Regarding the scores on my anime list: I used to rate anime using the following criteria: if I was able to get through the series without dropping it, it would receive at least a 5. If I did end up dropping a show, the score would be based on how far I got before dropping it. I now realize that using this scale, where a 5/10 is terrible and a 7/10 is average, is extremely flawed. It's unfortunate that this scale is used so much nowadays that most people won't even consider a show, movie, game, etc, unless it has a score of 7/10 or higher. As a result, I decided to go back and adjust my scores accordingly. Now, I am actually using the descriptions that accompany each number here on MAL: 1/10 is terrible, 5/10 is average, 7/10 is good. I also decided not to rate any shows that I drop. Additionally, the scores are primarily based on my personal enjoyment of the anime. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions; I ask that you'll respect mine because I will respect yours.
"That was excellent; I am thoroughly impressed"

Anyway, I do know it was always trying to be a normal rom-com, but I still counted on Masamune-kun to rip the veil off and follow through with its premise. Would've been better than just a completely normal rom-com, right? Maybe I fell for the trap because I'm not experienced with the genre, but I still value concept a lot and it can usually make or break a show for me no matter what.
I can tell they were trying to make Aki more likable towards the end, but I think it was too little too late and it seemed to have come out of nowhere. It doesn't help that the fat kid's involvement had no payoff whatsoever.
I've been spoiled on what happens later in the manga and... hoo boy. I'm surprised Fuuka has gotten so much shit because I think Masamune-kun's "twist" is worse. And at least Fuuka realized that its source material is garbage and tried to work around it with an original ending, but Masamune-kun just stops abruptly with a "go read the manga" ending.
Just annoying, I guess.
Thanks a lot for reading. Glad you liked the review!
