Ratings are intended mostly to reflect a normal distribution about 5. 5 means Average, which in my mind is some unspecified combination of 'enjoyed about as much as not' and 'this is what I should expect on average when I watch an unknown anime'. 10 is meant to represent my idea of 'best anime ever' and 1 'worst anime ever'. Add two to all of my scores before comparing it to your own ratings. It's a pretty terrible way of correcting for my difference in scoring philosophy but it's easy enough to do.
