- Likeable, nuanced characters
- Use of narrative tropes without descending into cliche
- Lovely use of a favourite trope/theme (ex. time travel, battle royale, survival)
- Well-animated and choreographed fight scenes (mecha fights excluded)
- Detailed world-building
- Intentionally funny
- Enjoyable to watch

I despise:
- Boring character tropes (ex. the basic dandere, the generic snarky LN protagonist)
- Offensive depiction of female characters
- Gratuitous fanservice
- Unbelievable relationships (ex. Kirito and Asuna from SAO)

Definitely agree with you with Clannad After Story Review!

Personally I may give it a 8 or even 9/10 BUT after that Deus Ex Machina Ending ruined it for me!

Disliking her I get. Hatred seems pretty harsh, though! What brings you into hate territory?

When I think about it, I didn't love the first half of Clannad AS, either. But the second half with Tomoya, Ushio, Tomoya dad and the Furukawas make up for it.

Nope, not even in the slightest bit. While a lot of yuri/shoujo-ai works throw that stuff in for the sole sake of pandering (I'm looking at you, Sakura Trick), Maria-sama ga Miteru is completely free of that sort of junk. The story is set at an all-girls' Catholic school and explores the close relationships between the girls in a very realistic manner. Save one character, none of the relationships are romantic in nature, and more have to do with the sisterly bonds between an upperclassmen and her junior. Although some of the show's drama could be handled better at times, Maria-sama ga Miteru is still an excellent character-driven series and has one of the most complex casts in any anime.

There are actually a good number of anime titles with good female character development out there, so it really depends on where you're looking. Shoujo and Josei titles are generally good places to start, since they're written to have characters that female audiences can easily relate to. Off the top of my head, I'll try and list a bunch of high-quality titles that I felt had well-realized female leads. Feel free to ask me more about any of these if one catches your eye!

I've heard from a few people who read Sakamichi no Apollon's manga that the anime adaptation rushed a lot of aspects and cut out a ton of content towards the end. So it's entirely possible that characters such as Ritsuko got the short end of the stick and ended up being nothing more than a flaky romantic interest.

Oh I just reaaally liked Oofuri XD Was watching Giant Killing and that was cool too XD I read Eyeshield 21 and didn't bother with the animu because too long.

I find that a lot of the sports anime are super long lol. Oofuri was just the right length XD
