Redline
add

Both movies are galactic racing series pumped with spectacular colorful animation, dirty weapon-filled demolition racing, and enough badass adrenaline to kill several large elephants. Both series have a comic style set in space, and the down-on-his-luck protagonist has to rebuild himself and his resolve to win the race and get the girl at sacrifice of his own body. The only real difference is that Redline had more funding and talent behind it, so there is more polish and less restraint.

Both series are fantascial and spontaneous comedies that make a point of flaunting otaku memes to get great laughs. These series use a similar style of over-the-top craziness and ridiculous gags throughout a large cast. Also, parallels can be drawn between the main female leads as spontaneous supernatural loli gods that always get their way. =^_^=

Watching the Inu Yasha series without watching the special would be a shame, since the special answers a lot of loose ends from the first few episodes of the series. You can watch in either order, although some associations with later characters might not be made until later (watch it twice, it's one of the best parts of the series!).
