comprehension ;)

どうぶつの森は最高だよ!(I'll let you Google translate that)

On a related note to the bit of Japanese above, have you seen this Shingeki OP parody video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP0vScnKYdk
