In a world where an entity judges your mental condition, there ought to be a couple of problems. Psycho-Pass 2 investigates one in particular, how can you judge a group of individuals when you are the same type of group yourself? If you brand them negatively, doesn't that just mirror yourself?
Story - 6/10
The MWPSB are working on a case different from anyone they've encountered before. In fact it is a series of crimes all vandalized with the letters "WC?" or as we later learn not so
...
far into the series, "What color?". The mystery intensifies as the perpetrators are all connected by one thing - Kamui. They mutter his name under their breath and attribute their crimes under his name. But who is Kamui? What does "What color" mean? Who are they asking it to? All questions are (kind of) resolved.
Story wise, not bad, but not strong either. The psycho-pass world is very interesting, and I felt that they didn't do it justice as well as they did in the first series. Of course, usually sequels are no match for the original, but this took that difference to a whole other level. The execution of this plot was really....confusing. I personally was not able to understand everything that was going on, and had to look up summaries online after each episode. Many can consider this as only a matter of personal comprehension, but talking to other fans of the series drew many of the same conclusions. Perhaps someone who is quick to understand will probably enjoy the plot itself a lot better than I did.
Art 8/10
As always, the art in Psycho-Pass 2 was near flawless. Key word "near". There were times (especially in the last episodes) where the animators obviously got a little lazy. But it didn't affect my watching of the show. I also noticed that the color of blood (of course there was going to be a vast amount of blood in this anime, what did you expect?) was changed in some scenes to make it seem less gory, which kind of did the trick. I'm not super sure on why some shows do this in general (to me, knowing the blood is not real is enough to make me not feel super queasy), but this minor change is understandable.
Honestly, the art was probably the best part of this show.
Sound 7/10
Not going to go super deep into this, but sound in general was fine. The background music wasn't really distinguishable but I could sit through it. The opening was definitely something of my tastes (Ling Tosite Sigure always maintaining that great vibe) and the closing was, dare I say, better than those of Psycho-Pass? Not too much to say about sound this time.
Character 6/10
Akane showed the most potential to show character development, and true she did develop some.
I liked how she used Kougami in her head to work out some of the cases (yes, I am a Kougami fangirl, I can't help it), but other than that, her personality was very flat, and only in the end did she show sparks of emotion. The fact that I can't even remember some of her appearances in episodes should say enough about my feelings as of this series towards Akane (note that I did really like her in PP1)
Togane. Oh, Togane. Togane is a new member of the group, and he is an enforcer. I really, really liked his backstory, but as a character himself, he remained pretty stoic until the end ( wow, I'm sensing a pattern here!). Although, he always did have an air of mystery around him that added to the suspense of the show, but other than that, I didn't see a purpose of him being there. I think the story could have flowed a little bit smoother if they got rid of his ultimate "goal", but not a major dent in the plot over all.
As for Kamui himself, I'm afraid I can't do a detailed character review without spoiling too much. Yes, you do get to see Kamui, but that is where my information stops. I actually think he is pretty interesting and an amazing plot device. Seems to be the only character that I was content with.
For the others, I'll summarize a bit. A little upset that Gino and Shion did not get a larger role in the series. I also did not like Shimotsuki, the new inspector we met at the end of PP1, but I think that was the point of her character. I did like Hinakawa and Saiga, although for Saiga I was a little confused on what exactly he was doing the entire time. But a little internet researching aided me.
Enjoyment 5/10
I really, really hate to say it, but I did not enjoy PP2 as much as I thought I would. I was easily bored through each episode, and I never became excited to see a new episode. It was like I was forcing myself to watch it.
*Another thing: Kougami*
If you are expecting to see Kougami in this series, don't bother. Sorry to break it to you, but honey, he doesn't come. I know, I know, I was sad too.
Overall 6/10
If you are expecting PP2 to be just like the first, you will be disappointed. But, I do recommend you still watch it, but just for the sake of saying you watched it. Not a bad show, but wasn't up to the standard I wanted it to be.
Thanks for taking the time for reading this review!

If you look at the various 2013 anime that sparked your interest, or made you watch it through the end, Shin Sekai Yori probably wasn't on that list. But it definitely deserved to be. I for sure, didn't even hear of it until this year, and I wish I could have enjoyed it while it was airing
The story surrounds our main female protagonist, Saki, and her adventures in a sort of utopia established after the creation of humans with psychic powers. So far, the story doesn't seem all too great. We've heard of dystopian or utopian story lines before, and psychic powers is nothing ... Nov 5, 2014
After re-watching this show multiple times, I think it's prime time for a review. :3
-Story- 8/10 Haikyuu has a pretty solid story-line, but dare I say I got a tad bored nearing the end of the show? Probably because I am not a fan of slow, and dragged out episodes, and each one was only the length of half of a game. I think it was supposed to bring more suspense, but I just wanted to see who would win the matches, to be completely honest. Overall, a pretty inspiring story of fallen heroes and their determination to come to the top! The plot wasn't exactly deep ... |
