Oh, well props to JYB for his Trigun performance! I like that he seems to have set a new standard and such, that's awesome. I totally get it; Milly's voice probably would get on your nerves then in the sub, so good choice xD I love her voice more because her Japanese voice actress usually plays roles of more opinionated and feistier female characters (Yoruichi from Bleach, Otae from Gintama, Kagome from InuYasha, to name a few), so her performance as Milly was super impressive to me, because her voice sounded completely different than usual and made Milly into a new take on the "gentle giant" trope, in a way.
JYB dissed Rukia Kuchiki, a character from Bleach, which I explained a little while ago has been the bane of my existence haha. A fan asked him if he preferred Ichigo (the main character who he voices) with Rukia or Orihime, and he said Orihime. Now, I can get over who he ships because shipping is just shipping, but after saying he preferred Orihime (who is a really shitty character who has a rabid fan base), he laughed at Rukia and called her an "old lady" because she's immortal, basically implying she's too old to get with the main character and isn't as desirable. Rukia is a fantastic character that's really complex, determined, and caring, so it hurt that he'd make fun of her for such a shallow and stupid reason. Considering how Orihime is just there for fanservice and worshiping Ichigo, it also sucked that he favors her over Rukia. (I don't trust people who love Orihime, tbh, she's a little insane haha.)
I actually haven't watched Bebop dubbed! But it's one of the few dubs I seriously respect. It's different than the original version, but I like the angle the dub took with it. Oh gosh, Kill la Kill was crazy with all that text, so I get that you'd want to have that dubbed to keep up with everything.
I've heard good things about all those dubs you listed, so I'll check some dubbed scenes from them out! Btw, thank you so much for sharing your perspective on dubs with me! I have more of a respect for dubs now that you've shared why you like them and your thoughts. I mean, I'm not gonna watch them over subs because I still can't say I like dubs, but I do get how other people would like them. So thank you!!
Are there any dubs you'd recommend that are pretty good? From the ones I've seen parts of, I think Cowboy Bebop's, Kill la Kill's, Lucky Star's, and Black Lagoon's dubs seem pretty decent. But you're more of an expert than I am, so I'd like to know what you think!
You prefer Vash and Milly's dub voices? Might I ask why? Haha not judging of course, but I loved the Japanese voices way more. I'm not a huge fan of Johnny Yong Bosch in general though both because I don't care for his voice work and because he dissed one of my favorite characters in a really shallow and shitty way in favor of an awful character, so I don't care for his toned-down portrayal of the super animated and crazy Vash, but he probably did better later on when Vash got more serious. Milly's voice actress was nice so I get that, but I just love her cute super-high voice in the Japanese version! xD
Isn't it such a good opening?? Now whenever I hear the line "We were born to make history!!" I get so excited xDD How do you like it so far? Gosh, it looks so good!!
Kuroko no Basket is something else? I believe it xDD Are sports anime as dramatic as they say? They look overly intense and dramatic haha though I hear Hajime no Ippo is good, if you're interested in another sports anime. My twin brother is watching it now and says it's awesome!
I've never heard of Kuuchuu Buranko, but it looks really cool! Definitely seems unique. It certainly doesn't look like it would be rated R, but maybe that's what makes it so cool? Haha I'm definitely gonna research it some more; you've gotten me so curious about it!
Ahh, that sounds really fun! I'm glad you're doing something you really like to do ;D My life's been okay, still getting used to the whole college thing, which is tricky for an introvert like me haha. Thankfully my college isn't that hard for me so the academics aren't too stressful; it's just quite a bit of work to manage. I checked out my college's anime club meeting and was pretty disappointed in it, mainly because they voted to watch dubs over subs and I cannot handle dubs at all. I had to sit through Trigun, Steins;Gate, and Clannad dubbed before me and my friends had to leave lol. What are your thoughts on subs vs dubs, by the way? I know most people are kinda split on the "issue." xD
So how has life been for you?? Seen any good anime lately that you're dying to talk about? ;D
Btw, I love your new profile picture! It's amazing; it makes me laugh every time I see it xDD
I would recommend you start off from the beginning to get the 'complete' Oregairu experience since the anime adaptation leaves way too much stuff here and there (it's just worth it)
Yes, definitely! The manga is way too much better than the anime. You should just read the brilliant manga and probably skip over the adaptation if you want (Season 1 was meh, season 2 was just crappy)
As far as manga/LNs are concerned, I'm currently reading Tokyo Ghoul and the Oregairu series. Both of them are quite good and I would recommend you to check these out if you haven't read them yet!
Working at Panera is cool! I love that place xD Most people who work in food service say that doing it long enough makes them get sick of the food they're serving; if you ever stop working there, do you think you'll still have the stomach to eat at Panera Bread again? ;P
Ahh, don't get me started on Gainax and Trigger!! I'm a fangirl of both studios, so we can be fans together! xD Madhouse puts good-looking stuff out, but I'm pretty salty at them right now because of a show they're doing that's airing this season: Alderamin on the Sky. That show is the bane of my existence . . . I hate it with a fiery passion . . .
The Tachikoma robots are so great!! I loved their episodes where they would talk together and we could see how the machines were evolving; that was pretty clever! I love Batou too, since he's an awesome guy, although I can't bring myself to like the Major though. I feel like she's a try-hard cool character, like "Look at this sexy badass lady who does badass things constantly! Isn't she badass??" And she often reiterated points that other characters brought up and acted like she came up with it; I found that really funny xD I prefer her in the movie, because I felt like her character actually had something going on other than looking and acting cool, even if her issues were quite predictable.
Speaking of the Major, which design for her character do you like better? Her design from the original movie or from the series? I like her movie design better because I think the blue hair and gray eyes look nice together, although her tv series outfit is pretty cool. What do you think, if you have an opinion on it?
Wow, so you like singing? I think that's wonderful! Seeing as you really talk passionately about it, I hope you pursue a career in it! But life really is tough, huh? You never really know where it's gonna take you (I'm trying to be so deep and failing xDD). It's great that you found that choral group though!! Let me know once you get into contact with him about pursuing that music career—I'm rooting for you to get that dream job!! Oh, and if you don't mind my asking, what kind of work do you now?
About Trigun, I totally agree with all your critiques! The slower pacing and the episodic episodes also hurt my impression of the show. I just felt like it was really repetitive: Vash does silly stuff, then does something dramatic, saves the day, won't kill, etc. To be honest, even though it's only been a few months since I've seen it, I've almost forgotten the show; I don't think it leaves much of an impression. I don't think it mastered being episodic as well as Cowboy Bebop did, which in my opinion is a superior show of the genre. And tell me about it!! Vash bugged me to no end when he refused to kill and stuff! I'm with you: I get his morality and why he sticks to that ideal, but it got annoying a lot whenever he would fail to kill when it was necessary. I didn't have any issues with the animation, but I will admit that I wasn't paying super good attention xD I love the '90s aesthetic, even though it can be a bit wonky looking haha.
I loved Knives!! He was probably my favorite character behind the hilarious duo of Milly and Meryl (I thought they were adorable lol). I honestly preferred his ideology to Vash's; while Vash's was definitely the better moral choice, Knives owned his villain personality and was always a pleasure to watch when he was onscreen. The super evil villains are always the most fun xD
So how are you enjoying Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex so far?
Haha thanks, hopefully college will work out and I can follow that dream through! And that's awesome that you got your Associate's in music; I'm sure you put in a lot of hard work to get it. It's especially cool that you were able to push through hard times to get that degree. That just makes your accomplishment all the more impressive! Just keep on working your hardest and you'll find the perfect job for you! What kind of job would be your dream job, then, if everything went the way you want it to?
Ahh, you make Rainbow sound so good!! I like that it sounds like it uses the friendship theme to its advantage by portraying it in a serious and realistic way. Now I'm even more excited to try it out one day!!
Oh wow, that's unique, having them speak English (or Engrish for some ;D). How often in the show do they speak English?
So how did you like Trigun?? I saw that you gave it a 7/10 (pretty close to my 6/10), so I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you liked and disliked!
You'll probably love Ghost in the Shell and Monster, then! The Ghost in the Shell has a lot of world-building, and although the character designs are different and the animation isn't as good as the movie's, I think it does a good job of exploring the world and having that crime-thriller feel. Monster, though, was pretty meh for me. It has the mystery aspect to it and the crime drama/thriller atmosphere is cool, but for me it was waaaaay too long. 3/4 of the show could have been omitted and I doubt anything would have changed. The best parts of it for me personally were Johan Liebert (who didn't have nearly enough screen time imo) and Eva Heinemann, the (ex) fiacee of the protagonist, because her character is super entertaining xD I look forward to your thoughts and opinions after watching those shows!!
Having a high average is awesome! It means you're enjoying what you're watching and having a good experience with anime, which I think is great. I used to have a high average, but I guess the more anime I watched the pickier I got lol. (After this summer season ends, my average is going to plummet down xDD) Hopefully you won't find an anime to give a 1, because those are some sour memories haha
