I took fifty years to write back! I'm sure this isn't shocking tho XD! I've been busy af... school, switching jobs, blablablabla adult shit. XD But yush, writing back mode! XD

I haven't read the novels!!! I need to buy them ;;. I remember I read parts of the novels before they got published here, when there were fan translations floating about here and there. But that isn't the same as siting down and reading the whole thing! I'll try to get my hands on them, myself (helloooo Amazon) and cry to you about the feels over the summer! I can't wait to have more free time! XD Oh annnd I'm doing CADD (computer aided draft and design). It's certainly not my DREAM, but I need to get out of retail and make more money, sooo I went for something reasonable *shrugs*!

Isn't being an adult so shitty? XDDD All it is is having to make money with jobs that are okay-ish at best, and WANTING to go back to school to do something else or something more, but not being able to because MONEY! XD Smh! What kind of job do you have, though?? I think you got your degree in English?? I'd love to do that someday... because I still have a silly pipe dream about being an editor for a comic book company or something lol. My huge problem with writing is... I hate writing non-fiction... Even on topics that DO interest me! So my interest in English is strictly on a nerdy level -_-;;.

Also jfc!!!!! 8 years O_O! We were babies then omfg! ;A;! Siigh I miss those carefree days when the biggest worries were what was coming up next in Pandora Hearts~! XD

is that quite from pandora hearts that is on top of ur profile?
myautumngalaxy Mar 21, 2017 1:15 PM
You being nostalgic makes ME feel nostalgic! Your damn profile picture just smacked me in the feels and now I want to reread Pandora Hearts despite having little to no time to sit down and read XD! The most I have time to do is throw a crappy dub on in the background while I chip away at my school work XD! I've been good, though!! I hope you have been, too??

Now MAL actually gives you freaking notifications when you get comments and such, where was this feature years ago when I was actually active af on here? XD You're only a little confused and fuzzy on some details? I just finished it and some stuff is still just so damn confusing to me XD! I mean, I get it, but I don't think I could properly explain to someone what goes on in the series?? If that makes sense? At least, not in detail... A lot of the Core, Alice, Alyss, Lacie stuff honestly has me constantly like 'eh?' When I read it I can follow it, but no way in hell did I properly understand all of that XD! Anyway, gah gah gah the last few chapters were all so damn emotional... That "dream" sequence where they got their tea party, and everyone was happy TAT! Gil waiting all that time to meet up with them again... Vincent saying he was glad he was there, wtfwtfwtf everything was so bittersweet and I'm dead D:!

Oh gosh, yeah, the art looks gorgeous af from the images I've seen! I'll be starting that one soon <33. I love that she is doing steampunk, but gdi, why another confusing series? XDD Oooh the main character? He does look a lot like Leo now that you mention it... wtf XD!

haha, ok Clio-chan :)
I also like more people to chat with, it's fun really :D

well, I watch mostly Harem animes, and also many Action animes, specially with gore scenes (for example Ga-Rei:Zero and Akame Ga Kill)
what about you?
fortuna89 Apr 25, 2016 7:17 AM
thanks for accepting Onee-chan :)

I never saw this comment because I never look down????? wtf! Anyway! I haven't started Mochizuki's new series yet becauseeeeeee I haven't finished Pandora Hearts yet lmfao. I recently bought the volume because, okay. Basically, I was like a kid not wanting to believe my fave series was over, so I told myself I wouldn't read the last few chapters until the last volume came out. Thennnnnnnn when I finally bought it, I wanted to read the whole series over again before the end - so from start to finish since I own all the volumes now. So this month I slowly started reading through them. Yes, I know, I'm five and I drew this out way more than need be but -sigh- I couldn't help eeeet! XD Anyway! How did you like her new series so far?? I can scream with you once I read it, because I def will get to it! The art is gorgeous, as expected, from what I've seen >w<;. And I hope you're doing well toooooooo! I've just been saving up money from working sigh sigh sigh lol.

wow, i found a rare Onee-chan here :D
Deibiddo88 Apr 6, 2016 2:29 PM
Don't worry about it. I completely understand.
I also took my time, now, because I wanted to be able to take the time to write a proper response to your comment.

I also don't know many people that are that much into anime.
Most give it little credit, like I used to, just a while back, before giving another chance and finding out how much more it had to offer than Dragonball, Pokemon (which I very much enjoyed as a kid) or Sailormoon. I mean... I had experiences with Rurouni Kenshin and Evangelion but, frankly, I believe I was too young to fully comprehend and appreciate them more than just for the visual "coolness", at that time.
And then there is the smaller group of people around me that watch anime but are mostly dedicated to the likes of One Piece or Naruto. Don't get me wrong... I do not despise it, exactly, since I've never even watched it, but I currently have to exclude animes with episode numbers with more than 2 digits.

I really liked Eva, although I didn't love it as much because I felt the ending was a bit "over the top", for me. :\
But right until the last few episodes, I really liked it, even though I had some issues with Shinji's character.

Bebop was awesome! I didn't know that, and I definitely don't think it aged badly at all. As a story and, at the same time, an episodic tv show, it's brilliant. It has a great soundtrack, great writing, great animation... I would understand if someone said that about Berserk, though. I also absolutely loved Berserk (for everything... I just have mixed feelings about the soundtrack), and I actually also like the drawing style very much, but I understand that, animation-wise, it can feel a bit "heavy" and not so fluid, which I can see being interpreted as if it were a product of technical limitations of that time (even though, just as an example, Bebop is just one year older and it has great, fluid animation).

Uh. Samurai Champloo is also awesome, so far! It gets to surprise me at every episode. It's really funny and has a great, interesting story with compelling characters at the same time. And it's presented in such a great mood. Also, I have to talk about the animation, too... so great. It's also visually very inspiring. And yes, it goes to some darker places, sometimes, even though it's so well balanced with great lighter ones. Also, Nujabes' work is just so great and helps Champloo be even better!
In this sort of thematics, I will also be watching Afro Samurai once I finish Champloo.

Well, I'm the one who's sorry for my ignorance. :P
And do hit me with the terminology. That way I'll really have to learn it. Don't worry. I'll ask if I don't understand something. Thanks!
Well, right now I can't definitely say that I like this or that genre better. So far, I've been liking and disliking things in different genres and when I dislike it, usually, it's not because of a genre (I think), but because of the story or how it was presented. Like Kids on the Slope, which at the beginning had some quite interesting characters being built up and I also like the jazz when they happened to give it some "screen time", but then I think the script got worse and worse and it became so soap opera-ish...

If you haven't, you should definitely check out Ping Pong (me suggesting you an anime... somehow I feel this is wrong, as a kohai trying to give advice to his senpai... o.O). I totally get what you're saying and if you already like the art style, I think you'll really enjoy the anime, because the story is, in my opinion, the best thing about it.
And I understand, yes. Well, that happens a lot in other media, so I guess anime wouldn't be different. It happens in books, movies, tv... If a formula works, producers try to replicate and copy it as much as they can until people get fed up.
And yes! One-Punch does so many things brilliantly and, one of them, is kind of re-invent that "typical" action genre (of which I obviously know just a few examples, like Dragonball and such). And also making fun of itself and of some of anime's silly "habits", without obviously disrespecting the media. It's also so fresh and funny...

That's good! Because these comments tend to get bigger as the conversation becomes more and more interesting. And I can totally see it happen with you. I get excited and I write a lot... :P

Hi, there! Thank you for accepting the friend request.
As I am now making my way in the Anime world, I really wanted some people to show me around, give some advice and share some knowledge and experience. Plus, it's good and fun to have some people to maybe discuss some of the things I'll be watching.

As for the examples you named, some of them were watched when I was younger, and not properly and "religiously", so I intend to re-watch some of those. I have re-watched Eva recently (slightly prior to my arrival at MAL) and watched Bebop just recently, last year, even though it's a classic (and a damned good one! :D ).

I look at the sea of promising anime I have in front of me with a mix of overwhelming fear (of never being able to watch it all) and excitement. :P

In all honesty, I am still trying to learn those names and categories, but I guess most are what you said, yes. But I am surely open to other genres. In fact, as generic and non-helpful as I understand this may sound, I am open to trying good ones, no matter the genre. I tend to like when the anime is visually appealing, well drawn and animated... but I am looking to, most importantly, watch interesting stories, with good characters and mostly to discover really well-made animes.

I've been watching Ping Pong The Animation, in these last days, and so far it has been really nice. The drawing style is weirdly different from what I'm used to seeing in anime, surely, but I love the "watercolour" feel and surely love the animation!
Plus, the story is really interesting and, as an artist trying to make it in the industry, this kind of story totally resonates with me (just like what I loved about One-Punch Man, that also felt to me so much as a metaphor for the struggle to be the best artist one can be, simply put).

Again, thank you.
And I'm sorry for the length of the text (and, in advance, for any mistake that you may find in my English).

I think it's a good thing also! The one aspect that can ruin it is that you can't actually be able to really get to know and have a deeper knowledge about one specific genre. But I prefer to have a broader knowledge and get to enjoy the good things each one has to offer. I've only started watching anime less than two years ago and so, yeah, I decided to start with the classics! :P At least with those is more probable to enjoy them than not. Of course that doesn't always work out in my favor, ahah Thankfully it's not my only factor.

I agree with you completely on disliking overused tropes and stereotypes; it saddens me to see that most of anime falls into this category. It's easier to follow a recipe you know it's gonna get you your money back than to actually create something unique. That's why I like the risky types of anime as well. Of course that doesn't mean they're all good. You should really check Masaaki Yuasa's work out! Now there's an example of an unique style of anime and storytelling that works. At least for me it does xD You could start with Ping Pong the Animation or Tatami Galaxy. They're both only 11 episodes long and so it wouldn't be such a waste of time in case you end up disappointed.

Again... I'm the queen of all delays! So, so sorry. Things have seriously been crazy around here. I'm almost always too tired to type when I get the chance to do it. Hope everything's ok with you in that side of the globe. I'm actually kind of jealous! If and when you decide to give mister Yuasa's work a chance, please let me know what you think. ^-^
CrystalAnn Jan 3, 2016 8:06 AM
Hi there! First of all, I must apologize for my mega-ultra-delayed answer. Things have been crazy busy around here ^-^'
That's a fairly interesting question. I don't think I have a specific type of anime that I prefer. Some are enjoyable, fun, really well made with great action sequences and so are worthy of my time and appreciation (Fullmetal Alchemist, Brotherhood, Baccano, Attack On Titan, Afro Samurai, etc). Others are a little more profound and artistic and offer us experiences that most movies/ series (in general) don't (Ghost In The Shell, Akira, Angel's Egg; Memories, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, etc). Others offer us simple stories with deeper meanings and the most interesting characters (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Berserk, Samurai Champloo, Mushishi, Ping Pong The Animation). Others excell in suspence (Mononoke; all from Satoshi Kon). A good interesting animation is always a plus, of course.

It's really hard to be more precise or have a recipe of what makes an anime good for me. I think immersion is one of the most important aspects to be achieved whilst watching any type of cinematographic work. I think we can be able to find quality through any kind of anime.
Now I can't help but to ask you that same question. Do you have a specific type of anime you enjoy above all others?

Thank you so much for accepting my friend request. It'll be great learning what I can from your experience. I must apologize for my poorly trained english, as it is not my first language. Hope 2016 started more than well for you. Cheers from a random portuguese girl!
