I didn't quite ragequit--I've still been mulling over watching the last season of the anime eventually considering I've heard it's still solid and most importantly has more Chihiro. But yeah it kind of sucks. Unfortunately I think the odds of there being another season are virtually zero considering the series sold poorly for whatever reason as far as I know and the studio that made the anime literally filed for bankruptcy last year.

Oh boy here we go. The first thing to mention is that it very well may just be Toradora. I have been searching for three years for an anime that is both similar to and as good as Toradora and have been mostly unsuccessful.

Anyways, for sure the two most similar shows I know of are Golden Time (source material by the same author as Toradora) and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou though for various reasons that I can't easily explain to someone that hasn't already seen the show I don't think either is as good and wouldn't necessarily recommend them, though I did enjoy both. It is worth mentioning that there are a good chunk of people out there who like both of these series much more than I did though so maybe you'll end up liking them a lot also. There's also My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU which is a personal favorite of mine and is similar to Toradora in a lot of ways. You can try it if you like, though I don't think it has quite the universal appeal that Toradora seems to and I'm not sure whether or not you'd like it.

If you are looking for mostly comedy-focused romcoms, I think some pretty great ones are Ouran High School Host Club, Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, and School Rumble. As I said though these are mostly about the comedy, and while they aren't completely devoid of serious moments, you won't get drama anywhere near the level of Toradora with these shows.

On the other side of the coin if you're looking for drama, I'm generally a fan of Clannad and Nagi no Asukara. Those definitely have romcom aspects as well, though I'd probably compare those to something like Angel Beats sooner than I would compare them to Toradora (moreso NagiAsu, as Clannad kind of falls square in the middle between the two imo).

There is obviously more shows I could list considering this is probably my most watched genre overall, but I'll elect to stop here. This covers most of my favorites here though so hopefully there's something here you would end up liking.

edit: trying to fix link format here, hold up for about 3 min if you see this before then

Since I was creeping on your/Derek's profile (sending this to both of you) and saw this conversation, I figured I'd try and address the confusion since I've played the Danganronpa games. It's sort of hard for me to figure out exactly what they're going for with part 3 also, but here's my take on the situation:

-The first game is the same thing as the first anime, which you guys watched.

-The second game has a different main cast than the first game/anime but still comes after the first game in the same timeline/universe. And yes, games 1 and 2 are directly connected in a substantial way. (ie. if you tried to play the second game without playing the first you would be somewhat confused by certain parts of the story.)

-Danganronpa 3 the anime comes after game 2 in the timeline, which means it might be related to the story of both of the first two games. However, due to the nature of the story of game 2, if the writers wanted it could easily be made into a sidestory that has no effect whatsoever on whatever is going to happen in the new anime, or at least the effect could be summarized pretty quickly in a few sentences of narration without changing the experience much. It's looking like they're going that route since they've only announced things about characters from the first game, and it makes sense that they'd want to make it accessible to anime-only fans. So, basically, I think you guys are most likely fine to go straight from 1 to 3, but I can't find anything that absolutely guarantees that will be the case.

Also, note that there's also a new game coming out titled "New Danganronpa V3" (plus some subtitle). Don't get confused if you find something about that though because that is starting an entirely new storyline.

That explains the skip then.

Ohhhh! That's really weird.
garab0n Feb 19, 2016 11:08 AM
Where's Danganronpa 2!? Why does that not exist!?
garab0n Nov 28, 2015 4:58 PM
How do you have so many rewatches!?

My #1 recommendation is probably Noragami. I liked it a lot and it seems to fit what you're looking for for the most part. Also evidently you have some interest in it already since it's on your PTW list. Other options:

Shiki - Personally I liked this show a lot, but even though it does fit the requirements you gave I'm not 100% sure whether you'd like it or not. (It's kind of one of those shows that's tailor-made to my tastes.) It has a pretty slow and atmospheric buildup that lasts for a while, so don't watch this if you're looking for a nonstop hype fast-paced show like Death Note or something. Otherwise though feel free to give it a try.

Baccano - I don't like this show nearly as much as everyone else does, but I still thought it was a pretty fun ride and odds are you'll like it more than I did.

If none of those sound appealing I do have a few other ideas if you want them, but I'm less confident in those for various reasons.

Allright thanks. Yeah I was planning on starting after whatever book the anime ends at if I decide to read them, since watching the anime and then reading 5 books about the same stuff happening doesn't seem like the best idea. Still haven't decided whether I want to or not yet though--I'll probably end up deciding that when I'm like almost done with the rewatch of the anime. Pretty good chance I end up attempting to start at least though if the Holo/Lawrence banter is just as good in the books.

So, I seem to remember you telling you read/were reading the Spice and Wolf novels at some point. Assuming that's correct, how were were they, compared to the anime?

I'm rewatching the anime now and I can tell you I'm going to be pretty unhappy once I finish season 2 and there's no more, so I might end up wanting to go through the LN's once that happens.

Well I finally finished watching Breaking Bad with my dad. The ending was awesome obviously--it pretty much only got better as it went on. I don't think I enjoyed the show quite as much as my favorite anime but it was still pretty great for sure.
garab0n Jul 11, 2015 6:57 PM
I already put it on my plan to watch before you said that.
thetrooper007 Apr 26, 2015 6:57 PM
Dude yes Blast of Tempest was awesome and not only because of Shakespeare (although that was probably a major factor).
thetrooper007 Apr 1, 2015 6:52 PM
Oh I know right?

At least the cat on the FMA Brotherhood page is awesome though.
thetrooper007 Mar 15, 2015 5:03 PM
If you like that type of super-melodramatic romance/harem story then Clannad is worth watching pretty much regardless of what else I say imo. As of episode 3 though, they are similar-ish in style except Clannad seems better in pretty much every way.

I have a few specific things I could say but I'll wait until after I finish to say anymore than that.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
