I'm listing only Chinese anime and manga here. List started anew 2018-10-03.
Listed anime is watched either subbed or unsubbed, listed manga read only untranslated. Chinese anime that also exist dubbed in Japanese on my list means I watched it in original Chinese.
Applying same rating principles and numerics as to my Japanese cartoon list. If it's shit it's shit, if it's great it's great.
"On Hold" = subs fucking where.
Era of dominant Japanese anime is approaching its end. Population decline inevitable. Consumer base dwindling. Purchasing power now below South-Korea. Less available risk capital. Every season there are more sequels and more adaptations, increasingly less originals. Shows that are so filled with cliches it feels like they are parody of themselves. Japanese anime industry is playing it safe. That in addition to refusal to enter internet age incompetence in developing global internet distribution will kill it.
It is time to let go and move forward to the future. Quality now on-par with Japanese anime, and industry that lives and distributes entirely on the internet, Chinese anime is that future. China is bound to assert certain degree of cultural dominance globally like every large economy. In this aspect China-Japan cultural dynamics are unique in that China is in a position to completely overwrite that global mindshare Japanese culture now has, and among with it, demand for Japanese anime if there is a suitable replacement for it, which Chinese anime is.
My prediction is that by early 2020's, power balance in East-Asian cartoon battle has already tipped in favor of China. Japanese anime will remain fringe enterntainment, just like it has always been.
"Japan is done for in terms of etertainement industry whem compared to the ever growing needs of the market which no longer is direct to the sole stereotypical japanese otaku. With that in mind, China and any other country with a company capable to animate is open to gain a piece of the global market through the use of the internet and by gaining money through advertising and other methods such as click per view and so on. Thus, by doing this, they will in 20 to 30 years, completely dominate the market." - Anon
