Your review for hotarubi was good. Idk why people are saying otherwise lol
I agree with literally everything you said. It wasn't a good film.....so thank you for putting it into words!
(even if people dont agree with what you said...i fail to see how your review was bad)
Call me dumb if you will, but I didn't know that Gin was going to "die," so I'm not sure you can say that your assessment of Hotarubi no Mori e applies to everyone else. Albeit, I admit you have your point, and it stands. Because if you expected him to pass away, then your hindsight bias is automatically justified. But I could not disagree more with your claim that the show lacked buildup and emotion. You did not watch the anime with the perception of being engaged with the characters and the story, and that shows in your annoyance about the movie. You mentioned your annoyance several times in your review, which was, ironically, annoying.
The mentioning of Gin's potentiality of disappearing is a crucial element that augments the protagonist's -but more importantly, the viewer's- sense of longing for intimate physical connection. If you allowed yourself room for emotional engagement, rather than using that room for cynicism, then you would've experienced the buildup and emotion like most other people.
