In my interesting way of thinking, I count all OVA parts of a show as if it was one big show. This part of Rurouni Kenshin will be in my mind part of the same show as actual Rurouni Kenshin and the OVA series after that. If only the site allowed me to grade it all as a whole when I finish but that won't happen and I understand the reason of course. I must say I enjoyed this to no end and I can see why it is ranked so damn high on this site, it was phenomenal.
Story- The story was soooo complex and
...
dark and I really enjoyed that. It was the most realistic show I've seen to date and that was a nice change for my usual supernatural shows that I have come to love. Whether you're male or female, no one can resist a love story infused with bloody action and betrayal. This is the OVA in a nutshell. It adds all components of genres except comedy and horror making the show so deep and dark that will send shivers down your spine. I love a good tragedy, it adds character development and a emotional connection with an audience that cannot be reproduced. The pacing was perfect, literally perfect. I would not take away one second or add another second it was a great performance.
Art- The art was incredible. Anyone who appreciates good art in an anime would love this to no end. The colors are crisp, the blood is beautiful, and the scenery is exactly what you would expect to see in an animated dream. My personal favorite art work in an anime is FMA Brotherhood and I must admit that this show gave it a run for its money that's how gorgeous the art was.
Sound- The sound really depicted the ear in which the show took place. It had that older feel to it and was extremely appropriate for the show. In the versions I watched there was no opening nor an ending and that maybe a genius idea. Without either of those it adds an even more serious mood even if the songs were dark or ballad like. Very good idea not to add any opening or ending. I decided to watch the show in Sub and the actors nailed it, the performances were so good it's unbelievable. I give a lot of credit to the voice actors that portrayed such serious, dark, complex and sad characters in the manner that they did.
Overall it was a great show. I almost do not like giving anything a 9 or 10; it has to really deserve it and originally I had it at an 8. The last 2 parts of the OVA made me change my mind. The action was brutal and the story got so dark a flash light couldn't help. I give this show a lot of credit, I was skeptical about an anime concerning samurai and now I cannot wait to start the original series. This show is a must watch for anyone who enjoys love, hate, action, death, retribution, betrayal, and a complex set of characters that even when they do something awful, you understand why they did it. A solid 9 out 10 with no regrets what-so-ever.

Slayers Next. I had heard good reviews and I enjoyed season 1 (Slayers) so I could not wait to dive into Slayers Next and my oh my what a improvement from a pretty decent season 1.
Story- Season 1 had bad pacing, season 2 paced itself so fluently and everything flowed. It's only 26 episodes just like season 1 and everything works, there's even more comedy in this season which I thought impossible but this season was hilarious. There was better battles and more of them. It was an upgrade I have nothing bad to say about it. If I have nothing bad to say you
...
may be wondering why I didn't rate it a 10. That's because I do not like to rate anything a 9 or 10 unless it has a WOW factor that will last on me forever and frankly only a couple anime, movies, and OVA has given me that WOW factor. It was a really good anime without any WOW factor to put it up there with the FMA Brotherhoods or the DBZ's but it did a hell of a job and came so close to convincing me but not quite there yet; still a solid story and enjoyable one.
Art- You can see the improvement from season 1. The fights and spells are so much more colorful and pop out at you it's really good and once again a nice upgrade.
Sound- Well this was interesting. Slayers repeated a lot of their soundtracks and Slayers Next kept the same soundtracks and added more to them so it wasn't a constant repeat of scores so that was nice. The Dub cast was phenomenal once again and I really think having most of the cast from Pokemon helped a lot. My one problem is some effects are the exact same effects from other anime I have seen. I sat there to myself thinking "wow did someone go super saiyan?" but no such luck they were just powering up. But in the end it got to me to a point where I couldn't go higher than a 8.
Character- Well what can I say, the returning cast from season 1 was great along with their development. The new characters were amazing mostly the "mysterious priest" Xellos, he was bad ass. The villains though were the key to making season 2 awesome. There were two major villains and they were so ruthless and powerful that it had me on the edge of my seat.
Overall there's not much to hate about Slayers Next. There was no WOW factor that stood out but it was such a fun ride to watch. The battles were amazing, the characters were funny and Slayers Next had outdone Slayers in every single category and this is such an easy binge watch show. Once your hooked you can finish it in a day or two. I literally cannot wait to watch season 3 but if you enjoyed Slayers to a point watch Slayers Next because it is that much better and I promise you will have a great time watching it...

Ok, so I already did a DBGT review and I had strong opinions on why it isn't as bad as everyone says. Now it's time for my DBZ review and warning to all DBZ lovers I am going to trash on it... Just kidding, isn't that impossible?? DBZ has been known as the greatest anime and although I find that inaccurate it is definitively in the top five and the most influential anime of all time.
Story- I really wanted to give it a 10 across the board, but I just couldn't. Most of you who are reading this have probably seen DBZ or know
...
what happens in it. If you haven't seen it yet... let me tell you... the story is near close to perfect. To me everything is paced very well except for two arcs. The Ginyu force arc dragged on for way too long and it was getting extremely difficult for me to watch the whole arc the first time I saw the series. Also, the Buu arc. I love the last season, it's my favorite. But holy damn there is only so much I can take of the same guy regenerating constantly. I do not know why it dragged like that but in the end it doesn't kill the story. Also as a warning to anyone that hasn't seen it, there is filler in the show, but it aint like Naruto filler that lasts for 15000 episodes (obvious exaggeration) it's short and quick and actually entertaining. The story of an underdog never gets old nor does the fight for peace. It's truly a great story with very little problems.
Art- I have no problem with the art. It suits the whole show. And the way the attacks are and the fight scenes and energy attacks you can tell that the staff put hard time into making a masterpiece.
Sound- The tracks are so amazing in this show. You could easily buy a OST and listen to it in your house or in car and hum along to perfectly written pieces of music. The openings are really good and catchy. The second ending "Angel" is one of the best ending songs I have ever heard from an anime ever! And the Dubbing of DBZ is one of the best dubbing I have ever heard. There are only three anime where I can say that the Dub is better than the Sub.
Character- Even if you haven't seen the show, everyone knows the story of Goku and his friends. The cast of characters work so well with each other there is so much character development and personal attachments that a viewer can have with these characters making it a masterpiece. The villains make the experience even better. The villains are so powerful and have the most evil of natures compared to most anime that you love to hate them. I always said, the true way to make a story work is to not have the best good guy but the best villain. I'm sure that I am not alone on that saying.
So... DBZ. A lot of characters to love, plenty of villains to hate; a pretty decent pacing with the story, amazing fights and awesome sound and art. It's hard to argue with all the DBZ lovers because the show is that damn good. Personally, it is my 3rd favorite anime. The only two that are better IMO are FMA: Brotherhood and Yu Yu Hakusho. If you haven't seen DBZ and are reading this review, trust me and the general population, WATCH IT! If you have already seen it and are reading this review... WATCH IT AGAIN!! Now excuse me while I go Super Saiyan.

Dragon Ball GT... most everyone seems to hate it. I've seen GT rated below 5, I've heard people saying they don't consider GT part of the series and is a disgrace and all that hate. Those people (which are probably the majority of you reading this who have seen GT so don't get pissed) don't take it for what it is. GT is not perfect, not even close. But it doesn't suck more than a vacuum...
Story- I hear and read all the time about how "awful" the story is. Ok I admit, if the whole show was like the after Goku turns into a
...
kid but before the fight on Planet M-2 I would have trashed this show. But, it's not at all! The fight on M-2 really took everything up a couple of notches, the idea was so cool and of course the infamous Baby villain was introduced. Everything starts to fall into place for the Baby and Goku fight and c'mon... SS4 is one of the coolest transformations in the whole series, even if you knew it was coming. The Super 17 saga was very dark and powerful. It was short lived but it needed the DBZ aspect to come back and give GT some more life and add a good intro to the Black Dragon saga. I get very confused when people say "I don't like this saga". I don't mind your opinion but you gotta give a reason... Some of the dragons were lame but the last fight was one of the best in DragonBall, DBZ and DBGT because of the power of Omega Shenron, the "thing" that happens with Goku and Vegeta (for those of you that don't know I wont spoil) and just the magnitude of the fight was epic. So what are the bad parts of the story??? Pacing in the beginning was an issue. It was slow and boring to start off and that's a big turn off for people and then they are ready to bash on all the bad that comes next and if they do that, they overlook the good. Also there's a character problem but let's wait till I get there.
Art- This is weird but the art in the Baby arc and Super 17 arc was worse than the art of DBZ. Then it seemed like it changed a little for the final arc but it wasn't spectacular. I don't get bothered with bad art because I am in it for the story but I have to admit, seeing that an anime's prequel had better art than it did bothered the hell outta me. If you are someone that hates average or older looking art work than take caution.
Sound- I enjoyed the sound... it didn't copy all of DBZ's tracks (Thank GOD!) and I thought the opening is brilliant. The Dub is ok, I do not like kid goku and when he transforms and Sean Schemmel's voice comes back it's like heaven. Sound is really hard to judge.. I don't think I've ever watched something with bad sound and I hope I never do haha. But it was average no complaints accept for some annoying Dub voices.
Character- UGH! I am sure I am not alone on this. If I had two big problems on the show that I could rant about is 1.) why is Pan the most annoying character ever put on a screen... and 2.) why is it that no one accept for Goku and Vegeta can put up a fight? Everyone who was strong in DBZ is suddenly weak? Confusing nonetheless. The only reason I am not putting this lower is because of Goku, Vegeta, Uub, and the villains of the story.
So, DBGT. Everyone loves to hate it. If you're someone who has watched DB and DBZ but you fear GT because of the reviews take it from me. If you try and compare GT to the first two you are going to want to never watch it again, there isn't really a comparison. Take GT for what it is. It's a not so serious mood of some cool fights and new transformations. The ending is very heart felt and can make some tear up, if they got one thing right the ending of GT was as perfect as ever. Even the last movies was amazing and heart felt. Don't hate GT until you find both the good and bad. Give it the credit it deserves, it's not the biggest screw up of anime, it's just a decent final chapter to everyone's favorite hero Goku. Don't hate GT plz, give GT some love!

Well, Slayers; what an interesting anime. I think it was a trailer from a Dragon Ball Z movie that got me interested. And a couple of years later when I became interested in all sorts of different anime and step out of my one or two likes Slayers was on the top of my list.
Story- The story is diferent I must say. It's unique and this is one of the older animes from the 90's and do to popular opinion, it is part of the 2nd "Big 3". The reason why the story wasn't incredible is that the pacing seemed way off. I don't want
...
to give any spoilers but something happend in the beginning of season 1 (Slayers) that could have waited until the end of season 5 (Slayers Evoulution-R). Everything happens fast; it's not quite as jam packed as SAO and that may be a good thing but there was deffinatley room for more. There were some filler that did not belong and those were the really boring episodes that almost made me drop the anime. What really makes this anime worth your time besides a couple of good boss fights is the comedy. It is the funniest anime I have seen because of the interactions between characters, but i'll get to that later. But, if you are a kind of person that hates filler and will drop an anime because of it this may not be an anime for you. If you are considering dropping it after the first arc and little bit of filler a little word of advice... don't. Give it a shot, the second arc is much better and the pacing along with the bad guy will really leave you with a good taste in your mouth. Also, if you stick out season 1 and say "Ehh wasn't my style" that is totally fine because it doesn't end in a cliff hanger. Some animes that are "ok" make you go to season 2 because of the way season 1 ends and here if you don't like season 1 you won't lose sleep over it. (Cough Cough season 2 is 100X cooler and bad ass cough cough) so you might wanna stick it out.
Art- This is all preference. It is an older anime and looks older. If an older art style bothers you it really might not be a show for you because it does look old almost oil painted but I don't personally care when I watch a show. There are many other important things but if you care, take caution.
Sound- They reuse the same tracks over and over again and that can get annoying not going to lie. Good thing the 1st season is only 26 episodes long because they needed to come up with new tracks. The ending and opening were forgettable. Nothing too special but they didn't suck so that was a plus. I watched this in Dub and it is a little off like most anime Dubs are but i'll touch on why the Dub is still better than the Sub when it's time for the character review.
Character- These characters make the whole series worth it. They are extremely funny and are so interesting. Their attacks are so bad ass and so original. Not one character would survive without the others prescence with them. And the Dub cast is better than the Sub cast because the Dub cast is basacally most of the original Pokemon cast. It really is a nostalgic trip when they speak and you can hear the connection, it just flows better, the jokes are that more funny because of them. And the bad guys.... wow. If you like good solid bad guys that don't go down easily and keep you on the edge of your seat because of their power, this might just be an anime for you. Especially the second arc bad guy, it really made me enjoy the show that much more.
So a re-cap. Slayers has problems. The start has pacing issues and a couple of boring filler. The soundtracks repeat, and for some, the art may be too old. But, the characters and their witty jokes and the overall comedy and story cancels out the issues. Slayers has been considerd a Cult Classic but that's including the other 4 seasons which I have not finished them all. I can say, Slayers is worth your time if you are on the fence about it. I enjoyed the comedy and the fights. No anime is without problem but I have seen worse. Overall 7 out of 10. Give it a chance, if you don't like it don't fret, it may not be for everyone but it was a fun ride for me...

Sword Art Online may be one of the newest anime that has the chance to become part of a new big 3. There has been a couple of "Big 3's" throughout the years. It started off with Fist of the North Star and DragonBall and the original Gundam. Then into Slayers, DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho. Later anime presented itself to kids and out came Yu-Gi-Oh and pokemon and Digimon. Then finally now the big three is Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach and their popularity is starting to fade. Will Sword Art Online ever belong in a Big Three? If they get their act together
...
because the show has potential.
Story- The story is one of the most original stories I have ever witnessed. Everything in the story can lead to something unexpected. They are all in a game world where you can only leave if you beat the boss at the end of level 100. That literally could span 60+ episodes but there is the problem with the story. If you have a problem with pacing, you are going to be very unhappy with this anime. Everything happens so fast and frankly the whole show could have done without the last arc. If Sword Art Online were to put more episodes about the actual Sword Art Online and forget about the last arc the show would have been a million times better. They rushed everything and in the last arc there is a creepy character who likes a family member more than just a family member, if you catch my drift. They really did underutilize the story.
Art- Although the story was really "meh" the art was fantastic. If you like bright vibrant colors that explode in your face as you go into the new world Kirito leads you on you are going to enjoy this anime quite a lot, well maybe just the scenery...
Sound- The soundtracks are pretty decent just average. The openings were not that bad but they are definitely not the best and avoid the ending songs in my opinion. They were not that catchy to me but if you want to give it a try by all means go ahead. I watched this in Dub and I give this show credit, the Dub is really really good. I don't know anything about the way the Sub sounds but it's really all about preference.
Character- This is where the lack of pacing affects the rest of the story. There is character development with only ONE character. The villains were so superbly creepy and menacing until the first one reveals his motives which leaves you scratching your head. There are many cool characters that deserve time to shine but you barley get to see them. Very disappointing.
In the end I enjoyed it to a certain degree. It has a lot of flaws but a lot of promise. If you are uncertain whether you want to watch it or not I must say give it a try. Even if it's not awesome it's still got the right stuff to make you keep wondering what's next. There is a season 2 coming out this year so all my hopes are in it learning from the mistakes of season 1. But in the end I give it a 6. Not the best, Not the worst, has cool fights, cool enemies amazing art and a lack luster pacing but do give it a try because I have a feeling season 2 will knock everybody's socks off and you gotta start somewhere. Who knows, maybe it will join animes like Fairy Tail and HunterXHunter in the newest edition of a Big 3.

Well, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple... probably the most surprising anime I have ever seen.
Story- For the most part I love a story that starts off with a weakling and he/she trains hard and becomes more and more powerful as the show progresses. That's what you get with this anime. I had interest a long time ago and finally got the chance to watch it. The anime itself is only 50 episodes and then after that is a bunch of OVAs that follow the story. This isn't just a fighting anime, the comedy is very good in both the Dub and Sub versions so what
...
ever one you decide, you are going to find it enjoyable. The fights in the anime are very good in the beginning and anyone who likes to see people train and get stronger this is an anime for you. There is some "filler" but not really; there isn't any fighting but it does serve purpose to character development. Towards the end of season one the fighting gets kinda boring and then season 2 comes in. The fights continue to get better and better and come more frequently. If you found season 1 too slow, stick with it because season 2 kicks it into overdrive! The last fight of the series shocked me beyond belief... It blew all the other fights in the show out of the water and in my opinion, although the anime isn't in my top 5 favorite... the last fight was my second favorite fight of all time.
Art- The art was flawless. There wasn't anything too flashy or ridiculous it was fine art that really couldn't have been done any better. Kenichi was made in 2006-2007 so the art was just as good as most modern anime although in my opinion doesn't surpass FMA brotherhood in art but that IMO was my favorite art in an anime.
Sound- About as average as you can get. The sound kinda repeats itself but it doesn't really take away from the anime. The endings aren't that great but the 2 openings are really really good!
Character- So characters.... hmmmm. Well Kenichi is an awesome protagonist and the bad guys are incredible. The masters that train Kenichi are so interesting and I would watch a series about each one of them but that's the thing. They don't have a lot of time to shine but when they do, it's never a dull moment. Miu, Kenichi's crush, is awesome but the real big down fall is Kenichi's "friend" Shirahama. He is so incredibly annoying and it might be hard for people to watch the show if they can't stand annoying voices although I must say the Sub voice is much less annoying than the Dub voice.
I had a really fun time watching this anime, it was really quick and on Netflix along with other anime watching sites of course but anything on Netflix is usually easier to watch and Netflix has both Dub and Sub versions. I give it a 9 out of 10. Very fun to watch, awesome fights, cool characters for the most part and a story that will make you cheer and route for Kenichi as if he were real and it may even inspire you to take up a martial art since he learns 5 types... Just saying it's very realistic...

Yu Yu Hakusho (yyh) is my personal favorite anime of all time. It's gritty and witty and violent but sincere. The story is a masterpiece; it's easily one of the easiest binge watching shows of all time and it has 0 filler and no that is not an exaggeration! 0 filler episodes. Some may argue that the final Three Kings Arc is the worst arc and was rushed and I agree to a point. Yes it could have been less rushed and more thought out but, the last arc had in my opinion, one of the greatest anime fights of all time.
The art was
...
great... It was an older anime and some people who are not used to the cell animation may not like the art so much but it is really easy to get used to.
The sound was incredible. All the pieces of work were so good and there were quite a variety so even though they were played a lot more than once, there was always a different score for a different situation and the tunes are very catchy.
The characters are so complex. To be fair, there is a little inconsistency with some of the main character's back story but at the same time one can see that it may not be so bad the character could have forgot but nonetheless it was nothing that took away from the story. There was exceptional character development with all the characters both good and bad that left me personally feeling emotionally attached to almost all the characters.
I of course enjoyed yyh it is my favorite anime of all time but I'm sure that people do not enjoy it. It is extremely violent so if you are not into extreme violence this probably isn't the best anime for you to see.
My overall score is a 10. Everything in this anime flowed. Awesome fights and villains. Humor non stop and of course amazing character development. I recommend this anime to anyone who has been interested but never got around to watching it, it could be the best thing you ever watched. And this is my first anime review so please... if it wasn't good go easy on me....
