I think this anime is completely overrated, there are some good things about it, the quality of the drawing is pretty good, is pleasant to watch, overall, it does not have much movement or animations like other anime, so they can focus on vital scenes and get a good quality. The whole premise is interesting and makes you feel like it's going to be a 'smart' show, some good guys outsmarting a big organization, but it fells flat.
The whole series relies on convenience to move forward and it's filled with contradictions and nonsense, that I cannot forgive since the whole point of the show is
...
to be good at telling a story, it's not like a fighting anime, the narrative is what matters. But you end up seeing people that the show has depicted as fully convicted on their beliefs, making a 180º turn after just one conversation, because it's good for the plot.
The show is set in medieval europe, XV century or so, with the church ruling and geocentrism model being supported by it. It tells that the church prosecutes other beliefs like heliocentrism as heretic, those who research it are tortured and executed, this kind of things didn't really happen, so you can think that it's not historically accurrated, but later in the show they explain that the whole thing was not an official posture of the church, just some local powermonguer that didn't like heliocentrism for some reason, and that the executions made by the inquisition weren't formally sanction, they were made in secrecy and such, that they are going to hide it all, so maybe it pretends to be accurate, don't know.
Thing is, this premise, and other things, are nonsensical to the things we see on the plot, for once, in the beginning we actually see people getting executed in public, with the villagers gathering, and the mc being on a public trial, it's like they changed their mind in the middle of the season. You also got a lot of characters that are supposed to be nobles and scholars, they got access to books and knowledge not only from times past, but from the surrounded areas as well, if the prosecutions and executions of helicentrism were only made in a local region, they should know it and just.....move away if they want to research. If the story were about peasants with no access to knowledge, ok, the moment you involve scholars, makes no sense.
Another example of nonsensical writting, one of the plots ends up being resolved by a child talking to an old man, the son of the powermonger who executed everyone, and convincing him in a couple of sentences that the church doesn't really have to prosecute heliocentrism, and he realizes that it was all his father doing, et voila. Also, he is an old man and is convinced to publish tons of heliocentrism books to sell to the people because it would be profitable, why? The show also makes a point in showing that people doesn't know how to read, there's really no profit in that, and why would the people like to hear stories about astrophysics instead of a mythological greek one?
Nonsensical, filled with convenience disguised as deep and smart.

I really liked the first season, but this sequel is just subpar. It hardly feels like you are watching anime, there's tons of instances in where nothing happens, or things in screen are barely moving, wide angles with just one thing moving in one corner, or close angles in which the character only has his mouth animated, or at most, have a loop animation.
It is jarring seeing scenes in which something is set up, like someone fighting 1v1, and the next frame, they basically teleport to other place and things completely change, with no transition, just because it happens. There's tons of dialogue explaining what's
...
happening all the time, instead of don't tell, show, this is, don't show, tell. That's not anime, that's more like an audio book.
The plot also seems forced and with little sense, not that the first season was a written masterpiece, but here things happens all the time because of the plot, characters do crazy things all the time, like going against the most powerful associations, with no consequence, someone is dealing with it in the back. At least in the first season there was attempts of explain a cover up, and the villains had some sense, they acted cautiously, here they just go head on, and they fight each other in the middle of a fight, they ally with the heroes and tons of bizarre things.
It got some good moments, but overall, it's not enjoyable. The things in the plot that could be interesting seems to be ruined by the lack of transitions or explanations and the fights don't feel like they are doing anything, some tactics, some special moves.....it's not organic.

The animation of this season is pretty much non existent. Feels like 5 fps or less. Most of the scenes are just frozen frames with dialogues, and when there's an animation most of the time is just one element on the scene, like the ball or lips moving in a frozen scene.
It moves forward with dialogue mostly, you don't see the plays, just see the faces of the characters telling you "he slip from behind· or something.
There's also a very few scenes in which they move like 3D animated and feels weird, they also don't do much in those, move a few steps and such.
The
...
source material is good, so it's still ok, but as an anime does not feel very animated.
It's supposed to be one of the big featured anime of the season so it does not live to the hype with this kind of production.

Simply put, this is not Goblin Slayer.
First seaon of Goblin Slayer would always remain a legend, a kind of unique concept, showing realism in it's more crude and brutal reality of a world where monsters exist and people need monster killers to survive. Monster killers, who are either naive adventurers who get a grip on reality, the bad way, or just survivors, who have lost innocence and have motivations against those beings. We get to see this following the story of the goblin slayer, who turns out to be a very smart and interesting character. The season is about exploring this character and some of
...
his relations.
Season 2 however, lacks of any of the elements that made Season 1 great. It lacks the crudeness and realism of the first one. It tones down a lot od the darkness and gore, to make it look more like just another generic fantasy anime with monsters. The animation is bad, it focuses and introduces on other characters who are very uninteresting. Things that made the slayer appear smart are traeted like tropes, there's no real tactics or thought behind the fights, they are very simple and bland. There's really nothing interesting to explore, and there's also nothing flashy that confuses you into thinking you are watching some cool anime.
As it stands, it's like a 5/10 anime, but seeing where it stood, the rank goes to the ground.

It's a very creative parody anime. The mc is just a man born without magic power in a magic world. Since he does not have magic, he improves his muscles to such a degree, he's able to do things that look like magic, and face incredible spells. Does not matter if you send a tsunami against him, he'll just do a punch or something and send water to space if needs to.
The way he handles against different types of magic, test and so on is very creative and absurd. Since it's a parody, it's fun to see the op mc do weird stuff. All the
...
people is also weird to an excess, this is not a serious anime.
Animation is not top notch, but it got nice things and easy to watch.

Good thing to say about the show: Good production quality, if you like good animated scenes and nothing else, you probably like it.
Bad things: Writting, characters, plot....
This is yet another anime with an op main characte, though this time they try to sell you he made an effort....for one episode.
The setting of the anime is the world being invaded by magic forces, and some people are chosen, given powers, to fight against them, medieval fantasy rpg style, but those powers never change, there are people who got ton of power and others very little, no mater how much they train, their power don't grow. Not
...
a great start with such contriction in the premise.
The mc turns out to be the weakest warrior ever, he's bassically useless in the battle, but puts an effort, needs money. The show starts with a random event in which many people dies, including the mc, but he comes back with a new power, that acts like the world is a videogame, he can manage magic inventory, got quests, etc.
This powers allows him to become stronger by completing quests, killing enemies....The issue is that is INCREDIBLE op, he bassically comes from being the weakest of all, to be able to defeat bosses that dozens of warriors at the same time cannot even harm, IN ONE DAY.
He also get's special items and many things that makes him so powerful. So, the premise of him being weak and leveling up does not really last, he just becomes stronger in one day. Boring.
The fact that he has a special power noone haves send also a bad message, "no matter how much effort you put, if you are nos special/lucky, it won't matter".
Just the typical show with the op mc, there's like 5 of them every season, the only good ones are parodies, like One Punch or Mashle, if you try to be serious, is boring.

This anime is pretty funny and entertaining, but sadly it does not go further than your typical shonen in terms of narrative. The aniation is top notch, another great work from the studio. Music is also very nice and modern.
The issues I got with it is the plot, you can see in the beggining is not really well thought, don't think this is spoiler, they create a ranking from monsters fro 1 to 4, 1 being strongest, and a blurred special category reserved for monsters incredible powerful. That category is broken since they are monsters above monsters.
Well, the protagonist and his friends are learning the
...
craft, it's their first year in the academy, and you would expect them to face against low level monsters, but in reality things escalate quickly and it's all special monsters all the way. Typical shonen escalation, the characters start having issues fightting low level monsters and 2 episodes later they are bashing against the strongest.
I wish they got more into the progression, start with low level and going up. They bassically already broken in 2 episodes all the ranking, and are stronger than most of all the society members after baerly trained for a few months.
Just punches and not much thoughts as always.
