I stumbled upon an ecchi clip on youtube, the clip in particular i have no memory of but it led me to an anime called Motto To Love-Ru. I watched the whole thing in like 2 days around october 2012. This was my first anime and before this I had no clue what anime even was. I had watched some during my childhood but i though all of them were just regular cartoons. Nontheless this was my first real time watching an anime. This in turn led to me listening to nigtcore a lot on youtube but it would take some time before I came back to watching anime or even learning what an anime was.
Sometime durring march i found myself listening to something called an AMV, this exposed me to the world of anime. After about a month of listening I'd started to understand what anime was which led me to search up some. I watched Fate/Stay Night and Maburaho in early April and close into that i got into The Toaru Franchise. Most importantly here is that I had learned what ecchi was. This would be the genre i searched for the most durring my early years of anime. After this is when I said to myself that I'm gonna complete Pokemon, 40 episodes later it was put on hold for another 7 years. I would take a break from anime only to return in July durring my summer break. Here i watched quite some ecchi shows, majorly the whole Zero no Tsukaima franchise. I would again take about a month break from anime after july, this is where I entered 9th Grade. After getting used to it is when I wanted to list what I had watched. I remember making a notepad document for this only to find MyAnimeList about 2 days later. And it was after this in October that I started to watch a lot more anime than I had previously done. I watched around 20 more anime durring October, November and December. Some major ones being Sword Art Online, Date A Live, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?. Most of these where ecchi of cource. Towards the last days of 2013 is when i started a club here on MyAnimeList and for the first time ever discussed anime with anyone.
I would continue watching shows for the most part of 2014 up untill the end of July. Some major things durring 2014 is Winter 2014 was the first anime season I watched something whilst it was airing. This beeing Chuuninbyou S2 and Sakura Trick. None of which i actually completed durring its airtime but I atleast started. The first Anime I actually followed for a whole season would be No Game No Life which I was obsessed with for the last weeks of 9th grade. I have a lot of nostalgia to all the shows I completed from this year and earlier, even though a LOT was ecchi. Some major shows i watched durring this time is the already mensioned, Neptune the Animation, Kyoukai no Kanata, Hentai Neko and Baka to Test. What made me tone down on my anime watching for the second half of 2014 was me entering High School. The only anime i would come to complete after entering would be Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!. I started a few shows like Madoka Magica and Amagi Brilliant Park but it would take some time before i completed them. Durring april of 2014 is when i found a game called osu!, I would play it a whole lot and got quite good at it, my main source of finding anime would be through playing anime openings in the game and then looking up where they came from.
I didn't watch any anime for the first half of 2015, I instead played osu! and basically did nothing else. I'd gotten really good at it and didn't really have any interest in watching any new shows. I think as i also had 2 girlfriends (not at the same time) durring this period that I'd spend more time away from the computer which in turn made for less time playing osu or watching anything anime related. Towards the end of June, about when a week had passed since my first summer break of Highschool had started is when i got back to Anime. What got me back was ecchi... and i still remember watching the first episode of Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai. thinking wow i haven't watched a new anime in so long. Fuck its been a while since then :(. Anyways I picked up quite some shows durring the summer and continued to watch even when school started again. Some big shows I watched here was Trinity Seven, Akame ga Kill (Which my highschool friend talked a lot about), Selector Infected WIXOSS. A lot of the shows here were shows which I'd played the opening to them in osu for over a year. Felt really good to actually watch the shows after playing their openings for so long. The only big thing to happen anime wise for me here is me following One Punch Man durring Fall 2015 and starting FMA Brotherhood. As prior to this I'd only ever completed shows which had around 12 and a few 24 episode shows, no joke the longest Anime I'd completed at this point was Sword Art Online.
This was a nice year for me. I had gotten a lot of friends and could discuss anime with quite some people. I finished some anime durring January, a major one beeing FMA: Brotherhood. Aaaand a lot of ecchi. I'd take a break from anime for a few months to come back to Bloodlad, Katanagatari and Overlord (after a certain individual over hypeing it ever since it started airing). I'd continue watching a lot of ecchi such as Seikon no Qwaser, Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou etc but would also start watching some popular shows I'd been avoiding only because the were mainstream like Tokyo Ghoul and Death Parade. Towards the end of 2016 I watched Mob Psycho 100 and Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season, these shows made me realize how much I really liked anime. After this is where i kind of toned down on my ecchi watching. Then durring early November I got a new girlfriend and I spent so much time with her that I just didn't watch any anime. This is funilly enough the year I completed the least ammount of anime since I started in 2012, A major reason beeing me just spending a lot more time with friends both online and IRL and also me starting to read a lot of manga.
The best year of the 2010's imo. I watched a few short meme shows durring the early part of 2017, it wasn't that much since we were moving away from Tenhult into central Jönköping at the end of february. My last anime completed in Tenhult would be Astarotte no Omocha! (A really weird show I still enjoy despite it beeing ehh questionable). I had a hard time getting back into anime after moving as I spent a lot of time with people IRL as i was active in like 8 different friend groups and just didn't have time. The first show i did manage to watch after moving would be Gabriel DropOut. After that i would progressively start watching more and more. The ammount of anime I watched would explode in May as highschool was closing in on its end. I watched a lot of shows I had started over the years here and found Mushishi which to this date still is my favorite show of all time (As of August 2020). This is also where I'd gotten curious to how much of the popular and mainstream shows I had actually seen, which turned out to be not a lot as most shows i had seen was short shounen shows or ecchi harem. So I started trying to watch more mainstream shows to just be able to discuss them. As the last days of highschool where closing in I felt like i had actually watched A LOT. My 2 last anime of highschool would be Boku no Hero Academia and Noragami. Durring the summer I continued to watch a lot of shows, both things that was mainstream, shows I started years ago and things I just had wanted to watch since forever. Some big shows here is Love Live, Magi, Erased and Sword Art Online II. Then when I entered Uni i realized that spending 6 hours on anime a day wasn't viable. I did however watch some shows, a major one beeing Made in Abyss as it was airing durring my first month of uni. After getting more used to Uni I would start watching some more between cources. I watched some major shows here such as Kill la Kill, Shokugeki no Souma and Nanatsu no Taizai. Compared to earlier years I'd watched waay more anime durring 2017. The average before beeing around 30 shows a year whilst 2017 I'd completed almost 90. This was a lot for me back then and I felt like I'd seen so much anime up to this point, I even started bragging a bit about how much I'd seen toward the end of the year. Overall a good year, stressful towards the start of Uni but still, a really good year.
At the start of the year before starting my first Uni maths cources is where I felt like I HAVE to watch the biggest most popular shows if I'm gonna be allowed to brag about my anime watching. I watched stuff like Death Note, Code Geass, Steins;Gate, Mirai Nikki, Toradora and as soon as the maths cources started I almost completely stopped watching anime for a month. This was up untill the exam period where I picked up a lot of short shows such as Isekai wa Smartphone and Blend S. After 4 years of trashtalking Naruto for no reason I eventually watched the first few episodes and to my surprise I liked it. I would continue watching shows until about mid April where my relationship with my gf would worsen and eventually break up. This just completely took away my urge to watch anime, I was really down and didn't really know what I wanted to do. I completely stopped bragging about anime as it didn't feel important and I wanted to grew away from it as to be honest it is childish to brag about anime. Luckily this is where I was introduced to 3 big things. One beeing a really active friend group in Jönköping I would spend a Lot of time with durring the summer. Second beeing the local manga club where I actually had a lot of fun with and felt like I could talk a lot about manga and anime. And last but not least an online friend group majorly beeing people I'd known from Göteborg that played osu. As my mood improved I would again get into watching Anime, now with less focus on just completing for completion sake but just to watch anime. The first one beeing Sakamoto Desu ga?. I continued watching quite a lot and as a big goal would be to finish Naruto. I managed to do so just before me and my osu friends went to the Anime Convention Närcon where I had a lot of fun. The last month of the summer is where i started watching a lot more anime from the fear of not having the time when the 2nd year of Uni would start. Shows such as Higurashi and Psycho-Pass. When the 2nd year eventually started i realized that I didn't need to go so offten as I lived quite some distance away from school. I would stay home watching Anime instead of going, durring my first cources of the 2nd year I'd play a lot of Maplestory 2 and watch some big shows such as HxH 2011, Cowboy Bebop and Both the 2nd and 3rd season of Boku no Hero Academia. When the exam period came i studied like crazy and actually got really good grades. Then came my practical cource where I had to attend all days except for the weekends. Here i realized how many gems i had missed and felt like I have to start watching a lot more if I'm ever going to have seen everything I want to see. This escalated as soon as the practical cource was over and I'd watch around 6-7 episodes daily whilst studying my uni cources. Then when my christmas break started I remember saying to my friend whilst in a call on discord: "I'm gonna eat, breath and shit anime". I really tried to watch 20 episodes a day the last days of 2018, I remember getting headaches from focusing so much on anime. Some other fun things from this year was me implementing a lowkey rule on myself to not watch/complete things from the current year. (a rule which i would to an extent uphold but always break midway throughout the year). Toward the end days of 2018 i completed shows such as Fairy Tail, Log Horizon, Goblin Slayer and Black Butler.
What can I say about this year. I averaged 1 Anime a day throughout the whole year, I'd never watched this much anime before. I was exposed to so many new genres I'd been avoiding before, a major one beeing shoujo which I'd just been avoiding thinking it wasn't for me. I also watched a lot of trash though found a lot of series I really enjoyed which I don't think I'd ever start on my own. The major reasons to all of this beeing me making lists of anime where I just went through the list watching one anime at a time untill I made a new list. A big goal throughout the year would be to have completed all 1 Cour series in the top 1000 most popular here on MAL, i did get close but stopped this around November. I went through a lot of different lists durring the year whilst i was studying my first physics cources in Uni. The biggest list i started and almost completed would be a list divided into parts where each part had 1cour anime that only aired durring a year. For example only anime from 2005 then when im done with that I start the list of only anime from 2006 and onward which if I reached 2018 would be all the 1cour in top 1000 most popular, I in that list reached the middle of the 2016 list untill i gave up as anime started feeling really forced. Other than this it was just a really big year of anime for me, don't think I'll ever complete that much anime in a year ever again. With that said this is the year I went from having watched a lot of anime to having watched a fuckton of anime. Some major series I got into durring this year are Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basket, Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken, Soul Eater, Shingeki no Bahamut, Berserk, Non Non Biyori, Aria the Animation, Kino no Tabi, Arakawa Under the Bridge and many more. Towards the end of the year is where i watched quite some ecchi harem shows that I had not seen before and realized how trash most of them are and I started realizeing that maybe my old favorite shows from 2013 might not be the best shows. Overall I felt like I had checked of a fuckton of the shows I'd wanted to see. Towards mid November where my physics cources was over and my more advanced maths cources had started was when I stopped with the lists and just watched what I wanted, this beeing where i ploughed through part 3 to 5 of the JoJo anime, Kimetsu no Yaiba and then got into some shows I wanted to see that was in the list but I never got to. At the end i realized i was close to have seen 365 anime durring 2019 so i made my last list of the 2010's which contained stuff I wanted to watch that would make me reach 365 completed. I generally stayed away from anime from 2019 durring this year but I'd still seen some throughout the year. My last anime of the 2010's would end up beeing Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld. Overall the biggest accomplishment durring this year was completing Naruto: Shippudden durring the summer, got so into it that i watched almost 30 episodes a sitting at 2 different occasions. Towards the end of 2019 is when I wrote 10 goals for 2020 which all are anime related in which we will have to wait and see if I will complete, fail or give up entirely (all in all around 3000 episodes of anime to complete the 10 goals).
