The animation on Blassreiter leaves a little to be desired, but the stories are similar. The lone hero fights against the injustice of their own kind to save humans. In both cases the hero's story is where it all began.

While there are some parallels between the plot lines and characters, the most striking similarity between these two shows is in the atmosphere. There is good comradery between the the characters and a gentle kindness that eminates from the protagonist of both shows. However, despite that there is a nagging creepiness which hangs in the background and a sense that all is not quite as it may first appear. The definitions of good and evil, write and wrong, seem to become complicated an lost in the varied perspectives of the characters.

Though the plot premise is different, Naruto and Black Star are little twinners. Also, the set up of a team of kids that are a bid dysfunctional and talented fighting against the odds is similar.

Clannad: After Story

What, there is life after high school? After love? After Marriage? Even after Kids?!!! Who comes up with this stuff. Though the feeling of these two series is different, they both share the honor of having plots deeper than simple romance. Also they both have a balance between comedy and drama.

GetBackers

Both surround a couple of guys with special abilities fighting to help people and deal with the friends, foes, and organizations that become involved in the conflicts. The feel and animation style is fairly similar in both, though the relationships and backgrounds of the characters are quite different.

Kimi ni Todoke

While the feel and style of these anime are different, they both are about a girl who is often misunderstood by other people. In both stories the girl is viewed as creepy and through their experiences learns to change some parts of themselves while coming to accept others.

Samurai Deeper Kyou

Both are about samurai with a very dark past. About moving toward humanity from within a killer. Both are healed by a relation with a woman, though it takes the entire anime for them to figure it out.

Both are about a character who can see/talk with spirits/monsters and who have a strong companion who may turn against them, but who shares a very strong bond with them.

If you liked
Monster
...then you might like
Mouryou no Hako

The creepiness level of both is pretty much the same. Monster takes a lot longer getting to the disturbing stuff and isn't quite as dark as Mouryou. However, in a one on one battle, the 'genius psycho-killer' in Monster would probably take the plain old 'psycho-killer' in Mouryou. What really makes me twitchy about these anime is that if you take out a few artistic smudges in abilities, the profile of these killers is sickeningly plausible. Forget surreal creatures that never existed . . . you could run into these guys at any grocery store. Yikes!

If you liked
Death Note
...then you might like
Mouryou no Hako

The psychotic killer vs brilliant mind is the same, though from opposite perspectives. However, where the killer in Death Note is pretty sympathetic and likable, the killer in Mouryou is truly disturbed and sadly plausible (minus some technology) which sets up an entirely different feel. Death Note is a balance between action, psychological drama, and comedy. However Mouryou is almost pure psychological thriller, and requires a more intellectually mature audience.

Both about generally kind-hearted youths who get along better with spirits/monsters than with people and have strong protectors who are also friends.

Zombie-Loan

Well, this one is pretty obvious with the whole Death God and Other Shore themes. Death Note is a lot darker and more complicated, but they both manage to move the plot along fairly quickly.

If you liked
D.Gray-man

Zombie-Loan

A group of 'gifted' young people who go around destroying the crazed bad guys, and pressured when the bad guys are suddenly getting smarter. Also, it isn't always clear who the bad guys are, though they are a bit too predictable in Zombie-Loan. D. Gray-man takes a while to get around to anywhere but then shows up with some really great plot twists. Zombie-Loan is short, but actually manages to pack a story-line into 13 episodes/OVAs. Sadly, both died before their time.

GetBackers

Devil May Cry

Both have characters who are down on their luck (largely because of their personal preferances in lifestyle) and who are really bad with money. Also the premise of having an agency where people come to you for help is the same, though the details around the main characters are quite a bit different.

If you liked
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

Gintama

Both about samurai who prefer not to kill people because of a violent past. Both employ drama and comedy in turn. Kenshin is more serious than Gintama, which has a lot of silly, immature, or pointless humor (which is, of course, part of its charm).

If you liked
Samurai Champloo

Gintama

Both comedic, but with serious moments. Both main characters appear apathetic, but in reality feel things very strongly and have a strong sense of duty. Both main characters are strong samurai with a chaotic style that throws opponents off and are unable to express themselves normally, but seem to do so adequately through their actions. Etc. Gintama is a bit more lighthearted and has a lot more pointless comedy, but that is to be expected since it is so much longer.

Saiunkoku Monogatari

While the animation and stories are different, there are a few characteristics of these two anime which make them enjoyable. Both are about a woman surrounded by men, but that is not the overriding feature driving the plot. Also both females are capable and make their way based on their own merits as much as the support of their protectors. The stories are based on human relations set in a fantastical world rather than on unrealistic dreams that come true based on someones desire to win. The characters have to work for the outcome they desire, and while there is an undertone of romance in both stories, it is secondary to the main plot. Both stories also manage to have humor in moderation with drama.

Durarara!!

Though the plots are different, there is a similar dynamic between the characters in both series; ie a main character who is genius, excentric, and more than he seems to be on the surface, and at least one supporting character who is geinius, excentric, and takes great joy out of his own ability to manipulate people. And thenthere are a bunch of other people who are also a bit off in society. Durarara!! is a bit more humurous than Death Note, but just as dark.

If you liked
D.Gray-man

Kuroshitsuji

While there are not many similarities in the characters, the feel of both anime series is similar. Both are dark and deal with exceptionally young antagonists forced into adult roles. Both series deal with demons and humans and have complex relationships between the dark and the light sides. And both antagonists are fighting a history much longer than their own lifetime.

07-Ghost

Teito and Allen have somewhat remaniscent personalitites and both have an important secret about who they are that they themselves don't know about. It almost seems that someone is pushing them toward a destiny that they have yet to understand. 07-Ghost is not as dark as D-Grayman and Teito is outwardly timid while carrying a very dark self inside. Allen has a dark side he fights with, but it is not actually HIM.

Pandora Hearts

Oz and Allen are very similar characters; always kind, happy, and smiling while inwardly conflicted with who they they want to be. Both deal with deamons in a human world and a conveluted secret past that must be uncovered. Also, there is some confusion as to who is bad and who is good. Beyond that, both have similar animation styles and have a somewhat dark atmosphere.

Naruto: Shippuuden

Though the personalities of both main characters are different, as is the basic setting of the show, Naruto and Yuuri one important trait: an infectious and deliberate innocence. Both characters appear dense to the point of folly sometimes and ultimately gather friends around them who are willing to protect them from their own blind spots. However, as they grow and mature they both choose to ebrace their own innocence rather than becoming wiser and more jaded. It is their choice to take the hurt and pain of betrayal and ridicule rather than to embrace resentment, hate, or power that makes them strong and unpredictable. While it appears that they are easily manipulated at the onset, their kindness and dedication goes to a level that supasses any riva'ls ability to comprehend and therefor often takes them off-guard. Also, they are often underestimated since most people think their behavior a result of stupidity and naivete rather than a concious choice . . . a choice which makes people want to hope and makes them willing to follow. It is also a little more mature from the outset than Naruto is; which feels very 'saturday morning cartoon' for much of the origional show.

Hellsing Ultimate

Each series is dark, dramatic, and based off the premise of a vampire with extreme abilities fighting for humans against its own kind. Though plot similaries more or less stop there and beyond the concept of super-vampire predator the main characters are nothing alike. Essentially they are enough alike to sparkinterest, but not rubber stamp copies of eachother . . . which is good.

Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha

Both Series have a protagonist who is socially inept, but likeable anyway. Also, for both their ability is only partially due to special abilities and largely due to actual physical training on thier part. Both are dark tortured souls though they come of as mild-manored and in control.
