The Two Doctors of Darkness focuses on Black Jack competing medically with his arch nemesis Dr. Kiriko (from the older original Black Jack OVAS) while also trying to find a cure for a disease that could end the world. Rock, a character from many other Tezuka works, such as Metropolis, brings gun fights and action to the movie to make the plot a mix of medical mystery, evils of corporations, and the meanings of life and death.

These Black Jack specials are a combination of Dr. Black Jack's personal backstory and the stories of patients that he has treated. These episodes are a decent introduction to the world of Black Jack if you are planning on watching the 2004 TV series or do not want to watch the long episodes of the 1993 series.

Since these specials are a prequel to the 2004 TV series, they have a lighter tone than the old 1993 one and are a good watch if you like the idea of watching a medical anime series but are not good with surgical gore.

This isn’t your typical action and robots show.

As someone who is a huge fan of mech shows like Gundam and Macross, I was a tad skeptical to watch this show. The show began with a group of inexperienced pilot kids with girly-looking robots and a ton of sexual references so my first impression of the show was not that great. I had heard good things about the show so I decided to push through and continue watching. The first 5-6 episodes of the show did not “wow” me, but my feelings towards it changed shortly after.
