Some kind of notebooks or even MicWord/Excel might work too actually (I used Excel before), but the good thing about MAL is the possibility of checking out other related stuff: ova's / specials / movies / other seasons / spin-off. Its also easier to look for the original creator and staff (to be able to search for other works of those people) - wikipedia gives same kind of info though, but with mal its way more simple. So yeah, mal so far looks like the best listing site for anime and manga.
But I have to admit I love all those listing sites in general. I use one for books too xD
I see :) So when did you get into anime? Was the reason a certain anime?
Hmm, mine was Sailor moon aswell - it was broadcasting on TV here at my place. I was like 12 or so and didn't really follow that anime in proper way neither realised it was anime (for first 2 months at least... later on I found out it was japanese cartoons xD) The first anime I watched on my own knowing what it is was Akira (can't say when exactly - somewhere around 14 I guess... It was the time I started watching more anime...and my real addiction began after i turned 16)
Yeah, thats the thing - sometimes you can consider anime a masterpiece for clear reasons: plot, characters development, twists, art, atmophere etc... and you will rate it a 10/10, but...There is a But! You can't / don't enjoy it 100%. even though you think it was omfgod so good done. On the other hand an anime can be simply ok with plot holes and some missed points but it made you cry (if its drama) or laugh (comedy) or think of something (psychological). Well, what I mean is: its nice when anime is done good, but it needs to make an inmact on you too, otherwise you can't consider it neither masterpiece nor favourite.
DN indeed got screwed after first half... L! noooo!! *cries* Ah, well, it was still great show which I enjoyed. Had same with Skip Beat... ending is like "we have no manga source, so we drop it right here"... and no second season =_= But I still love anime for the characters :3
Same here - mainly use it for list updates (in past when I didn't track watched anime I had some problems with watching same anime all over again without realising it and I thought "Oh god! I know the plot... who the hell told me all those spoilers". Meh, so lame. But I'm using this site for a while now (my best rl friend told me about it), so got to use forums and other features too :) Spoiler button works same as on other sites - you can take a look at wiki for BB codes -> right here
Thats nice - 2 years already! Ahh, I feel nostalgic. What was your very first anime?
Lol, I see. Well, its always like that - not only with anime. I read - not really alot, but decent amount of books - too, so its hard for me to say what my favourite book is or even whats best author. Movies are even harder >< I can decide on manga though!
Oh, you don't really need a reason to like something - I mean its ok to call anime your fav as long as you really fully enjoy watching it. Even if plot is crap of characters are plan. And FMA is great anime after all - I loved first adaptation and was watching half of second (but lost the source, so have to download it again >< ).
Hey!

Haha, well, I'm watching anime for like 5 years now, so no wonder my list looks long :) You've seen a nice amount yourself already too :)
Hmm, I've watched Btoom when it was ongoing but I couldn't go on with it since I have problems watching ongoings in general - when I have to wait for a week I forget what previous episodes were about and its hard to get into the atmosphere of that anime, so I prefer to watch things which already ended (unless its something long running like One Piece). So, I stopped with Btoom while ago and didn't come back to it in a while. I guess I'll finish it soon though (already have it downloaded), so I can later give you correct answer about it. As for now - the part I've seen was pretty good, behaving of main character is rather realistic and he makes it easier to get into the story, I sence a good development there too.
Absolute favourite? Hmm, hard to say. I mean the more you watch the harder it is to decide - I also can't choose between different genres since they are good in different aspects. If I'm allowed to go by most common genres:
Skip Beat (for shoujo)
Honey and clover (for josei)
One Piece (for shounen)
Kaiji (for seinen)
Nodame cantabile (for music)
Major (for sports)
Ghost in the shell (for sci-fi)
Gintama (for comedy)
Natsume Yuujinchou (for slice of life)
