I agree with your Kaiji review. I didn't even get to finish it, I can't bring myself to get through the second part. As soon as I saw the balancing on bars episode I was out.

But honestly, what bugged me the most is that I just can't make something good of it, and I don't mean this in the sense of the shows quality. Psychological shows are supposed to make you think, to give you a new perspective or to play with your mind, and while most are rather dark there should always be room for interpretation. Kaiji never intends to make you think but is entirely focused on showing you the ugly sides of humanity. It reminds me of Goethes Faust which I also heavily disliked for the sheer cynicism and bitterness in it.

So the question rises "Why bother?" Am I supposed to hate the world now? Should I feel better about myself for thinking of smarter life decisions than Kaiji? Should I never trust anyone who's in a pinch? Should I first and foremost think of myself? This is the clear direction Kaiji is going for, but it answers those questions and doesn't give you room to react. The world is grey, not pitch black. That's what Kaiji doesn't get IMO and I too hate the concept of rich people finding pleasure in torturing the defenseless.

Btw, the butthurt Kaiji fans in your comment section are hilarious. I can definitely see why many people are prejudiced towards anime fans just from this fiesta.

Couldn't agree more with your Kaiji review. Starting from the "human rally" arc, I thought I was watching an animated version of the Saw movies. Though it isn't a bad series, the sadistic content and overwhelming pessimism really left a negative impression on me. I've been told that the second season is pure gaming gambling, with no people agonizing in pain and dying, so I guess I'll give it a shot.

Yeah they do, to the point that they even make up things about said anime that they have a problem with. You didn't do that with yours regarding Kaiji, though. :) Imo I don't think the negative review below yours did so either.

It's a shame you didn't like the series, but it was very understandable with how you've felt. Nothing that you've pointed out as a gripe was made-up like reviews usually are here, and you've explained yourself well. :)
