Rock the cashbah.
Returned to the world of anime in 2015 after many years of absence, and becoming a seasonal watcher in the process. Currently it's one of my most rewarding hobbies.
My favourite genres are Postmodern/Mindfuck, Sci-fi, Proper Comedy™ and Slice of Life. But I am able to watch almost anything, except horror. I guess my preferences are a natural consequence of my constant urge to think, overthink and imagine things while overthinking and analyzing life, and of my desire to strive a quiet, peaceful and happy life full of laughter. (What? This is an "about me" spot XD)
Milestones:
Anime #1: Digimon Adventure (probably)
Anime #100: Gankutsuou (especially selected due to being based upon my favourite book)
Anime that made me like anime: Samurai Champloo
Anime that made me return to anime: Space Dandy
Anime that made me a seasonal viewer: The Rolling Girls
Target for 2018: Watch more classic anime, or oldies and hits.
Watched: Fate/stay night, MS Gundam Thunderbolt, Madoka Magica, Gankutsuou, Uchouten Kazoku, Shinsekai yori, Uchouten Kazoku S2
Currently watching: Re: Cutie Honey / Orphen
As someone easy to please, with strange tastes and even stranger critic sense, here's a little guide on how to interpret my ratings. Note that they're basically based on feelings and hunches rather than any "objective" quality criterium (that's how I enjoy anime!):
1 - Why does this exist?: Work that makes me question what happened on the artist's mind for deciding it was a good idea doing it and showing it to the world. This simply goes out of the rating system and enters the world of pure fascination, curiosity and philosophy. Why? How come?
2 - Insulting: Work that spits at your intellect and laughs at you for being such an idiot to actually have managed to endure it.
3 - Directly Bad: Work in that I haven't found a single redeeming quality or a true reason for considering it likeable.
4 - Failure: Work that tries to be good but doesn't succeed because of important issues in its production, or a pretentious work that wants to be seen as good but truthfully it knows it's bad.
5 - Free time filler: Work that is watchable. Period. Not as bad to have important issues that especially bother me, but neither as good as to be considered a worthwhile watch. The kind of thing you watch when you are bored and helps for distracting you a bit.
6 - Entertaining: Work that somehow catches my attention, is actually alright and fun to watch, but also perfectly forgettable once I finish it.
7 - Enjoyable: Work I sincerely enjoyed and had a good time while watching, in spite of being clearly flawed in some aspects that didn't really ruin the experience.
8 - Excellent: Work which was a very worthwhile watch, I loved and looked forward to, and could even consider to rewatch someday. However, it obviously wasn't the very best thing in the world.
9 - Classic: Work that fulfills this definition: "A classic is an outstanding example of a particular style; something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality; of the first or highest quality, class, or rank – something that exemplifies its class."
10 - Plus Ultra: Work that takes a step further and adds to the Classic the quality of art, beauty, postmodernism, plot or topic depth, symbolism, philosophy/science/spirituality or relevance outside of the manganime sector and marked me like no other could.
