I clicked on your profile after seeing your Durarara!! review and noticed you are one of the few who doesn't have superficial conversations on the internet. I like that.
I most definitely was on tenterhooks! I have been feeling better thanks, but I've been busy with work instead. I think I just prefer Civil over Hostile in general really, it works out better for everyone.
I think when I said "it's just a lie" regarding reinvention, I mean that acting differently to how you really are is just deceptive. If you truly want to change how you are, and choose to do so on the internet, I guess that isn't a lie. I think when you go somewhere new and meet complete strangers there's always the possibility to start over, to try and come across differently, create a better first impression without your past getting in the way. I suppose the internet can be that somewhere new.
Actually you're right, Nostalgia over pleasant memories is problematic. Memories of a better time. Happy memories that you may never create again.
You go to bed early? Pfft, night time is clearly the best time of day!
Talking one-on-one over dark beer sounds fun. I'd enjoy that. I think I spend too much time drinking far too much that I throw up.
Having looked up on wikipedia what Bentham's panopticon is, I now understand. And I see what you mean, it sort of makes sense, but nobody can truly reinvent themselves as a different person on the internet can they? I suppose you can adopt a different character or personality, but then it's just a lie isn't it? It just seems that there's a larger proportion of people without pictures of themselves on here than other sites. Is that because they're not embarrased to put geeky anime pictures up, or that they're more embarrassed of their physical appearance or true self here. Or maybe it's because they feel it's not appropriate or required for them to show themselves to the people they meet here. Oh well, I'm thinking about it too much!
Nostalgia is one of those things you do have to be careful with. It can be wonderful, but can send you to a bad place if you let it. I find if you look at the bad things in another way it helps.
Anime often takes up the hours of maybe 11.30pm to 2am. Sometimes much more, sometimes none at all. Other than that I'm finishing off my degree in Civil Engineering. I'm guessing you study Philosophy or Literature, or something like that? I actually just returned to college today. I was ill yesterday so delayed my return. Exams soon :S. I also enjoy music, both listening and playing. I like to keep active, but I'm not brilliant at sport. I love to draw, I think I'm quite good, but never have enough time for it. And what do you do when you aren't watching anime?
This message ended up being rather long!
Oh, we're last.fm friends and twitter followers. Woo!
I know what you mean. It's mutual respect, but that's where it ends, which isn't interesting.
And wow, that's a very perceptive interpretation of my profile! I like to think that's true. Experiences are what make us who we are, we wouldn't be the same without our memories. Nostalgia is a beautiful thing.
I'm impressed that you have a picture of yourself (/Eruka) on your profile. Not many people do, I don't understand why.
