This is incredible. Thank you Kyoani for this masterpiece of an anime. *pretty much spoiler free, I marked where there are spoilers so don't read those parts.*
I don't write reviews, but Clannad After Story left a huge impact on me, more than anything I have ever seen in my whole entire life. First of all, it is beautiful. The art and the soundtrack are incredible and really make the show even better than it already is. At first, the animation style seems a little old, but after a while, I started to prefer Clannad's animation style over modern day anime. The art for backgrounds is

absolutely amazing and I really did not expect less from Kyoto Animation.
Next, the story. I don't think I have ever seen something so intriguing, so suspenseful, so heartbreaking then Clannad. I won't spoil anything, but lemme just tell you, if you are thinking abut watching this, please say I didn't warn you. This was the only show to ever make me shed a tear, and im a degenerate who really enjoys sad anime, so I've seen a lot.
After that are the characters. This is one of the rare occurrences where I found that I actually love every single character on a show. I really appreciated the fact that the show dedicated time to every single individual character and I loved how much they grew and matured towards the end, especially Tomoya. I believe that you don't even have to like the main characters in order to really enjoy this anime because there is always a different character that you can relate to. Every single one of their stories is very well done. I personally didn't like Nagisa in Clannad, but my opinion took a turn in Clannad After Story. The show does such a good job building bonds between the person watching and the characters.
There are a couple of minor issues that I'd like to address. No show is perfect, after all. Clannad leaves a few plot holes that are answered in the visual novel. *SPOILERS DON'T READ* Episode 22 was kind of confusing and left the watcher to interpret his/her's own meaning, but it was explained in the visual novel. Basically Tomoya collected a bunch of weird friendship orbs from helping his friends achieve happiness. Those orbs are used for wishes. Remember when Akio brought Nagisa on the hill and when Misae asked Iforgothisname to love her forever? Tomoya basically wished for Nagisa, Ushio, and himself to live happily ever after. This ending was a little iffy in my opinion and I feel like there could have been an even better way to end it better. Not that I'm saying I didn't like the ending, it just seemed kind of forced, you know? Like they didn't know what to do and didn't want it to have a sad ending so they made up a happy one. *END OF SPOILERS*
Conclusion: I loved Clannad After Story. It really tugs at your heartstrings and is not like most tragedy anime I've seen. It is sad, but beautiful. Bittersweet is a good way to describe it. I must say that this show is one of the best anime I have ever seen. It's sad, funny, and sweet. If you actually took the time to read this incredibly long review, I commend you.
