Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, although not perfect, is probably the funniest and happiest anime I've seen in a while. The art sets the tone for the show, as it's not too showy nor is it too plain. The show's OP takes the cake for being my jam for this summer season, since whenever it comes on all I do is dance even though I can't dance and lip-sync even though I don't know Japanese. adorable and stupid. As for the story, it's not really a story, more of a documentation of the little things in the character's life. There's no one goal, but that's cool with me, as long as it's enjoyable in all of it's nonsense. Overall, I really liked this series, and I'll be sure to read the manga just cuz i want more. I really recommend this to anyone who's looking for a good time.
But I have to say, at the last episode, I became so frustrated that I threw my phone and screamed "NOOOOZAAAAAKKIIIIII" because I am so fed up with his shit obliviousness like no. I don't give a shit bout your love for fireworks. Fall in love with Chiyo already! GOD! AKJGDYIHBJKHDIAHDU!

I read the manga's arc of this story before this anime aired, so I'll try by best to grade the anime without making many comparisons. The art wasn't that great, and the actions scenes I looked forward to didn't exactly hit my expectations, but it was alright. I loved both the OP and the ED, especially the latter, but there was one specific track that played during the show's action scenes I couldn't stand. The characters are pretty good for what they have in a 10-episode anime, but I wish they were more explored so I could sympathize with them

more. The story was boring at first, but it got better near the end, and that's all that counts. Overall, if you'd like to watch this anime, I'd tell you to watch it, but I wouldn't immediately call upon it if someone asked for a recommendation.

WARNING! NOT SPOILER-FREE AND CURSING ISN'T PROHIBITED!
I don’t know if I’m ready to talk about this anime or not yet…
Plot: The plot is intriguing enough, with troubled teens dying, ending up in an afterlife, and fighting as rebels against God for giving them such shitty lives. However, there is one evident, obvious problem. Let’s say it together, shall we?
This anime was waaay too short.
Angel Beats! is trying to accomplish a story worthy of 25 episodes in 13, and it’s, for lack of a better word, annoying and frustrating. Because it’s a good show. The comedy is surprisingly well executed.

The characters are fun to watch. But there’re so many questions left unanswered. What about the other characters’ backstories? What about that once-mentioned love triangle…after I finished the series I wasn't satisfied. And though the manga offered more, I’m just not seeing it. And NO, a 2nd season isn't needed, a remake with more episodes would be better.
However, other than the obvious fact this story had so much filler due to lack of enough episodes, it was plenty enjoyable. It also holds its place as the first anime I’ve cried in. And it takes a lot to make me cry. I cried during Otonashi’s death. When Yui disappeared. The ending. Oh God, the ending...moving on.
Characters: I don’t know about you, but I feel like the three main characters (Otonashi, Yuri and Kanade, AKA Angel) weren’t very original. Doesn’t mean that they were bad, because they weren’t. It’s just they weren’t original. Yuri kind of reminds me of infamous Haruhi Suzumiya, Otonashi was vaguely like Kyon and Kanade was, at the beginning of the show, like Rei Ayanami. BUT they were fairly fun and good characters. When the show really shines, though, is when supporting characters, ex. Iwasawa & Yui, are given spotlight. I loved the learning about the backstories of each of the characters that were given them, but i also kinda hated it since it made me depressed. Probably the reason I want more material for this show is ‘cause I want to see other backstories, and I think that would make the show spectacular.
I was sort of confused about the relationship between Yuri and Otonashi, and I was wondering if this was supposed to be a love triangle or not, but it was the right choice to pair him with Kanade because I found both these characters adorable. And even though the love between them was pretty sudden (again, I wanted more episodes so this could be explored more) I’m just happy they ended up together. My favorite characters were Otonashi (his determination to save people and his story with his sister are my main reasons), Kanade (she’s adorable but effective) and Hinata (he’s ridiculous). The character that didn’t leave much of an impression was, and I’ll probably get hate for this, Yuri. I don’t feel like she developed enough for me to like her, and though her life sucked, I found myself not sympathizing with her as I was with others.
The animation was great. I thought the singing scenes were done well, and the art really matched the tone of the show, as it funny and sad at the same time.
Sound: My favorite part of this soundtrack was the songs in-show, like the song that played during Yui’s disappearance “Ichiban no Takaramono” and Iwasawa’s song “My Song”, as examples. They made more of an impact as they played in the background of some of my favorite moments in the show, giving me extra goosebumps, and I happen to be listening to them right now. Hehe. :) The opening song, “My Soul, Your Beats!” didn’t seem like much at first, but it grew on me a bit, though I doubt I'll be listening to it non stop, and as for the ending I usually skipped over it.
As a short recap, most of my issues with Angel Beats! was it’s length and, although some parts confused me and the last episode left me unsatisfied, I enjoyed Angel Beats! and I obviously recommend it.
OVERALL ANALYSIS:
Characters: 7/10 rating
Plot: 7/10. If only it was longer...
Animation: 8/10
Soundtrack: 8/10
Adding together my own personal enjoyment...
TOTAL ANIME RATING: 8/10
RECOMMENDATION SCALE: 4.5/5

NOT SPOILER FREE and CURSING ISN'T PROHIBITED!
What in the world…
So right now I’ll start with the notion that 8/13 of the boys fall in love with Ema, the main character of the series.
And what a freaking shitty character--
Like man, I don’t see anything special about this chick at all! She has no common sense, and doesn’t even think it possible her brothers would fall in love with her because they’re “family”. All she does is act like a doormat to the series, just letting stuff around her happen without doing

anything to stop conflict or doing anything useful for that matter. She literally has no character and I feel like she gets fought over for no reason. And the trigger to being loved by the brothers--an adorable sweet smile or some lame stuff like that. That’s it! Apparently 8 hot guys can all fall in love with you because of your smile. And because she envies you because of your dreams and shit. Man, a hundred men would want me if I ever left my house and did that everyday. Anyways. The only thing interesting about her is that she likes to play Zombie Hazard video games.
Anyway, as for the boys, they were what kept the “story” going. If they weren’t who they were I probably would’ve dropped the series after about 2-3 episodes. Here are my personal favorites:
1.Yuusuke- he’s absolutely adorable and tsundere, and he liked Ema first (they’re in the same class). So back off everyone, Yuusuke was the original. One of his best moments: even though he doesn’t get good grades, he takes extra days in school so he can study to get ready for an exam to get into the same high school as Ema. Not much to love him for, but I have a soft spot for him. I liked what he did. Even though Ema doesn’t deserve it in the least.
2. Louis- Usually I don’t like this character, but Louis is an exception. I like him a lot. He’s adopted, so maybe it’s that he’s just not as annoying as the other brothers can be. He doesn’t fall in love with Ema either, instead he partners up with her pet squirrel (did I mention the squirrel?) and they decide to protect her. Once again, the bitch deserves none of this protection, but still, I liked how he cared.
3.Subaru-Subaru’s probably the most normal-looking one out of the brothers. And the reason I like him is simple: he’s the most honest and decent to Ema. Once he accidentally insults her, he will always apologize, more than once, which is something I’d probably do. He asks her consent on things, and though she doesn’t give much of an answer, he still hugs her and appreciates her all the same. Once again: BITCH DESERVES NOTHING. But Subaru was nice. (Plus he was voiced by Daisuke Ono *fangirl scream*.)
So in completion of my character analysis: only about 3-4 characters really stood out to me, and that’s not really good, considering there are about 15 characters that are focused on throughout the show. I absolutely DESPISED the main character, and I’m honestly holding back all my hate for her so I can diminish all this hatred in my black soul. And don’t even get me started on the squirrel.
As for a plot analysis, I can’t really do that since there wasn’t really a plot at all. It just follows Ema's life with her new brothers, and it gets really boring at times. Except when Fuuto tries to seduce her and when Tsubaki and Natsume kiss her (I actually sorta liked Natsume but I didn’t pair him with Ema) and Azusa constantly expresses his love for her and Juli the Squirrel protects her; those parts were annoying. Whenever I saw my favorite characters, tho, I was entertained. I’m admitting it. I was entertained.
Animation: It was very pretty, I liked the style. But all the distinguishing features were all over the place, I mean they were nice, but the hairstyles and clothes and eyes just stuck out and I’d get headaches. Especially Fuuto’s mouth. For some reason it’s always like :3 even when nothing’s happening. And everyone’s helplessly handsome. THAT’S NOT REAL LIFE, MY FRIENDS!!!
The soundtrack: there was a piece during the show’s dramatic times with a piano that I liked and always recognized. It was subtle, but nice. The opening “BELOVEDxSURVIVAL” was pretty catchy and I kept singing it after each episode although I had no idea what was being said. But it wasn’t outstanding. And the ending “14 to 1” was cute and odd but fun to watch, with all the boys singing a song about their sister. Although I don’t believed Ema deserves to have a song dedicated to her, at least it was a mediocre song. I don’t really think they’ll be going on my personal favorite playlist anytime soon.
