What do you get when you combine a typical harem-romance anime like the first season with a heavy dose of Fate?Zero vibes? Something that completely betrayed my expectations after the first season.
Plot:
After the... surprising ending of the first season, I didn't even know what to expect from a continuation. I have to give credit to the creators for managing to overturn such an ending in a way that didn't feel like an ex-machina.
Though, I have to say that there were some parts that were't fully explained. Still, those were only minor inconveniences, and they don't take away from the enjoyment. The most important one is
...
explained in the last episode.
Character:
This is the part where this season is fundamentally different from the first one. While S1 did have some good moments, they weren't that special or unique, and the main theme was still environmentalism. This season focuses a lot more on the main character's struggle with depression (which S1 didn't even touch on) and the consequences of his rash decisions, as well as finding his own way of life, through his interactions with others.
His relationship with Kagari has a lot of dedicated screen-time, but I won't spoil anything. Go watch it.
Overall, I give this anime a personal 9/11, and a recommendation to watch it if you enjoy both romance and a tough path for the protagonist.
Also, new OTP. Really reminded me of NGNL Zero.

"This is not a story about Masters or Servants, but about wishes"
If you came here looking for a new Fate/Zero... well, you won't find it. However, is this a bad anime? Definitely not.
If you are new to the Fate franchise, you should know that Fate/Apocrypha doesn't have any connection to the rest of the franchise, but you should watch the rest first, as you will understand some heroes better. And, while I plan do do so in the future, I haven't read the LN, so I won't be using that as a reference.
STORY:
While I can't say any more than the synopsis without getting into
...
spoilers, I think that the story is very well written. At times it feels a bit rushed (probably due to the adaptation problems), but all of the important and emotional moments are well executed.
BUT, if you don't know some parts of the Fate lore, you will be a bit confused at the ending, as some major things aren't at all explained. So, if you only watched the anime series so far and haven't read from the Type-moon wikia... I feel a bit sorry for you.
CHARACTERS:
The main complaint I see from all the haters is that there are too many characters, and they aren't developed. Well, it is true that, this time, we have no Kiritsugu. However, the overall cast of characters has never been so good (except Spartacus).
Sure, we only get a bit of each Hero's backstory, but remember that in Fate/Zero we got nothing for any of the less important Heroes, and you never see anyone complaining about that.
And, at least in my opinion, this is also the most likable overall cast. YES, it isn't all spelled out for you, but if you stop for even five seconds to think about the Hero's characters and motivations, you will discover a lot more about them.
ART:
Well, this is A-1 pictures, so the animation is far from the Ufotable standards. In the first half, all the fights sort of lacked the impact, but it picks up in the second part.
SOUND:
When you have Egoist and LiSA doing your openings, you know you're in for something good. The rest of the ST is also great.
ENJOYMENT AND OVERALL SCORE
While Fate/Apocrypha doesn't have as much of the usual Fate tragedy (it still has some of it, be calm), it was still an awesome series, and I give it a:
Best Saber/11 ( 9/11 ), and a recommendation to watch it

I usually don't write reviews, but I feel that this anime gets a lot of undeserved hate, for not being something that it doesn't need to be in the first place. /*contains spoilers from DR 2 */
Story and Plot:
In chronological order, this is the first part of of the whole series. It follows the cast of DR 2 in their last happy months and it shows the event of the Tragedy. I think this is a part that many people don't like, as some details of it contradict what was said in the games about it. However, in my opinion, this is actually better
...
than what it was supposed to be.
For example, in the games, they just say that Junko was Ultimate Despair, and that's it. I just couldn't fully think that just one person was able to end the world and, even more importantly, corrupt a whole class of Ultimates and Izuru Kamukura, the Ultimate Hope. This way, even if it's different, it makes sense and, in a way, is much better ( I will talk about that later ).
Art and Sound:
I put those two together because I really don't know what to say about either. In particular, I enjoyed every moment of Izuru; he just has some sort of casual badassery, and I also liked his internal questioning of what he should do.
Now, about the soundtrack, it is ok in general. What I really want to talk about is the ending theme of the song. At the beginning, I just enjoyed it normally but, after THE death at the end of ep 10, the ending just pushed the acceleration of the feels truck to the max.
Characters:
I can't talk too much about the characters without getting into spoilers, but I can say that I really enjoyed all of them. We find out a bit of new stuff about Junko and there's also another major new character from class 77.
Of course, Junko is as brilliant and hopeless as always, earning a well-deserved nr.1 spot on my "top villains of all-time" list.
Enjoyment:
I think that by this point it is clear that I love this anime, but there is one more very important thing about it that I haven't said.
First of all, this part of the series doesn't have any major plot twists, and what this story is about has been spoken from the beginning of it.
So, instead of having the usual tone of the series, this anime emphasizes on the slow coming of the tragedy. Seeing the members of class 77 playing around brings me both a smile and a tear, thinking of what is to come.
Also, what I enjoyed the most is the way that everyone's good intentions are manipulated and used against them. In several cases, if the characters didn't care about each other and just remained still, Junko's plan would have failed (in general, she always allows her victims a way to escape). However, exactly because they care and act, trying to bring happiness to themselves and others, the characters end up being manipulated by Junko and they fall.
Overall, while I understand that some people might not enjoy this series, I personally think it's one of the best parts of the franchise and give it a personal "Why won't the tears stop"/11 ( 11/11 )

I never thought I would write a review, but here I am. I am writing this because too few people seem to get what this series is about.
First of all, I have to say that if you only like action-comedy shounens, this is not a series for you. If you want just a lot of fight scenes and plot twists, watch something else.
Now, let me explain why I liked Juuni Taisen.
Characters:
Well, all the characters die in the expected order, and there aren't any major plot twists. In each episode, we get some backstory, a bit of fighting (I will talk about that later) and usually
...
a death. However, I can say that the backstories are well written. Not even one of them tries to be too tragic, and the characters vary from pacifists to thieves and psychopaths. However, most of them contain some tragedy, and some of them really touched my heart. I even cried once, which I really didn't expect to happen when I was watching this series.
Action:
The action isn't really a focal part of this show, but the animation is really well done. However, I was more impressed by a thing you don't really see anywhere else. In general, there are two types of fights: the classic direct power clash and the more indirect fights in which the opponents try to analyze the opponent's unique power ( the activation conditions, limits and weaknesses) and try to find a smart way to win. Juuni Taisen looks at first like it belongs to the second class, but it has a surprising element of realism added to the battles: almost all of the plans DON'T work. And they end up failing for some really simple reasons that the characters just overlooked.
For some, it may sound anti-climactic, but I thought it was awesome how this anime showed just how quickly a life can end in battle.
Soundtrack:
Well, I don't really know much about music, but I enjoyed the op, and the rest of the music was pretty good. Not one of the best, but good.
Negative points:
I liked this anime from the beginning and around episode 10 I was thinking I might just give it a 10/11 (11 being the masterpieces). However, the last episode was just unsatisfying. Most of the people who are reading this are probably going to ignore my advice, but I am going to say it anyway: DON'T watch the last episode. Just pretend ep 11 is the conclusion. That is going to be much better. Or, at least, stop at the half point and imagine yourself what the winner asked for. I am going to say this again: DON'T watch the last episode till the end. I mean, I get what the point of the last episode was supposed to be, but there is a huge difference between understanding what you were supposed to feel, and actually feeling it.
Overall, I give this anime a personal 9/11 and a recommendation to watch it only if you think you will enjoy it in the way that I described it.
You can watch it legally for free on Crunchyroll.
