Just to be clear, this is not a prequel. Contrary to what others say, this episode happens around in the latter part of the novels and it's not really important plot-wise. Why did they air this first? No idea. /me facepalms.
Don't judge the show by this episode alone, this is more of a filler episode for the series.
Let's do a brief intro. Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata is about Tomoya Aki who is an avarage otaku and proud of it. Now, he doesn't want to be the consumer anymore, he wants to create his own goods. But he doesn't have a story for his eroge,
...
not until he saw the the most bland girl in his entire life. He now pledges to make that girl into a heroine that everybody will love via eroge. He recuits the 4 girls, makes a game circle to make the ultimate dating sim.
Story: Unfortunately, we don't see any development regarding the plot. What do you expect, it's a fanservice OVA.
Characters: although they represent each of their own archtypes and pander about it, they don't really do anything to move away from the cliche. We may see more developments when we see the anime.
Sound: was good. The OP and ED was catchy though its your generic moe tune. VAs did a good job portraying their characters except for the main character which sounds like any show he's been worked on.
Art: The animation was your typical A-1 production. "More animation and less details". This was actually a wrong move on their part. The source material was famous (aside from the story) for its gorgeous detailed art. So the Light novel fans will be pissed about this. Another side effect of it, well, the show loves close-ups and the result looks really bad. And like any other A-1 works, the 3DCG was obnoxious. May it be hands, falling leaves and vehicles.
All in all, not a bad fanservice episode. Has comedic moments here and there. But if you wanted plot and not PLOT. I suggest avoiding this and watch the main show instead.

Well, an another apartment anime. We've seen lots with the same setting as that, from classics like Maison Ikkoku and Hiatari Ryoko to recent ones like Love Hina, Mahoraba and Sakurasou. Premise doesn't really matter, nothing is original anymore anyways. What's important is how the creators presented it. Will Bokura wa Minna Kawaiso fare differently? Let's check it out.
This premiered at the TBS block which is famous for having ecchi moe series, but suprisingly it's not that moe. To be honest, it's quite mature that this kind of series that should be premiering at noitaminA instead. (and they're showing Nanana there, which is sorta
...
moe so...)
I'm confused Let's continue with the review.
The series starts with a high school boy Kazunari Usa, who wanted to live on his own. His parents saw the perfect place for their son for cheapskates like them. Behold the Kawai Complex! Suprisingly, the senpai he admires at the library lives at the same complex! And his new found place is notorious for having weird inmate-I mean boarders.
-Oh no... They just crossed all the list in my "Things must have in an apartment anime". But like I said, presentation.
A notable thing for this series is it's art. Mind you, ART and not ANIMATION. The color scheme suits for depending on the scenes. The massive use of blur and lens flare worked like a charm. Another thing to praise is their shadings. It really looked like a classic anime (back when they put to much detail in one frame). Animation ranges from normal to lazy.
Thank god the beautiful style makes up for it even if in some scenes it's only talking heads.
Sound was good all through out. From the very memorable opening to the not so memorable but fun ending song. Each sound was used wisely depending in the mood/situation.
The characters are yeah, same cutout characters. We have a sexy office lady that walks in her undies, a weirdo and the list goes on. But what made them special is how they react depending on what situation they're in. They feel human. The humor is either a hit or miss. But it's seldom miss for me xD
Am I being biased or is the author despises men that much? The boys here are portrayed either they're useless or just evil. It's always the girls that solves the problems. I mean, I'm okay with that. But come on, make them do something! Heck, all I know about the other guy in the complex is he's a masochist. That's it. He's even part of the main cast! Sure it's still ongoing but... never mind.
I won't call this the special one of it's genre but it's a good contender. If you want to relax and brighten up your mood. I definitely recommend checking this one out.

Despite the title being Nanana, the show mainly focuses to Yama Juugo, who just moved in to a room with a very cheap rent. Well, it was cheap for a reason, it seems there's a ghost girl that comes with it as a bonus. The ghost's name is Nanana Ryuugajou, who was murdered and It seems her treasures are somehow related to the culprit. Now, it's Juugos job to find who did that to her by finding the treasures! Sounds fun? Well, it is.
This show is unique for it's timeslot, Noitamina.,who is known for having unique series such as Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile and
...
AnoHana. Their target demographic ranges from young adults to adults. So this is new for them since the genre of this series is shonen( young boys) and a light novel to add on that. Don't mistake me, I'm all for experimentations. It seems Noitamina is losing to it's competitor, Animeism. So how did they do? Not really that good.
The plot is unique, as well as the setting but what really took the cake was the ruins. It was really planned out. Though the anime, didn't really do justice on that. (Some ruins are based of concepts but due to time restraints they didnt bother explaining how they solved that.)
The animation is your typical A1 production, Crisp and smooth. The series is notable for its fight scenes (although pretty short!) and there are some hiccups some (they look constipated). There are some uncanny CGs but nothing really to write about. The BG's are well conceptualized(specially the ruins and the buildings in the island). All through out, a pretty well- budgeted show.
Music was okay. The upbeat opening and the ending was suitable for a wacky treasure hunting series like this. The BGM did fine setting the mood of some scenes(ruins part) but some are just plain ridiculous (do your job properly, sound director!)
The characters in this show is…. stereotypical aside from the Juugo( you'll see what I mean) and Tensai(not being bias here). You'll notice it when you see them their character is based from what they look like but weirdly it somehow works. But what really ticked me off was unfortunately the title girl herself, Nanana. She's really unlikeable. And her liking pudding and video games to give her personality is not really working. In the first episode, she asks Juugo to a fight so they can decide who can be the king of the room (which is supposed to be Juugo in the first place since he's the one paying the rent and necessities). Sure, that seems fair, oh wait. She's a ghost. Instaloss right there bud. Heck, without that I can't imagine how Juugo manages to stay a day with her. Despite those(her), the show makes up for it's unique stories and twists.
The hard thing for Noitamina shows are they're always 11 episodes, which can be a double -edged sword. Unfortunately, it didnt work out here.
All in all, the series is enjoyable and wacky suitable for its plot, treasure hunting.

Well first things first, this is some sort of a parody of the harem genre. Hence, not really be taken seriously.
Kanojo flag long name long name tells us about Hatate Sota who can see "flags". These "things" is quite powerful that it can change the fate of any person/ thing who has them. He cannot just see them, but also change the flag! For some reason, he meets up girls until it becomes a full blown harem! (Though this will be explained in the later part of the show.)
Story: 7-8
Come on, it's harem! So don't take it seriously! The show doesn't even hide it.
During
...
the first episodes, it was very fast-paced. I mean, VERY FAST. Can't blame them for that since there's 9 girls in total. As for the ending, though they did explain the flag concept but it's pretty short?
This could've been better if this series was 2- cour. Simlar of the koichoco anime, they built the tension perfectly,
elections and etc. but when the ending came… Yeah.
Characters: 6-7
They are stereotypes of their archtypes except for the Main character who is still generic harem MC# 44310. From cute girls who seems like boomboxing when they run to make it sound quite cute to characters who's a Imouto(not blood related), A useless student council president, an idol, a trap, A loli who's an elder, A robot, A wannabe onee-san who's the same year as MC who always have a laddle for some reason, a forgettable self proclaimed best friend who only appeared in the first episode, you name it. Despite having the same feelings for the Main Character, they are somewhat charming since they are not violent and just lovable.
Art: 7
Art was not bad. Some people complain about the QUALITY faces, but that's not true at all. It's the character designer's fault, the animators has no idea to animate it. Look at the promo images. They look all derpy, but the anime is far from that.
Sound: 9
DAT JAZZY OPENING and that generic ending. Again, the opening is a parody of romance anime that you see during the 90's. Very nostalgic. The BGM was used very carefully for the different moods of the show.
Enjoyment: 7
It wasn't bad but it's not a masterpiece. If you want mindless fun with a huge pile of mood swings and girls! I'd recommend you to try this show. I mean this ain't White Album 2 or Toradora.
For me, this was the dark horse of the Spring season. If you wanted bad harem, check out those with cute anime-like alien deformed mascots.
