Many who watched this series have missed the point of it, it isn't like the original, no it wasn't supposed to surpass it like many suspected here. It is here to complete it, you may have not noticed but the original had many things that we had yet to see. This isn't a what if story either, this is the story of Okabe who failed to find Steins Gate, the same one who fell under depression because of it.

I'll start with story, the STORY WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS:

Story obviously is a 10 for me. At some point during the Steins;Gate 0 I truly doubted if this ... was gonna live up to it's hype or fail like many sequels. Many hate it because they expected the mad scientist earlier, many were expecting too many time traveling and got sad. When the first episode of anime aired, it had a score of 9.16 I think, it was truly the best episode I had yet seen, it captured the mood perfectly, it shows us that Okabe of this world line is very depressed, but more importantly the scene where he sees many bodies of Kurisu shows us his fear. His fear that he will always fail no matter what, the fear that no matter what Okabe does, it will always result in him sacrificing somebody to save somebody else. We can see this during the rest of the show, till the point where he is forced to change the future yet again. At some point I thought too, where is this story going? How will it link to the OG Steins Gate, I really doubted the middle parts of the story honestly. One of the main important points of the story is how Kurisu is the one who even though dead starts a world war. It is always her curiosity that results in something bad to Okabe, in Alpha world line we had Sern which in a way it is both Okabe's fault and hers, in Beta we have WW3 which starts because of Kurisu's thesis. We see this through the Amadeus, we see a lot through Amadeus, why Okabe calls Kurisu Christina, how even dead Kurisu can change the world.
I'm going to skip all this to the episode 16, where we get to see an actual character development in Mayushi, I really never saw her point in O.G steins gate but honestly in Steins;Gate 0 she became one of my favorites. The reason is simple, she always loved Okabe, she always thought of him as the one who can change the future, the one who can bring peace, she always regretted not having Okabe go back to save Kurisu, it really made me break down. After trying to go to time machine and being blown into pieces, Okabe goes back to time leap but ends up in PR, in year 2036. Okabe now has his eyes wide open, he sees what will happen to this world line if he doesn't find steins gate. I forgot to mention that he was in coma and he suffered a lot when waking up, and when he started time travelling again so he can go back to year 2011, it must have fking hurt waking up in that pain. The fact that he spent around 8 years (I'm assuming that is the time it took him, could be way more or less) to go back in time and save everyone must have been painful, he had to explain everything again and again and again. A strong character in my opinion, I would go insane (you all would). BUT THAT WAKES UP THE MAD SCIENTIST! You should watch the rest honestly (too lazy to explain).

Art 8: This is the part which sucks, at times it is very good and at times it sucks. That is all about it honestly, the background though is even better than the original in my opinion, which I really loved.

Sound 10: Many of the songs that played were awesome!!!! They set the mood perfectly, the first OP and ED are in my playlist now.

Character 10 : Now this is the point that I wanted to get at. Many say that Okabe is a one dimensional character, honestly fk you all who said it. You just don't know why he is going through all that. To others it was like Okabe just went emo one day, nobody knows why, he can't tell anybody because who knows if Sern might listen. That is honestly very depressing in my opinion, we see during the 23B he looks very sad but at same time tries to look happy in front of Mayushi, that is a very strong character in my opinion. As the show progressed, we saw him slowly bounce back to his old self, the interactions between [Kurisu] and him were awesome, we saw other sides of him that we never saw in OG. And at end the mad scientist was still the same, the idiot who cracks up good jokes and has well out of this world delusions.

Enjoyment 10 : Honestly as long as you liked the original, you're fine.

As many who started this, I was very happy to find out the Chief Director of Steins;Gate was directing this shit. I mean this is shit. I'll try to keep it short why it sucks and why you shouldn't watch it.

Story 5: It just makes no sense, they just throw at you without explaining anything. The story could actually work very well if it wasn't for the shit directing, it is awful, did this guy really do Steins;Gate directing? My main issue with the show is how they treat the enemy threat, you see one enemy approaching you, what do you first do? Think about ... how would you avoid conflict if you can and think of battle strategies. A normal human should be able to see what is wrong with this shows action, it is brainless action that gets solved in like a second in this anime? I honestly almost fell asleep while watching this.

Art 5: Nothing much to say, they can actually animate the car very well which is where their budget went to I guess. Other than that all characters look mediocre, the animation is mediocre.

Sound 7 : They got this thing right in the OP actually, the OP is awesome just as expected from sound director of B:The Beginning.

Characters 5 : Oh man, how much I hate the characters of this show. There is this guy who has some rules that he "never" breaks. SMH honestly all he does is contradict those rules and make no sense most of time. The MC is bland af, I have seen many MCs from mediocre anime that had redeeming qualities, but this guy has none. No personality, not even fun to watch. I don't wanna go on side characters honestly, you probably have seen them on many mediocre anime. The antagonist is also the worst antagonist I have ever seen, even Acnologia was way better.

Enjoyment 4: Eh, just save yourself the time.

In conclusion, it has potential honestly maybe this is all some foreshadowing. We saw something in episode 4 that makes all this character thinking be actually logical but at this point I doubt it. The studio is new and the episodes were released earlier than expected which may explain why they were rushed. I'll say this if those 4 episodes were to be expanded in to 8 episodes, it would feel less rushed and it would make more sense. Like I said my main issue is with directing.

But, for some reason, their way of life, struck me as profoundly beautiful. It was beautiful, I felt.


This quote is what got me to watch it, this is the only thing they did right in my opinion. The 02 and Hiro relationship but even that doesn't redeem this anime for me. At first episodes, like to episode 15 this anime had a 10/10 for me but that is ... where this anime peaked at episode 13 and episode 15. From there there are only 2 good episodes which I'll be honest weren't even close to the level of first few episodes. The show gets worse and worse everytime after episode 15. They ruined Zero Two, the character that everyone loved was just another Asuna after episode 15. To me it seems like Darling in the Franxx wanted it all, a story like Eureka Seven where oh god Darling in the Franxx isn't even close to Eureka 7, they wanted the cool mecha fights of Gurren Laggan again they failed here (not a single mecha fight was good either) and they tried pulling on us the alien shit again which in my opinion just sucks, please stop doing it trigger.

Art style and sound were very good, I loved the art at times and it was 10/10 at times but at times it was a 5/10 at most. Though the ost was amazing for me to be honest.

Characters on the other side, I liked the development most of the cast got. Hiro at the beginning was my least favorite MC of Winter and Spring but his development was the best during the series. At first he was just like your basic harem MC or even worse, he couldn't connect into the Franxx and wasn't allowed to pilot, his Jian bird quote was the best way to start his character but he was just flat boring in the first episodes. In my opinion when anime characters lets say trust X character because he's a nice guy, that anime gets a score less from me, but this wasn't the case here, Hiro had proved to everyone that he was worth of their trust (giving even worthless parasite names). At the end, when I compared him to the beginning he was just way better, he wasn't living to fight anymore, he was fighting to live now. 02 is just great at beginning, one of the best characters to be created this year, had it all cute, great personality, tragic past and most importantly that killing smile. Wish they kept it at that. Rest of the cast is good, all I have to say for it.


Enjoyment side, I really enjoyed it at first few episodes like I said, it had an interesting art style, loved the world building, loved everything for it but most importantly I loved what they had in store for us.

Tl:DR: Watch it if you like romance, drama and a bit action. Other than that, I would say you won't enjoy it.
