Hey, thanks, and sorry I didn't reply sooner. Yeah, Berserk was a pretty tough one tbh. I feel like the fandom has gotten a bit cultish at this point, and they tend to overhype its action/grimdark elements while managing to ignore literally everything about its themes. I swear that half of them believe that Guts is straight as an arrow, and that Skull Knight is a trustworthy bro to him.
It's frustrating... like, how do you notice that Griffith is gay (although a lot of people go based on his looks, wtf, it's not 2005) and not notice Guts' weird, needy, ambiguously queer attachment to him in return? Or worse, believe Griffith is some kind of sociopath, in direct contradiction to pretty much all of his on-panel appearances? Also, claiming to be traumatized by the Eclipse scene in the manga... I can't even. It's literally porn, and not even the weird kind you'd find in the darker recesses of Deviantart. As you can see, while I like Berserk, when I actually think about it, the bile overfloweth. My partner found a blog by someone going by Bthump, who does some pretty nice Berserk metacommentary stuff though, if you're interested in seeing someone dissect the series further. I will warn you though, they're long af.
I'd be interested to know what else you thought about it that I didn't manage to steal for my sleep-deprived review, though. Seeing someoe who can view this series with a critical eye is like a breath of fresh air tbh.
