I went into this season already loving the 1st season. Sure, some of the characters could be annoying but were very relatable, but my biggest issue was the story was moving rather slowly. That all changed this season and the plot just rushes ahead, unfortunately a lot of the characters seem to have been put on the back burner and felt like there was a very uneven balance of story and characters not really getting much time making it feel even more rushed. By the end, I felt like I missed a third of the story was missing as so much is rushed the last ... three episodes and you're just expected to just go along with it.

I love the art, the animation, the characters and even the story as rushed as it was. I just wish we had a bit more time to fully flesh out of the major plot holes and character arcs, being that the average Gundam show is double in length when it comes to episodes, so I feel they really did themselves a huge disservice as the story here has huge potential to be one of the best stories in Gundam and instead just felt rushed and pieced together at the last minute, making it just a slightly above average instead of excellent.

So my feelings on Trigun are a bit mixed. While I adore the style and story of the original anime and the absolute bananas story in the manga, I feel a lot of it just does not hold up as well. The movie that came out a decade or so after the anime felt very much just a continuation of the anime but just prettier with little to no value added other than if you’re into Trigun, it’s just something more with little more than window dressing.

My initial reaction to it being CG was pretty jaded but optimistic as in recent years 2D and ... 3D especially in anime has been having a bit of a resurgence and honestly looking really good. I can say without a doubt not just with Trigun Stampede, but other anime as well. We are in a renaissance of 3D anime, and I am very much looking forward to how creative animators can get. I’m genuinely impressed with how fluid and amazing everything looks in this show. The only way I can describe the animation is that it has a rotoscoping feel to all the animation making the characters move in a much more natural way then you would find in 2D animation.

Back when this show was airing I had a lot going on and I just don’t think I gave this anime my full attention and felt bored and very lost by episode 3 and dropped it by episode 7. I also did some research on this show to understand the context of where Stampede takes place within Trigun itself, and I think that is what really threw me off. As a fan of the manga and had some-what recently reread it again a few years ago and was just a bit confused about where we were in the timeline and story. To only realize this is sort of a retelling of the story itself, and with that in mind I had a much better understanding of why some characters were not all that much the same from the manga or the anime.

Then Episode Nine happened! We not only get a more indepth look into both Vash and Knives relationship was like when they went their separate ways, we now understand why Vash has a prosthetic arm, and then on top of that we get one of my all time favorite scenes in the Trigun manga, the Garden! It’s then at this point where the anime really finds itself and comes into its own. From this point on everything gets very real, and I have no doubt in my mind now that the only way to tell this story was in 3D. With the larger than life spectacle that is the Trigun manga, they take the nearly incomprehensible art and make it into something rather surreal and beautiful looking. I was genuinely impressed by what they had accomplished at the end of this season.

By the end of this season I was very satisfied and enjoyed my time with this series. It all concluded very well leaving it open for another season but enjoyable closer. I am very excited to see what they pull off in season 2.

I absolutely love the 80s OVA’s as well as Devilman: Crybaby. Both are fantastic in their own ways, but I had never read the manga.

At first my impressions were not great. Early on the art is rather basic and very flat to the point it’s very unappealing. Even for manga from the early 70’s the art is just a bit jarring. It was a bit of a chore to get through the first chapter and honestly it’s poorly paced and a bit disconnected with the plot and pacing. By the second chapter things become a bit more clear and more coherent, but still a ... bit messy. Good news though the art really starts to improve a lot more by the end of chapter two going into the third chapter as well as much better pacing.

At this point things start to go really off the rails as we suddenly just start time traveling visiting iconic figures of history. I’m not really going to get into details, because honestly it all felt like filler and a waste of time that added little to nothing to the story then going on a time travel adventure. The context of all of this really does nothing to really add much of the overall story in general. We eventually get back to the world of Devilman, but at this point I really felt bored and honestly was struggling finishing this.

At this point I feel no engagement towards any of this story at this point. It isn’t until chapter 15 where things start to get interesting again. The problem is after 10 chapters of nonsense I really don't care what happens. Without getting into major spoilers, but we lose a main character and it is some of the best writing of the series up to this point and it really feels very emotional and tragic. Unfortunately it all ends on a more down and sour note after that with not much of a conclusion.

Overall I enjoyed the story but very disjointed, and rather sloppy writing at times.

I had originally seen this series about 15 or so years ago and fell in love with it not knowing much about Gundam so I figured I would start at the beginning. Now having recently watched Gundam Origins OVA it helped give a lot of backstory to many of the characters and political nature of the show itself, helping put in context some of the characters but as well as this whole series. So I figured with Origins being fresh in my mind may as well rewatch this series. With all that said, I do enjoy this series more now than I did back then.

So ... the most obvious thing about this series is the animation is not the greatest and that has to do with a lot of things, partially due to the limiting budget at the time, but that all said, watching this now on Blu-ray the colors just pop, especially the trippy visuals in the last few episodes. Right Stuf did an amazing job with this release. I will say this, the visually looks a hell of a lot better and has aged better visually at least then other series of similar era. For example, shows like Combattler V or Voltes V while visually stunning really have pretty poor animation, I would argue worse than Gundam. Then you have one of my all time favorites Lupin III, and while it’s obviously not a giant robot show, the anime is from the 70s and is more plot and character oriented but the animation is utter garbage for even for the time. My point is just because the animation is not that great, if you have good characters and a story that I enjoy I can easily look past the visuals as long as it holds my attention.

As for the story, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for me. I overall enjoy it a lot but boy can it drag at times and be really slow, so you really have to have some patience as there a decent portion of the show just building up characters, though that is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that if you’re not into what this anime is doing it can really drag on for a while especially after the first 10 or so episodes. What I do love though is instead of just adding filler to the fights they explore the tragedy of what war does to people and how that changes these people's lives, and not just the main cast but even Zeon to some extent as well. I am not going to go into the plot of the story or what I do or don’t like as the premise is rather simple and I just don’t honestly think I can say anything different than what literally every other review has already said. What I do love though is how they explore the idea of what makes all wars terrible and the political ramifications of how difficult even sometimes the most basic of things can be when you don’t have the political clout or power to do so.

The last quarter of episodes are where things really start to finally come together and the characters really come into their own. What I didn’t realize is that all the stuff I found most memorable are from this last arc of this series. All the stuff with Lalah and Newtypes I thought was much earlier but we really do not find out about anything until nearly the end. In some ways it’s disappointing as we really do not get to explore enough about Newtypes and their powers but at the same time I feel like that would have taken away from a lot of the drama and character development. My biggest issue is that the series just kind of ends without a whole lot of closure. That all said, I still had a great time watching this series. This is one of those shows that is more about the journey and the characters than the story itself.

When I first watched this series back in 2005 I never cared to much for it. It was enjoyable but never really could get into it. Now in 2021 having this on Blu-ray being able to see there stunning art as it was meant to be helped a lot.

This time around I was far more invested in the story even though it kind of falls flat at the end and feels a bit rushed. The characters are really what sell this show. The first few episodes are a bit slow and honestly felt like just another fantasy story, but those episodes really help with ... the character development and get you invested in them, because by the end of this OVA at least there are things that happen that really make you appreciate those earlier episodes.

Overall I had an absolute blast with this series. It's far from perfect, but for what it is trying to do it's a lot of fun in you are into D&D type fantasy. The animation is stunning and has a rather unique look to it.

This is Hentai with a some what decent story in it. There is not all that much sex with a decent amount of nudity. There is some bondage, S&M and some tentacle stuff so if that isn't your thing stay away from this title. This OVA is only 2 episodes so there isn't to much of an investment here. The music is decent but nothing great. Some of the music sets the mood for some scenes but nothing special. For a title that came out in 1999 the art is pretty poor. It isn't awful but it's pretty uninteresting or detailed.

Over all, this short ... 2 episode OVA has a decent story line for a Hentai title. Nothing great or rememberable. For a Hentai it lacks sex scenes. The second episode barley has any nudity in it. This is the reason your watching this, for the sex and nudity, and it really doesn't deliver much on that.
