Excellent NHK review! I thought the exact same things as you when I finished it!

Well like with most things the outlined story in MALs description of Angel Beats hits the nail on the head, of course more is revealed but really needs to be seen and not spoiled.

For characters you have a very...broad selection. Again I see this is the perfect starter anime. You have a character of every class and style. The strong willed, the unknown, the strong, the brave etc. Some people might see this as boring but again I think that is this shows strength. It shows you what anime can do with the subject matter and different characters.

I hope you like Shigurui and just to add: I would love to know your opinion over a specific episode of an anime in which the episodes are not really interconnected - meaning it is basically a compilation. The anime is "Robot Carnival." and the episode is 4th called "Presence." I know this is kind of weird, but I think that in regards to our talk about sadness/execution/old animes being better. I won't recommend the entire 9 episode anime - short as it is because I have watched 4 episodes, some are really good - one is fine - and I haven't seen the rest.

Shippuden for me kind of messed up big time for me after the battle between Pain and Naruto. For two reasons: the power standard disappeared. Sasuke is supposed to be powerful but seemingly he isn't able to touch Raikage. Raikage is shown to have brute strength and speed that he is able to block Naruto in his 'released' state but as we recall Tsunade is stronger than the Raikage. The previous kage's powers seems out of contrast recalling the power of the 1st hokage and 2nd. Hanzou of the Salamander is defeated in a pathetic manner - suicide - many episodes became theme oriented 'friendship' and what not. 2nd thing... the pacing. The war wasn't paced well in my opinion. Ah well, I haven't really seen Shippuden since like more than a year...

The plot elements in Shigatsu are debatable as they are in Accel World - for me Haru was a dis-likable char but he wasn't poorly made - same way, the mother element was questionable but there was a justification. At least it made sense for me.

And YES I also first try to see what the series is trying to give - what is ITS intention. Which is where Shigurui is good and SAO for me messed up.

Yup - I agree with the idea - there was a market developing, people were more open to genres. I do hope they continue Claymore - though out of context. Deadman Wonderland was forgotten but ah well... I WISH Claymore is completed :'(
