Promare is exactly what you would expect from a full-length movie from Trigger. It's insane, it's colorful, it's exciting, it's pure distilled hype. However, if you walk into this movie expecting any good character writing or cohesion, you will likely be disappointed, as the plot is largely an excuse for the over the top visuals. The side characters don't really show up after the first fight. I will say that this movie should absolutely be seen in a theater if you have the means to. The visuals and soundtrack create emotion where the script cannot. I was always smiling and entranced by the film, ... although the action was kind of hard to follow at times.

This show, sadly, is uncannily similar to Twilight. Unlike Twilight, however, the people who worked on this clearly cared for the source material and put love and care into its adaptation, so it already comes out ahead in that regard.

Despite the good art and genuinely magical-feeling world, where this show falls flat is its basic premise. There is simply no getting around how hilariously abusive and manipulative the romance in this show is. The age and power gap, as well as Chise's "status" as a powerful magical item of sorts just kinda come across creepy, and this is all before taking into account that she's ... a slave bride of sorts. She gets a fair amount of freedom and the new life is surely better than what she had before, but it still gives me the heebie jeebies.

In addition to the abusive undertones, there is no dramatic tension whatsoever. A lot of allies introduce themselves in the worst possible way only to immediately apologize and reveal that no, I did not kidnap you, I was just... kidnapping you to mess around a bit. No, I'm not actually gonna drown you, it's part of the plan. That kind of thing. It would have been better to focus on the relationship instead of very contrived-feeling obstacles.

This show is well made. It really is. But it can't overcome its fundamental flaws. If you can overlook its flaws, it's almost kinda cleansing and cozy, but I could not. The best parts about this show are when there is no plot and magic things just happen.

This show is a seasonal shonen. It is completely generic in its characters, overarching story, and the beats of the fights. So why am I giving it a high score?

Well, for starters, it's incredibly well made with tasteful CGI that only enhances where it's used. The art is fantastic, and the animation is fluid with the action scenes being easy to follow. I don't think I can overstate how good it feels to see and hear the swords swing or the characters run and jump.

The characters themselves are simple tropes; Tanjiro is a good guy and a hard worker who seeks revenge as a ... result of tragedy and wants to help his sister. Pig mask dude is a sole survivor who somehow got really strong. Zenitsu is an insecure wimp who has incredible power when he has no choice but to turn and fight. I expect that they'll learn to team up better, and I'm sure they'll get more depth, but they're still relatively cookie cutter.

Everything plot-wise is predictable, but at least there are no ass-pulls to win fights; rules are generally well established. Praise also has to be given for not dragging out any of the arcs. It goes heavy on exposition despite clearly showing things, but this can be forgiven.

This show is just really fun to watch. It doesn't say anything profound, but it is a great time.

I feel like having to justify a 6 here. This show is alright. It is nothing significant, and that is ok. It is fluffy and light, and that is ok.

The animation is amazing; KyoAni never fails to deliver, even in slice of life comedies. Fight scenes, although sparse, are fluid and dynamic, as are the movements of characters as they perform actions such as cooking or cleaning.

It's all made with a ton of love and care, so what are the problems?

Well, the relationship between Kobayashi and Tohru is very... weird. Chalk it up to just being anime, but it really does get creepy at ... times. That power dynamic isn't balanced. Lucoa and Shouta as well, for obvious reasons. There's some really uncomfortable pedolphiliac undertones in this show. It really does sour my enjoyment despite the overall enjoyment I have of the wholesome slice of life/fish out of water comedy that makes up the bulk of the content. This show is good for seasoned anime watchers, but seriously, I wouldn't let anyone catch me watching this.

My high score is largely owed to knowing the impact the show has made and my personal experiences with it.

This show is not perfect. A lot of things are poorly explained, not explained at all, or exist solely to be cool and edgy (looking at you, crucifix explosions). But it has a grand sense of scale and accurately examines from several angles the grip of depression on the mind while starting out as a rather simple "kids get in robots and fight monsters" show. That being said, this show is a journey, and it's held up well over the years. The way the tension and ... scale creep up gives that splendid dread that comes with knowing that the worst is yet to come. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but this show is awesome and definitely a must-see for anyone willing to give cartoons a chance as a medium where a serious story can be told.

My only issues are with the fact that the series was clearly unfinished due to mismanagement, which seriously hampers the ending, although this is more than remedied by the End of Evangelion.

Bunny Girl Senpai is a mixed bag of sorts, at least for me. It would be a lie to say I didn't enjoy the show a lot, but there are some flaws I'd like to address.

First, the good parts: Mai and Sakuta are considerate, empathetic, and communicative. There's no lame misunderstandings or unreasonable demands in this relationship. And that's awesome. The premise of the show is also quite good: insecurities manifesting as supernatural phenomena isn't the most original thing in the world, but it's a great premise nonetheless, and easy to work with.

The bad: Kaede being sort of a brocon. Doesn't need any explaining as ... to why I think that's weird and unnecessary.

Sakuta isn't perfect, but he's bizarrely flawless. I'd say he finds success in almost everything he does, which can be a bit weird.

Also, only encountering female victims is... also weird. Sakuta's experience with the syndrome isn't explored too much, presumably because of the movie which will likely focus on him and Shoko, but I'd like to see more male victims just because boys and girls face different insecurities as a result of the differing standards of society.

Pacing also was kinda weird. Futaba's arc felt fast, and I felt that Kaede's arc somewhat dragged.

Overall, this show has great character design, a good atmosphere, and a likable cast despite a few nitpicks. But I still think it was a good show and worth most people's time. Then again, I haven't seen Monogatari so maybe I'll suddenly think this is bad in comparison.
