I began watching the anime because I was a diehard fan of the manga and I can confidently say that as an adaptation, A Sign of Affection does not disappoint! In fact, it enhances a lot of elements from the manga that were hard for me to visualize.

I will say that I was surprised that there’s a lot more sound in this adaptation than I expected for a show revolving around a girl who’s deaf. I expected more silence or more audio from her perspective. But that’s a very minor complaint.

Overall it’s a very faithful adaptation and I’m enjoying it immensely. The staff ... really did a lot of research about sign language and all of the scenes they use it in are animated really well. It’s quite refreshing because in the manga, you tend to only get a single panel. And you can tell by the speed of the gesture whether someone is happy or mad. It adds a lot more nuance to the characters that I love.

If you’re a fan of the manga, I highly recommend the anime. And if you’re enjoying the anime, do check out the manga! I think the manga by comparison makes your toes wriggle more at the cute scenes.

For the weird reviews on here: This is a shoujo ROMANCE. If you aren’t into that, this series won’t change your mind? It’s been my favorite manga romance of past 10 years. It’s lighthearted, gentle and sweet. When I’m having a bad week, this is the 20 minutes of soft puffy cotton candy that gives me a break from the world. And Itsuomi is a wonderful, thoughtful dude! Yeah, some lines are cheesy! I do not care. Please go back to your sad gritty stories if that’s your thing. But don’t sit around expecting a Jigglypuff to be a Scyther. This story is a wholesome one that thrives on the mundane and gentle life of a sheltered girl going out into the world and trying to make friends and experience love on her own terms. I think a lot of people on here are too hung up with wanting realism, wanting to see something terrible happen to her, and thus want to see Oushi be right - that the world is too dangerous for Yuki and she should just shut herself away and never experience anything. This story is *not* going to support that.

I’m just kidding. Or am I…? I can easily say that this is a 10/10 for me and my personal favorite. So call me biased. I have also read the novel that it’s based on so my review is with the knowledge that I already know the ending. I will do my best not to spoil more than is in the plot summary.

What sets “I Shall Master This Family” (literal Korean translation: “I’ll Become the Matriarch In This Life”) apart is the amazing cast of characters. Tia is THE BIGGEST GIRL BOSS next to maybe Medea from “Your ... Throne”. Tia is a boss, but not because she went back in time, it’s because she was ALWAYS QUALIFIED to be a leader. That’s why she helped her grandfather run their estate in the opening timeline. And the men in this patriarchal story - the obvious good ones - recognize Tia’s genius as a child in the new timeline and SUPPORT HER and raise her up. They are the good ones. Tia’s relationship with her romantic love interest Perez is so sweet and wholesome. POWER COUPLE. Perez is always there for Tia. And there are times where Tia says “No Perez, I got this” and he steps back and lets her run the show.

But the romance isn’t even the main theme of this story. At the end of the day, it’s a family story. Tia’s relationship with her father will have you running through the highest highs and the lowest lows. Her relationship with her grandfather is also really endearing. The best parts of this story are by far the family elements.

That’s it. I’ll stop here. You should read it. The art is great. The politics are nice and intricate. The pacing is well done. The women are strong - and not at the detriment of the strength of the male characters. The men are absolutely fabulous. Tia’s a joy. Perez is great. Clerivan is best boy. You will not be disappointed!

This is a 10/10. And I don’t give that rating easily. Go read it!

Honestly, this is the webtoon that got me hooked on webtoons. I personally find myself to be a pretty picky reader when it comes to scores but I have no hesitance giving this story a 10/10. I've read the webnovel farther than where the webcomic currently is and I love where the story goes.

You have magic, political intrigue, villains you love to hate, a level headed and smart female lead, and a knight (prince) in shining armor. There's just something about watching the destruction of a marriage and seeing that you can still find meaning beyond that relationship. I don't think that's too much of ... a spoiler since that's literally how the story opens - even though it takes a loooong time to get back to that point. The thing I love most about this story is my absolute hatred of the villains. It's SO easy to hate them. They're just straight up awful. But you really have to stick with it until the end. This is one of those stories where the journey is more important than the destination. Seeing the struggle and what Navier chooses to do and how she chooses to live her life - she's an icon of perseverance and dignity in the middle of an absolute dumpster fire.

To me "The Remarried Empress" represents the pinnacle of what comics should aspire to be - entertaining, encouraging, and self-revealing. I think any woman can find something to relate to in Navier's predicament. And I think it's really encouraging to see her not give up and still find a path for herself in all that mess. She's smart and she gets stuff done. And that's why you should read it.

Also the art is outstanding of course. If you have the chance, read the webnovel too. It's great.
