Shelter is, basically, a condensate of every single element of tear-jerk shows, sad videos and others things like this.
That's not the main problem but it's still something that keep bothering me.
Some people tends to say that something very sad is a synonym to perfection.
Ok then, let me try something.
If Shelter wasn't a sad story about sad things in life, would you rate it this high ?
It seems like some people just doesn't want to face the reality, the fact that they love Shelter only for this sad side.
I'm not fond of this and yet enjoy sad productions.
I'm not fond of this because the
...
only purpose of Shelter is to create an exaggerated feel of sadness, nothing else.
The story is cliché, the storytelling is utterly random and anarchic, characters are
b l a n d and the scenario is VERY predictable for a 6 minutes music video, where's my plot twist ?
But the story is mostly cliché because of this will to make a tearjerk, to dry your eyes.
For years, japanimation has been making this kind of content. Clannad, Shigatsu, those "sadsad" anime. They aren't horrible nor good, they're just frustrating because the only factor that people retain is "HOW SAD, I CRIED MY BLOOD".
And that's the same problem with Shelter, everything is made in order to make you c r y.
I can't even focus on the story because of this montage, those tears, this way to direct the movie.
And the music, god, the fudging music.
It's litteraly every-EDM/electro-track ever, nothing original, just the same sounds, the same tempo, the same rythm, the same drops, the same feeling of boredom when I listen to.
In the end, Shelter is bad, I mean it.
I wasn't expecting something great but the moment I understood it was about tearjerk, I almost screamed in my room, screams filled with despair.

You know what I like ? Grapefruit. It's tasty, crimson and spreads everywhere.
And you know what I like too ? B-movie horror film, so ridiculous it's fun.
Well, let's mix them up together with japanimation and see what happens. Oh, it exactly looks like Another, pretty strange, no ?
This, my friends and foes, is the ultimate proof that you can totally mess with a decent plot, giving birth to this ... I had some hope at the beginning. The atmosphere was creepy in a good way, the staging was slow, heavy, depressive. So much potential, so much good things could've been made. So why ? Why
...
it has to turn this bad. Guess the director can't deal with a decent story and have to copy Final Destination script, pushing the shit level lower at each episode. Well, it's somehow the original writter fault but guys, a good director know how to handle a bad scenario and make some great vibes to counterweight, look at Nisekoi.
So yes, I dislike Another a lot. First from an objective point of view because the story is bad and cliché as hell, the characters are stupids and it's absurdly gore and make me laugh at each death scene instead of shock me out, badly. And from and subjective point of view because god, it was boring. I've watched like two episodes and was about to kill myself from boredom.
Story - 2
I've come to japanimation to watch some originals series, to get some quality content, not this shitty scenario wrote by some ten yo. In fact, Another exactly copy all the things from a classical horror movie plot and it's why I'm totally pissed by. In term of real good horror, what does japanimation got ? Higurashi, Shiki ? Yeah, and this is some good stuff. So even if this medium isn't accustomed to that kind of theme, hell, how can you be more unoriginal ? There's juste every mother ducking screenplay element from a ducking horror movie. Main character arrive in some creepy small town and surprise, there's a curse on HIS classroom, lucky man. Elevator ? You are dead. Quietly rollin' ? You are dead. Got an umbrella ? You are dead. People die when they're killed and everyone die. You know what kids ? Don't play with death, it's such a bad thing. Anyway, the whole anime is just a following of more or less gory scenes ( grapefruit, yummy ), students keep coming in class like no ducks given and carton protagonist trying to help the others out. But well, the explanation of why there's a curse is already totally filled with screenplay ease bullshit so it's too bad, you can't help yours comrades from die an amazingly farcical death. The character of Mei Misaki was really interresting but the plot twist about her real identity and "mystical power" is shit + bullshit, badly. Sorry, I can't help myself from spitting on every single default but Another has way to much of them. 'Don't want to spoil you but just let's talk about a thing. So, your classroom is cursed by some bullshit who bring funny death events on everyone. What are you going to do ? A ducking stay in some old manor in the middle of nowhere, obviously. I think I don't need to say something else, you people are smart enough to see that the scriptwritter is considering that otakus are so stupid they can't see things coming. And god, the end is so like "yey, everyone die but I don't give a duck" that I was almost about to go rampage the P.A Works office.
Art - 6
Quite decent but seems less nice than others P.A Works productions. Look at Angel Beats, created about two years before and was more beautiful in any way of looking at, drawing or animation. But well, it's good enough to creep me out in the first episode, with an excellent game on shadows, oppressive decor and gorgeous sounds effects. Sadly, as the anime get further, it lost all charm and there's nothing but classroom or creepy ass manor. Grapefruit juice design was decent too.
Sound - 5
Not disappointed a single time by ALI PROJECT and Another isn't an exception. By the way, the opening is a LOT scarier than every "spooky" scene in the anime. I don't know who's the guy who made it but he got some talent, more than those stupid guys in charge of the storyboard in any case. The ending is beautiful and one more time, it was a lot better than the anime. Not in term of scare, but the music fit so well for that kind of ending, this is so mysterious with Mei disappearing at the end, without turning back. It's good, it's pretty good but so WHY the anime's so bad ? Sounds management was really oppressive at the beginning but became totally useless at the end. And well, the OST is forgettable, but at the point I can't even remember a single song.
Character - 3
Mei Misaki is a decent character and ?
I mean, where the hell are the others ? Even in horror movies we got some valuable casting ( it happens, sometimes, I guess ) but there's absolutely nothing here. The main character is ... well, flat and without personality, just a random highschooler, everyone is flat and has no personality in fact. Well, Izumi is maybe legit but that's all you got. Damn, if you can't build up a good story, give us good characters at least !
Enjoyment - 2
This anime was a pain in the ass to watch but the serie who's gonna make me drop it is not born yet. I like the show while two episodes, that's all. It only get worst and worst, falling in clichés, bullshit and others clichés. But well, every death gave me a little laughing moment, make the enjoyment quickly escape from an 1.
Overall - 3
Another is a terrible piece of shit. The plot is boring, the story's incoherent and disjointed. It started from a good idea but well, it was unoriginal as hell. Mediocre, it's just mediocre. I recommand you to watch another ( lol ) piece of horror japanimation if you want to see what our japanese friends can make about animated horror.

Sometimes, words can't describe how much you love something, how much you've take pleasure in doing it, how much it's beautiful. I should keep silence now but I need to express myself, need to tell people why I can't understand this show is so underrated in comparison to Shitgatsu.
I've watch White Album 2 in one day for two reasons. The first one is because I want to do it, that's a bit my chrismast gift ( I'm too poor to bought reals presents, see ? ). And the second reason is because I've enjoy it so much that my eyes can't unhook from the
...
screen. The second I've hear those three characters playing and singing together, I was totally charmed.
So, enough talking about myself, let me tell why this, ladies and gentleman, is not a masterpiece but close to.
Story - 7
Well, the story.
It's a bit classical at the beginning but get really good in the second part.
Because I've separated the anime in two parts, the before part and the after part. The "before" part is focusing on learning, training and mostly form relationship between the protagonist. I really love the way they met, It was outstanding. Well, I'm maybe getting a little excited now because It wasn't "awesome". In fact, It was almost boring, just like a generic school life start. But, over the clichés, I've found my drug in the following events and then, It was really good. The main characters get to know them better, but in a really good atmosphere. They're practicing music, and that's all. There we are, why I love WA2 so much. The characters aren't doing some random shits to make some fan service, no, they are doing what they are working for, the high school fair and mainly them light music club.
This part is good, really good but It can't beat the "after" part, who's happening after the concert ( Flash forward in the episode 1 and for real in episode 7 ).
Well, it's a psychological part and I don't know why, it's often compared to School Days. God, I'm gonna kill the first one who dare to say it. Yes, there is a love triangle, yes this is drama but no, it's not about killing and no, the male main character is not a dick like that Makoto faggot. fuu~
Well, I can't really tell you without spoiling so I'm gonna be clear.
This is probably six of the best episode I've ever seen and I was enjoying it as hell. It's deep and not trying to be some soft romance, no, It bears with real thematics, being very harsh, maybe gritty by times. But well, it was great, all the ways to the ending. And let's talk about it, the ending. Well, It makes totally sense and in some way, It couldn't be otherwise. I wasn't frustrated, not happy too, just a bit sad.
So yeah, the story is such rich in revelations, plot twist and entertaining dialogs. And god, the drama is good, it's good at a point I can't even define.
Art - 7
At the first thought, I was thinking of WA2 like some Kyo Anim or P.A Works production. But well, it's Satelight, a studio I wasn't knowing before. And so, I found the art legit. Yeah, it's correct for a 2013 anime, really. I kinda love the character design. The sceneries are beautiful, with a "palette très vive" like we say in France. It means colorful, a pleasure to eyes. And so, the animation was very fluid even if, like it's a VN adaptation, it was more talking than moving.
Sound - 9
God, that was gorgeous.
When, in the first episode, I got to hear the piano + guitar + voice version of White Album, I totally fell in love with and while I'm writing these lines, I'm still listening to. The OST in itself is not a masterpiece but just that god damn song is suffisiant to satisfy me. The opening is good, the endings are great, all of them. Well, for a music-related anime, bad music is impossible, don't you think ?
Character - 9
Kazusa Touma is my japanimation's favorite character, since her first appearance. Why ? Because I love her cold but thoughtful way to think, her honesty, her look and every single fiber from her body. Well, I'm maybe getting a bit creepy so .. AHEM. I truly love that character, that was a blessing to see her playing or just chatting with the others. She's bad at school but had a lot of qualities to erase her difficulties and stubborn mind. For the others, It wasn't super good but well, It wasn't bad at last. Haruki is a straight boy, who's lecturing others but with some reasons. He's not dishonest and always try to do the best for his friends or people in general. That guy is, I think, the perfect male protagonist for this type of anime, with love triangle. And ... then, I don't really like Setsuna. Not because of her choices in the late story but I don't really like her way to do act, nothing more.
But hell, finally an anime who's focusing on the protagonists and not on a supporting useless casting. It was just perfect for that kind of anime, really.
Enjoyement - 10
Yeah, a 10. I've never give a ten to any anime. The overall is a 8 because the story wasn't perfect but If I could rate by enjoyment, It mostly would be a ten. I was in love with this anime and I can't even hear people who are praising jus average animes like Shigatsu who bet everything in tearjerker, not giving enough stake to the story. It's sad, very sad and that's why I love if people start looking animes by another way than rating.
Overall - 8
WA2 is not perfect, WA2 is not a masterpiece but damn, WA2 is an excellent anime. I can recognize the defaults and yes, there's a lot of defaults in this anime but maybe less than others school-life musical stories. Yeah, you'll maybe dislike it because It's too slow to reach the climax or characters don't fit with the tastes of yours. But well, it's such a great anime at my eyes and I'm not gonna drop my opinion because of weebs legion. Coming for me, I'm defending my kingdom.

Ah, Clannad, another copy paste by sir Maeda, poorly.
Sometimes, I've hope for animes who take a wrong start, because It could be better later, I guess. But here, the atmosphere is the same during all the godamn 23 episodes, an atmosphere a way too slow for that kind of stuff. School life is already an difficult kind of show to make, because it quickly fall into clichés. So, with Clannad, we got a combo of all the errors you need to dodge to make a good anime. Let's get started so, enough of free insults without arguments.
At the beginning, few month ago, I was
...
thinking of Clannad and his sequel like the crème de la crème of japanimation, a chef d'oeuvre without any equal, a masterpiece of animu. But after some re-watching ( and viewing of other great animes ) I come to the conclusion that is just overrated, nothing else.
After all, it's like all key/maeda animes, the same story, the same overrating. Look at AB, for example. Who the hell it is rated 8.50 ? This thing doesn't worth 5, because it's too short, too anarchic, too fast-paced and there's a way too much bullshit in the end. And here, same problem, without the supernaturel side ( or not ). Maeda has a big problem with scriptwritting : this is always the same context. This is the same melo-drama high school atmosphere, the same male protagonist who seems inexpressive, the same female protagonist who's shy and got some serious illness, the same retard sidekick who's constantly the casting's punching ball. And this is always the f*cking same tearjerker, and shit, that's quite boring. I'm not against forced drama ( 'cause I'm a pussy ), that's why I like AnoHana or Shigatsu. But it mostly introduced at the END of the series, unlike maeda's shows where you're constantly about to tear bust. And made of tearjerker a main argument of watching is not a very very good thing, you see ? Because when you start criticizing it, people are like "it's so sad, how can you say it's bad ?" and so, the debate become sterile.
But well, let's talk a bit about the story in itself.
Story - 4
I love theater. I'm actually practicing it and I enjoy it as hell. But here's, theater is just a fake selling argument because except some few passages and the ending, this thematic is totally absent. Yeah, there are scenes where they're trying to do it but it's just to show some moe discussion. The reality it's that Clannad is not a theater show with some drama, it's a drama-moe show with some theater and that's very sad. Sad because it's exactly like Shigatsu, the show is not focusing on music but on drama. And that's why I found the story of Clannad totally devoid of all interest. There's absolutely no originality in the school-life part, all of the scenes are just scenaristic fragments of others series, nothing else. Another big BIG default is the lenght of some parts, like the Fuuko arc. Who, in this universe, give a single god damnit shit about some frickin' wood starfish, WHO ? This part is during almost 5 episodes, 5 EPISODES IN A 23 EPISODES FOR SOME STARFISH. Plus, it's was totally useless, except for the protagonist who gain some sympathy at the viewvers regards because "ohhh, he's helping everyone" and well, that's creepy...
Add the get-out-of-nowhere fantasy context and bingo, you got some shitty story, yey. Uuuuh, like I don't want to spoil you guys, it's better if we stop shooting at the ambulance now, don't you think ?
Art - 6
Well, moe animation. Some people are scared out byt those BIG eyes but well, that's not my case. I actually kind of like the character design, and the way to draw of the studio in general. I'm not a big fan of moe, ecchi and all of those weebs shit but well, it's agreable I must recognize. But If you don't like it, just look at those sceneries ! Just look at the encounter of Nagisa and Tomoya at the first episode. Cherry blossoms blooming, petals twirling, beautiful ! The animation is fluid and nice but the tears seems fake, a really bad point to an anime who's trying to make ya cry like a little girl.
Sound - 5
Ok, legit here. Legit because I hate that opening but love at an unimaginable point the ending ( this is one of the cutest thing I've ever heard ). And what about the ost then ? Well, Maeda is an excellent composer, not good as Yuki Kajiura or Nujabes, but still very good. But in a sens, I love some of the musics and I hate some others, that's very unbalanced. But in general, there's a good utilisation of musical themes.
Character - 3
To settle things, I love the Tomoya's character. He's one ( not in my top but still ) favorite male personn of all japanimation because of his coldness and attitude in general, the extrem opposite of Sunohara ( that I like too ). But for the harem ( lol ), god, I'm suffering. Nagisa is an absolute cliché of weak girl who's doing her best. I kinda like her look and voice but damn, she is so naive. Kotomi is stupid, drop that f*cking violin before my ears get rape one more time. The twins are ... well, twincest anyone ? Not some shoujo-ai there but well, Kyou is a bit like the coleric seme and Ryou the shy uke, pretty disturbing. Fuuko is a bitch, end. Tomoyo is an interesting character but well, she's not developped at all, badly. And the best character is obviously Nagisa's father. He's hilarious but mature, a bit like a higher level Sunohara ( less stupid too ). But well, his presence can't just delete the accumulated garbage by the harem-shit girls.
Enjoyment - 4
I like it sometimes but I found it too slow and unbearable more often.
Some parts are really sweet and worth watching, some others are just cancer for eyes and mind.
Overall - 4
Clannad is a bad anime. Not bad for his defaults, but bad because it's dishonest. The anime is trying to hide the evident lack of ideas by placing some theater element and that's very sad. Because If you it throw out, Clannad is just a melo-drama romantic school life story, like a tons of others before. I guess people are liking it mainly because of the after story, but well, if it was less bad, it wasn't perfect at all.

God I love Shinbou Akiyuki and Nishio Ishin. The first one as a director, for the way he has to film sequences, the beauty of each scene, the vertigo sensation everytime, even in dialogs moments. And the second one as a writer, because he's an incredible author. Father of my favorite show ( Katanagatari ) his dialogs are unrealistic, funny and often stupid by the way. Maybe he's a genius who's criticizing the brand new anime community in placing lots of nonsense in his writtings, maybe he's just a moran, good at makes weebs production, I don't know. But what I know is that these
...
two guys really fit well together, do they ? Both of them are the fathers of what we're talking about, the well known Bakemonogatari, part of a long saga. So let's stop talking about them and focus on the anime.
Well, before you guys say a thing, I want to warn you. First, as you can see in my introduction, my english is pretty terrible so sorry If my review is a bit approximative in term of language. Second, the grade I gave to, six, isn't a normal six. You see, I'm a bit "strict" and so this grade is maybe equivalent to a 8 or 7 in a "normal" list. Because yes, I love this show and It was a true experience.
Disappointing me at the beginning, Bakemonogatari has finally charmed the stupid elitist I am. Like I said before, this is pretty stupid but this isn't bad stupidity and let me explain why you don't have to take that show at the first degree.
Bakemonogatari is, I think, a critical lampoon about the modern japanimation industry. Fast-paced action, fan-service, bland dialogs and scenes and I pass... there's clearly a lot of reccurents problems, and by the way of exageration, Nisio and Shinbou are not only trying to show us panties, boobs and ass, no, mostly deliver a message. "Do you want some bitchies on your dick ?", "Was the 6728th last fight satisfying ?", "People are killed if they die ?" and that kind of stuff I'm talking about. But at the end, I'm still sceptic about that way of process because It can just be a classical weebs show with his clichés too. That's why I prefer to see Bakemonogatari as "melting pot" anime, where everyone can pull what he wants from, and there's no right thought. I'm not a big fan of ecchi nor hentai but it's still cool to watch because I can think what I want of.
But hold it there, I'm not don yet. Lot's of people are yelling at the fans, spitting on the serie 'cause it's just a "retarded weebs show", "pure nonsense" or even "stupid" and yes it is, for the stupid part. The anime is just a following of randomly generated-like sequences with stranges characters and strange story. So what ? I didn't see the point here.
This anime is clearly crazy and I've already give my advice about why. Bakemonogatari is trying to get the f*ck out of the crowding average mass, get up to a higher level. It's dangerous, because tons of people hating that kind of stuff but for the ones who like it, this is heaven.
But enough talking of the "sense", it's time to talk about the anime in itself.
Story - 5
Well ... the story is ... well.
It surely be a pain in the ass to tell the entire plot so let me do a quick summary in few words. Vampire lolicon guy saves a purple haired tsundere girl who doesn't weighs anything and then, a blond old man with an hawaiian jack try to exorcise a crab spirit out of her.
So yeah kids, drugs are bad. When I was talking about strange story, It wasn't a joke for the god sake. But it's there, precisly there that I see Bakemonogatari as a special show. If it was normally structured, with normal filming, normal characters, normal dialogs, it probably would be bad. And why is it good then ? Because of Akiyuki. The way he has to realize is perfectly fiting with that kind of plot. Thanks to him, the anime reveals all his potencial.
Anyway, after the first weird encounter ( and severals unrealistic dialogs scenes later ) we get to met the others characters. I'm gonna talk about them now ( Savin' this for later ) but wow, my mind. Spirit haunting, curse, monsters, you got everything here. Every god damn story is good, great, fantastic ! And ( warning, you're entering the mediocre philosophical zone ) I'm thinking of these stories like some rapports of the person in the modern society. For exemple, in the second story, we're following the adventure of a "lost snail", a girl who can't get back to her home. And strangly, when the protagonist is with her, he can't get back too. Honestly, it could describe a type of mentality like "You're gonna loose everythign if you stay with me" or "Some people needs to be alone". That's what I'm talking about, morals. Morals about behavior in the society, morals about people who doesn't respect others and I think the main character is representing of the society and the girls are various morals like madness, sadness, jealousy and others type of feelings.
And maybe not, maybe it's just a stupid story with randomly generated plot, maybe it's just a fan-service endless hole, maybe. But you can see it as you want, no ?
Art - 8
God, this is gorgeous.
If my eyes could cum, they would to.
For a 2009 anime, the graphism is exceptional. The animation is fantastic, the art is fantastic, every god damn thing in these drawings are fantastic. The landscapes are orgasmic for the retina. That's why SHAFT is my favorite studio, you're always sure about the graphic quality, no shit Sherlock.
Sound - 6
The OST is good, made by the guy who compose Haruhi, so yes.
And then, I didn't like any of the OP, badly.
BUT, I'm falling in love with the ending, it's absolutely awesome. And it's by- ow, supercell ... do they produce bad music sometimes ?
Character - 9
The best part, characters.
Bakemonogatari is the best show for character development in my opinion.
Arararararagi, the protagonist, is surely one of the best character of japanimation.
Character, character, character, character.
And each of the girls have their own personnality, their own way to react, to think, to do, they are not just copies of a classical archetype, no, they are cool.
From the cold tsundere to the athletic lesbian, passing by the annoying loli and the nymphomaniac childhood friend, all of those guys are really original.
Enjoyment - 8
Yeah, 8, because this is fun as hell.
In the first and second episode, I wasn't sure about but when I see what could be done in a climax situation, gosh I started to love it. Bakemonogatari is a double or quits series, you're gonna love it or hate it, there's no medium.
Overall - 6
So I'm giving a 6. You're gonna yell at me like "Y A SIX IF YOU LOVE IT NIGG ?". First, I already told you that a six is actually a good grade for me and after, because of the story. The plot isn't that good, yeah, and despite of all the good sides, I cannot stay deaf at all the defaults. It's an excellent anime but there's a way too much fan-service and nonsense, and even if it's made on purpose, it doesn't makes the thing good. But forget it, some great stuff here.

French guy here so don't blame too much for bad grammar, please.
Well, well, a new season of HDxD's copy then. Let's see what is about.
So, Shinmai maou no testament burst is about a harem who fought against gay demons, and that's all. This anime is a way more worst thant the first season who was already a waste of time, except if you love to get your face crushed in giant breast for the whole episode.
And we are there now, after the encounter of the most charismatic antagonist of all time ( god I love sarcasm ), harem-shit team continue they fantastic adventure in
...
the real world of the true reality. Between two ( almost ) hentai scenes, we get to know that there is some trouble outside and random people started to use magic to kill the protagonist. Except the fact of "how normal people could use mana", more boobs appears every second. After, demons, boobs, fight, boobs, demons, demons, gay demons, boobs and end.
What are you expecting of ? This is the lower-level of japanimation, just a soft-core hentai melted to a crappy storyline. All the interest lies in the "arguments" of female characters, nothing else. This is unoriginal, gross, stupid, dirty and mercantile. Nothing happened, the real time duration is like two days, characters are stupids, fights are lame and the ending is like "yay, everythign turns good, let's get in a big orgy pile together !" exactly like how the first season ended.
The art is not that bad but not that good for a 2015 anime and all the efforts are gone in the animation of deh bubs. The sceneries are bland on my opinion and extremely repetitive.
The sound is hilarious, nothing to say.
And I'm clearly NOT enjoying this, everything is so predictable that I can see come the outlet of a fight three episodes in advance.
So this is garbage, if you want an ecchi-harem anime who's well balanced, funny and pleasant to watch, go take a look on Highschool DxD. I'm not saying that's a good anime still but it's a way better than this piece of crap.
