Interesting article, the occurrence of tall tales after disasters discussed at the beginning of the article is a phenomenon only helped by the internet instead of harmed. At least, until people work to disprove such rumors. Stepping aside from the topic of solarpunk for a minute, the reason private companies usually keep the advantage to themselves can be explained by information asymmetry. Experts in their field have the capacity to help us, but more often than not also seek to play for their own benefit in a manner that makes it look like we are getting the benefit instead. We are dependent on the technology these corporations provide us, and they take advantage of that.
Now back to solarpunk - one of the factors I need to take into consideration when setting up the world in my story is the science behind a renewable source of energy. I say it's a mix of solarpunk and high fantasy since I'm considering adding supernatural elements to it such as magic, but in a way that at least has an organized system to fall back on.
I'm doing well, though I have exams coming up this month. I'm practicing for a speech exam where I have to perform a declamation piece.
My long-term planned series is a mix of steampunk/solarpunk and high fantasy that draws inspiration from primarily Norse mythology. It's set far in the post-apocalyptic future where nature has retaken remnants of human civilization. With that, mythological or supernatural creatures have retaken Earth in humanity's place, but a chance for humans to come back once again is a secret hidden under the ground. Do humans deserve another chance after ruining Earth so thoroughly long ago? That is one of the questions.
Shorter-term, in an urban red light district lives a tattoo artist whose patrons range from the normal humans with a wish for a price and monsters seeking something. With her lives a young boy who one day glimpses his caretaker's true nature...
Oh? Which threads, lol? I don't feel like I was being very nice in some of those lately. Thanks for the FR though, nice to meet a fellow fantasy genre fan who loves Gaiman and Tolkien. :) I played DDLC blind and had a blast. XD
And thanks for those kind words. I have two ideas that I am working on and I may publish one online as a side project and online novel. The other is my longer-term fantasy series.
Sorry i have been swamped with finals! Hmm, its hard to make recommendations! I think based on what you are looking for you should really checkout season 2 of Natusme's book of friends! I liked it more than s1. Less relaxing but more mysterious i would say Shinsekai yori, im not sure if it made me feel deeply, but I was definitely immersed in the world!
In all honesty im not sure exactly what im looking for, im pretty open to anything. Maybe a short series focused on its characters and an overarching theme like pingpong had? Or maybe a mystery?
Im definitely interested in recommendations! Planetes is really good but I think i like it on more of a personal level, one of those shows that you watch at the perfect time in your life and it just fits. For recommendations hmmmmm, maybe Nodame cantabile, Shinsekai Yori, HxH, really depends on what you are looking for!
My review for it is in the top 4 spot if you want a detail rundown on why I loved it. But in a nutshell, it's one of the most poignant dramas with fully realized characters I've seen in anime since Nana.
