Need to rewatch: FLCL, Spirited Away, Madoka Magica, Ping Pong the Animation, The Tatami Galaxy, Bakemonogatari, Steins;Gate, Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Baccano!
After reflection I've bumped it to a six. I could even see myself bumping it to a 7 but that won't happen today. Part of the 5 was the just finishing distaste.
I really don't like the ending for the Part. After a certain point near the end, the entire thing falls apart for me, which is like 10 chapters of stuff I don't like. It sours how I feel about Johnny, not cause he does anything controversial at the end, but his character just doesn't stick the landing for me. Same for the Part, in a bunch of areas. It had a good amount of stuff that could have been or was already cool, but doesn't stick the landing with them.
It has a cool villain but I think he also succumbs the same issue in that he doesn't stick the landing for me, more could have been done with Valentine. Stand designs weren't really good, powers were great though.
Despite these grievances it is 100% the most consistently well written part IMO, much less messy then everything before it. Stone Ocean may have the highest highs of the franchise, but Steel Ball Run is less of a mess. The characters are good, the fights are very good, the story is engaging, its got a lot going for it. Johnny and Gyro are the best Jobro pair, not cause they're the best characters in those categories, but because they have great chemistry together and really have a genuinely strong bond, which is great. They're not the only cool characters in this Part either.
So yeah, I'd probably love this Part if it managed to connect with me at the end, but that didn't really work out.
It definitely was, even if a couple episodes of Animation and more of Natural would also be up there for me! Visual upgrade was very welcome too, and I already liked the overall aesthetic. I get you on the supernatural episodes, they didn't affect my enjoyment too much but would've been better if they'd been more tied into the story or just less prevalent. And ahh, the insert songs... I really loved how they utilized them, and those last few were simply the best. Great choice on favourites too, though I honestly loved all of the mains (teachers included). ;)
Avvenire's a sweet send-off to the series, though it might not have too much to add. Hope you enjoy it! I also meant to rewatch the entire series soon after finishing it, but just got into too many other things haha. So good luck on getting through that list of yours too.
Yeah, I've been slowly going through Gintama! Probably wan't catch up for the final cour, but it gives me something to aim for lol. It's indeed been very up-and-down, but the characters could already get me through anything. And the comedy and rare drama is still pretty good when it does land.
I see you finished Origination, with a good score :eyes:
So, uh, how'd you like the journey as a whole? Favourite characters and moments and all that jazz. Since those final episodes starting from a certain point were just something magical imo.
Heavy Weather is actually the fight I don't like! For two reasons; mainly because the concept behind the powers is bullshit. I mean plenty of Jojo powers are bullshit but they at least give believable explanations, this fight uses the concept of subliminal effects to explain it yet there is no actual evidence that subliminal messages do anything (the fight even cites a study that was later revealed to have its data made up by the guy behind it).
The other reason is just that everyone turning into snails is too gross for me and I don't like it. The fight does have some cool aspects though, namely revolving on Weather Report's attempts to kill Pucci.
Yeah, Annasui is fucking terrible, and he never gets better. I think this is partly because Araki had intended Annasui to be a women but was forced to change it because of his editors or something. But yeah, that section of fights you're in blows. The part does start picking up (until the one shit fight I'm talking about) after that though.
Ah, thats a shame to hear. Hopefully the newest is better.
Nah, Dragon's Dream is bad but it isn't the fight I'm referring to, that is nearer to the end game of Stone Ocean. Dragon's Dream is part of the shit section of fights.
Is the fifth season Gintama.? I didn't hear much good about that season even from big Gintama fans, so that is understandable. I'll try to have watched another episode of Gintama before the heat death of the universe.
The weird fights, are weird. Most of them are in a similar stretch though there is one fight later on in the Part that I'm not a fan off. The good fights are still great though, mainly everything that involves Jolyne.
I'd rank them Jolyne > Josuke = Jonathan > Joseph > Jotaro > Giorno. Really, I like all of them except for Giorno. I feel like Jolyne and Josuke are decently similar in the reasons for why I like them, Jolyne is just the better version,. Jonathan is just very likable to me and I'm a big Part 1 stan in general. Joseph is quite entertaining but outside of that doesn't have too much going for him, Jotaro is cool I just like him less then the rest. Again, Giorno sucks ass.
Man, when Gintama ends I'm not gonna have an excuse to not watch it. Not like it still going on was ever an excuse for me, but I'll have even less of an excuse. Can't wait for the newest entry to be #1 on MAL and then drop due to spite 1/10 votes.
Part 6 does drag a bit in the midsection I agree. I was also spoiled on the ending but it was still really strong to me, Stone Ocean and Phantom Blood are the only JoJo parts I think have stand out endings. 2 and 3 are cool with the defeat of the villain but everything after that drags it down, 4 is fine but just fine, and 5's ending is a mess.
I really wish 6's character cast was better, it is the biggest thing that is holding it back from being amazing imo. Especially sucks considering Jolyne is the best Jojo character, and it also has the best written villain of the part. But eh, what can you do.
Steel and silver are both metal, and they both have balls. Absolutely confirmed, we will never get a Part 7 anime cause Gintama exists.
Jolyne and F.F are awesome, Pucci is pretty great as well, my favorite JoJo villain. Rest of Part 6's cast is pretty weak though imo.
By all rights I should have started SBR already but I haven't. I'll do it in a month or a couple of years.
I didn't like Part 5 much and I read the good scans for that. Certainly my least favorite Part, but I've come to appreciate certain aspects of it overtime since it has good stuff other parts lack. The best supporting cast, most consistently good Stands and Stand fights.
Luna is pretty great, but I gotta hand it to Imperfect Blue for being the true GOAT character of anime. The most powerful character arc I've ever seen, and they also drew the background art of the show cause they're such a nice man.

Very glad to see you enjoyed Stone Ocean though! I feel pretty similar in that it has many issues but is still good.

Yo-Yo Ma and Dragon's Dream are equally as bad imo.
