I have heard Kaiji is great and similar to those shows! However the animation style, while not BAD in my opinion, doesn't make it seem like it could be a serious anime like those! But I've been wrong before!

Oh, MAN! If you haven't already, you NEED to watch that show called The Good Place! It's on Netflix. I'm not going to spoil what it is about or anything, but there's an anime on your top ten list that reminds me quite of it, actually (which is one of my absolute favorite anime, as well)! You must check it out! :D

Hey thats awesome too. I personally think Ping pong is a lot better since tatami is not for me but its also a good series.

Kanji's mangaka is a genius. going to read all his works one day. it would be easier if there was a new anime for all these manga series

I was going to recommend Ashita no joe but you already started it. its old but its masterpiece. its the best sports anime just in front of ping pong. both are similar because the sport is just a tool for the main character's growth and also about their life story. Yabuki joe will probably become one of your fave characters in general.
I also recommend Tatami galaxy and like ping pong its from the same director. both series are underrated.
if you liked Haikyuu then i suggest checking out Ace of diamond and slam dunk. ace of diamond is like a modern slam dunk and its also similar to haikyuu but imo it has more realistic characters because its not from shounen jump, so the writing can be more flexible. Slam dunk is just a classic shounen with memorable characters.

As for manga, Buraiden Gai and the strongest legend kurosawa are both written by the author of Kaiji. all of his series are psychological or philosophical. worth a read.
20th century boys and pluto are from the author of Monster and all his works are amazing.

I recommend you Texhnolyze and Ergo Proxy. such a masterpieces but they have a slow and very complex development, that's why its recognition and valorization is down

genres of both: seinen, psychological, sci-fi in a cyberpunk and depressing world.
