These things happen. I guess my biggest issues were that Phos' development was kind of awkwardly paced, with a huge chunk of it being offscreened between episodes 9 and 10. While I liked her development in that stretch, it was really quick, and the first eight episodes are really slow by comparison, with nothing that I found to be especially memorable. Also, while I think it looks fine in images, as soon as those images start moving there tend to be some major issues. Certainly wasn't bad, but it never clicked like it did for a lot of folks.

Damn, our affinity was sitting at like 94%. Houseki no Kuni seems to have single handedly removed a good 10% from that :P

Hello there, I'm glad a fellow Initial D fan noticed as well!!
Honestly one could criticise the show for a lot of things, but both the races and the OST are so unbelievably hype they make up for all of that.

Favourite race/s? Hmm, the first Takahashi Keisuke vs Takumi (the one that wasn't actually a race with the "KANSEI DORIFTO!?" + No One Sleep in Tokyo BGM),
then there's the Nakazato vs Takumi race ("MASAKA!?!" + Heartbeat BGM),
and last but not least, the quite long and draining Takumi vs Impact Blue race.
As you can see, all of these are from the First Stage, which I absolutely love. I liked the others seasons, but not quite as much and that's why I haven't got around to finishing the series. I definitely will, eventually, but it's not a huge priority for me atm.
