If my opinion changes on FranXX I’ll either update that via my list, or if it’s significant enough I’ll comment to you again.
Cheers.
Sorry I deleted your earlier comments, I didn’t mean to and mistook your’s for my own when checking bbcode.
It gets really difficult to send these on mobile.
I don't understand why Darling in the fran has a 9
Secondly, NGE is a lot of things. It's confusing if you aren't paying 100% attention to what's going on, I could see someone viewing it as something that takes itself too seriously and tries too hard to be 'deep', but I wouldn't necessarily call that pretentious. I agree that FranXX has a more "casual" vibe, but that's more to do with it being a pseudo-drama, in an industry moving towards light-hearted, moe shit. They're trying to appeal to the largest audience possible, and for some, that works, but personally, I'd rather something be as original as possible, even if that means a smaller fan base (personal opinion).
In terms of my comments about the fanbase, what they think, has nothing to do with what I think. At the same time, having an opinion like mine (not being a fan of the show), is obviously going against popular opinion. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that. Having people agree on everything all the time would be not only boring but would also being unrealistic. For example, you said I like K-On!, and you didn't. That's fine, I'm not upset about that, and it's perfectly understandable. Where my problem lies, is where if you told me that you didn't like K-On! and I replied telling you that you should kill yourself, or that your family should all die of cancer. You may think I'm exaggerating, but these childish playground insults I've seen thrown around more in the 6 months of this show's fanbase, than in my entire life. If you don't believe me, go tell someone on 4chan or Reddit that Darling in the FranXX isn't very good, and you'll see what I mean. Like I said, this doesn't influence my opinion of the show at all, but it's definitely a clear indicator of the maturity of some of the more vocal people who like the show, and that on its own is enough to make me overanalyze the shit out of it, to the point where I don't like it. That being said, I appreciate you taking the time to send a logical and civilized message back, considering how rare it is iwith this show.
In terms of all the conceptual stuff you mentioned (the societal influences on the under-development of their sexual education). I think that's all well and good, and if that's part of what you find interesting about it, then that's great. I personally am not invested in the characters at all and don't care enough to look into the background of the plot.
Episode 13 was good, and I sincerely thought that the backstory was well thought out, however, the episode following the beach episode (splitting the dorm I believe) was not only useless to the story but pretty much just filler with the exception of 1 or two scenes. Almost an entire episode of a 24 episode show being dedicated to (seemingly) nothing, is pretty rare, and also just bad pacing. I don't think I'm alone in the assessment that, that episode was fairly poorly done and kind of useless, although 002 did a flip over a couch in a moment of Sakuga I remember, so the fans will go crazy for that one.
In regards to the hype, I know this is an unavoidable aspect of any popular show, and it was pretty mundane of me to even bring it up, albeit, I really would appreciate it if, amidst the hype, my opinion is acknowledged (like you're doing) rather than discarded completely and told that I'm somehow wrong which is why I brought it up preemptively.
I feel like a lot of the criticizing I've done is more nitpicky than anything, and probably unnecessary, but if I'm wrong, than I would seriously like to know so I can give credit where credit is due. Thanks.
