For your question in my blog entry "Kanon rankings" about how the theme songs, the ones that I was referring to are the ones in the "TV Animation Edition Kanon Sound Track Volume 1" (for the 2002 adaptation by Toei). As far as I can tell, they are the same theme songs as the ones in the 2006 adaptation by KyoAni.

I am glad that you enjoyed Kanon (2006). If you want to watch something similar, then there is Clannad. Like Kanon (2006), it is also an adaptation of a Key Visual Novel by Kyoto Animation. Not only that, it also has a second season (After Story) which just began airing a couple of days ago.

However, whereas Kanon focused more on drama, Clannad is more about comedy.

My favorite scene was the part when Chihiro decided to tear out all the pages from her diary and throw them away. I thought that scene was visually stunning.
