As an anime enthusiast, I consider anime a unique mode of entertainment that offers questions to many aspects of society, humanity, and the world. I enjoy anything ranging from romantic comedies to psychological thrillers and other genres. Although I don't limit myself to particular genres, there are certainly genres that I find offer better entertainment value and plot sequencing more often than not (e.g psychological vs. harem). Aside from the intellectual food that this medium provides at times, I still indulge myself in ecchi and harem anime from time to time strictly for research purposes. I value layered characters, compelling world building, and characters that demand my initial investment. If a show gives me an interesting cast of characters (that don't fall into over-used tropes), then I generally am invested as long as all other elements hold up decently well (i.e world building, animation, plot structure, etc.). All of my scores keep into account not only the pure entertainment value a show offers, but the conviction with which certain thoughts, ideas, and values are effectively conveyed.
