Sometimes I look at the MAL user reviews and I see someone using clever words and arguments to give something a 1/10, and then someone else directly beneath them using a different set of clever words and arguments to give the same thing a 10/10. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and sometimes you have to make a conscious effort of the imagination or use your emotions or emotional empathy to get a satisfying or meaningful experience from something - whether it be in real life (solitary or with other people), or from a book, music, anime, movie, etc. There's a quote from the French writer Stendhal that goes something like: 'A novel is like a mirror. An ass (an animal like a donkey) cannot look into it and expect to see the face of an angel.' Similarly, when someone is looking at an anime, part of what they're getting back is simply a mirror reflection of themselves.
I agree that IQ might be useful for measuring certain cognitive abilities but I don't think it accounts for everything.
There might be different types and varying degrees of emotional intelligence, creative abilities/intelligence, imaginative abilities/intelligence, memory, and many different subjects and areas of expertise. What about receptivity, sensitivity, intuition, and wisdom? What about subjective experiences and common sense? What about knowledge of and insight into oneself?
Can those even be measured or quantified?
