My favorites are 3-gatsu no lion and Monogatari, aka I am a shaft fanboy. And also the Girls' Last Tour manga.

A short and bittersweet 47 chapters of heartrending, yet blissful cgdct post-apocalyptic adventure through an otherworldly beautiful slumbering cityscape at the end of a forgotten humanity, led by the greatest dynamic duo in slice-of-life history. Their companionship is ineffable and just so endearing to behold. Wrap yourself in a cozy blanket for a night, perhaps with a box of tissues, and let yourself be immersed in this breathtaking world, you won't regret it. I love this manga so much.

Hi, bestie who I've shared this with. So, every time I send my MAL to someone, my ~4.7 average inevitably leads them to tell me I rate quite harshly, and I explain that to accurately compare our lists, we should add two to all of my scores. But that's not a real explanation, so I've figured that I should lay bare my thoughts here. I promise that I don't hate anime; I like it a lot. But yeah, I guess I do rate somewhat mercilessly. And I attribute this to a few things:
1. I've watched a lot of unambiguously terrible schlock. Nowadays I'm pickier about what I devote time to, but when I first started watching anime I gorged anything like it was a buffet: the Eromanga Sensei-s, the SAO clones, a lot of egregious self-insert harem, and so on and so forth. However, I've learned over time that I deserve to keep my sanity and no longer aimlessly consume whatever happens to be on my plate. Still, that hellish period of gluttony still weighs on my average heavily.
2. Most things fail to resonate with me. The reasoning for this varies, but if I were to put it in terms of a general case, I'd say that an anime or manga will not resonate if I think its fundamental message is disagreeable, unsubstantiated, trite, ambiguous, plain nonexistent, or trumped by major flaws. Usually, I am not able to empathize much with its characters either. I'm not exactly sure why a majority of stuff never reaches me. But I'd love to talk about it, because it seems like a salient, yet subtle point of contention whenever I've talked to people about anime.
3. I guess this is a corollary of #2. If most things fail to resonate with me, then it must follow that few things do. As a rule of thumb, anything I give a 7 or above has in one way or another reached my innermost emotions and instincts, making it a rare and valuable treasure. (By this metric, just 20% of the shows I've watched have been significant to me.)
It's important to me that I recognize those few and far between gems that are most dear to me and a cut above the rest. These monuments should be championed in a realm all their own, so I've sculpted my list according to this belief. What this means practically is that I give myself ample room on the grading scale to delineate the good stuff; 7's are important personal investments and quite emotionally compelling, 8's usually possess some stylistic or narrative flair which elevates the viewing experience as a whole, and 9's have contributed significant value or change in the trajectory of my life. A 10 may well be immortal or life-defining, I don't know yet.
Accounting for the description I've prescribed to it, a 7 might seem kind of low. But that's just how I do things. And that's why my average is pretty low.
Note that many entries in my list are outdated in the first place, and I think my average score would actually lower if I were to painstakingly adjust everything. But yeah. I hope this longwinded ramble provides good insight into how my head works.
The graph might not corroborate this, but I've been trying lately not to subject myself to anime that I know I'm not even going to enjoy, which is an improvement in a long-held bad viewing habit of mine. These days I'd rather not force myself to wade through all the seasonal sewer sludge. There are greater discoveries out there to be made. I want to experience all the grand, enchanting stories just waiting for me to stumble by, and I want to connect deeply with the people who live within them; I believe there is no better reason to watch.
Hi Santa! Thanks for the gift, had a great time watching Highschool Boys. The first episode was 10/10 for me, haven't laughed as much with 1 episode in a while. Unfortunately later episodes didn't make me laugh nearly as much but were still definitely enjoyable and every scene with Yassan was gold.
I am in the middle of 3-gatsu no Lion and enjoying it so far. After I finish watching it I'll probably start watching Bakemonogatari cause it's a series I was planning to watch for the longest time and I guess you are the push I needed to finally get around to it.
