Both... ...are very untypical Shounen. It does not simply revolve around being stronger and stronger, but have much more meaningful goals. ...start out lighthearted but are very dark in the core. A lot tragic moments in both. ...are very philosophical and aren't simply black/white. Good/Evil are questioned throughout the whole series, as well as God, the purpose of Life and similar themes. ...have people dying when they are killed. ...have similar characters, - a protagonist duo with one guy who is more fired-up (Ed/Alibaba) and another who is laid-back (Aladdin/Al). - Strong females in both (Riza, Winry, Armstrong etc in FMA, Morgiana, Kougyoku, Yamuraiha etc. in Magi). - Sinbad could be compared to Roy (idealists, wanting to change the world by being the Ruler) ...have an "evil" kind of organisation threatening the world whose goals become clearer throughout the series. ...involve twists and turns, enemies becoming allies, allies becoming enemies. ...have a lot more similarities you'll notice while reading. Be prepared for a long journey and an amazing ride in both :)
