My earliest exposure to anime were the movies Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Ninja Scroll. At the time I was too small to understand what anime even was but those movies definitely shaped my early personal taste. Years later, I became reintroduced to anime with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Watching that series at 14 years old was a real trip. I developed a liking for shows with psychological themes. Serial Experiments Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Haibane Renmei, and FLCL became my favorites. After my little boom period ended I became less interested but it had already done a lot to affect my interest in other forms of entertainment, namely music and video games (I love JRPGs! Dragon Quest!, Final Fantasy!, Shin Megami Tensei!, Etrian Odyssey!, Pokemon, Mother!).

Although I don't actively watch anime anymore, unless something is strongly recommended, I am still pretty infatuated with the culture of Japan in general. The "me" on the outside doesn't talk about anime or Japan. I'm very much a closeted fan.
