Before and after Code Geass, these anime shows were the highlight of their popularity written by those involved with Code Geass (Goro Taniguchi-Scryed and Ichiro Okuichi-Guilty Crown). Supernatural powers are the focus of the story regarding a phenomenon that devastated the world (Great Uprising and Lost Christmas) and at the same time a group of freedom fighters sought to achieve independence from an oppressive regime (HOLY and GHQ). As the story unfolds, later do things become more complex and twisted that the crusade shows it's true colors.............

These manga star children fighting their lives on the line to defend the city as soldiers and deconstruct the main theme that started off as a boom for all anime/manga genre. The teacher and student trio are identical: -Misato and Shinji/Rei/Asuka -Kakashi and Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura As the story goes on, a conspiracy begins to unravel a plot that is said to doom the entire world via a certain plan involving certain monsters to aid in their plan via conquest. One can say that before Naruto, NGE is the thing during it's era for mecha before Naruto did for shonen. If not for NGE, Naruto's plot elements and references would not exist.

Many will say that Kingdom Hearts is a Bleach ripoff and if so, you are all right on the mark as Bleach was released in 01 and Kingdom hearts was released in 02. The concept is similar since the plot revolves around a young boy who gains a supernatural blade capable of defeating countless dark entities along his way coming from an unknown multidimensional territory. As the story goes further, it becomes one to the cast rescuing a female captured by a powerful force whose male representative serves as an obstruction to it.

The setting of both shows take place where status quo matters bridging the gap between prosperity and poverty. Later, as the plot unravels begin to unravel the conspiracy who plots to use/overthrow the status quo for their own ends. The art between the two are mature and stylish enough to portray that they are one of the well written shows in the Shonen realm. The music that is composed in these two shows are top notch to the degree that it would captivate the viewer into continuously watching the show (Shiro Sagisu-Evangelion and Masaoki Endoh-Gundam 08th MS Team).

Both contain religious themes and motif that takes place in a post apocalyptic setting (Second Impact for NGE and G.O.D. for YGO Arc-V). Both shonen shows revolve around an idealistic teenager who stumbled upon a supernatural source of power (Ichigo for Bankai and Yuya for Odd Eyes) involving a girl important (Rukia and Yuzu) guided by a mysterious mentor known for his intellectual prowess and shady morals (Urahara and Reiji). A conflict involving multiple dimensions gets caught up in the process while at the same time not as genuine as it is as the story rolls on. These shows are orchestrated by an all time greats (Shiro Sagisu for Bleach and Kotaro Nakagawa for Yugioh Arc V).

Yugioh Arc V and Gun x Sword involve a story of a mysterious object (Odd Eyes and Dann) that would serve as a key to unravel the mystery later in the storyline while the protags who are the owner climb their way to meet unlikely allies and strong enemies along the way whose background shows more than what we know of. Shun Kurosaki's vengeance against Academia reminds me of how Van wants to get his towards The Claw. Kotaro Nakagawa composed both shows with the only difference is that Gun X Sword is mecha themed show and Yugioh Arc V is a card game themed show. Directors Katsumi Ono and Goro Taniguchi are legendary when it comes to writing these stories involving other greats (Yugioh 5Ds for Katsumi Ono and Code Geass and Scryed for Goro Taniguchi).

Protags in both shows are weak but get stronger as they chase after their rivals who are considered powerful than them. Both shows are composed by Kotoro Nakagawa and were aired in TV Tokyo.

Both revolve around the pollution of Earth and to the extent the corruption and vile nature of humanity making these two films a decade to see of their respective eras. Miyazaki and Tomino were no doubt at their peak when writing the stories of both stories (Miyazaki for the film and Tomino for the LN before it was a full fledged film decades later). During the time of their eras, these films revolve around the pollution of Earth and the corruption of humanity that explores more into the nature and the very personalities of the civilization that drove them into such state. One can say that Hayao Miyazaki and Yoshiyuki Tomino were at their peak at that time (Miyazaki writing more of Ghibli movies and Tomino as the helm of HF back when it was a LN alongside directing other Gundam series during the period). These theatrical showing serve as conclusions to their respective tv series that wraps up the majority of the conflict starting in the first episode. Though different, EoE is meant to create as an alternate ending as a proper sequel to the semi last episode of NGE whereas CCA is a follow up from the UC trilogy that consists of 0079, Zeta, and ZZ. Both are revolved around a plan (Human Instrumentality Project and Axis dropping to Earth) per antagonist's agenda (Gento wants to reunite with Yui and Char continues to follow his Zeon Zum Deikun's philosophy but in a twisted manner following the events of Zeta). It is up to the protagonists (Shinji and Amuro) to stop them as the entire fate of the world is thrusted upon their shoulders. The endings in both series have a somewhat identical feel per convoluted and endless speculation that led to many fans in years to come of whether or not they have reached to a proper conclusion per countless theories and debates.

Both were released in the same year as smash hit mecha series featuring a movie that is reminiscent to that of the previous conclusion of the main series taking place way back before the 2000s. Where Hathaway deals with the conclusion of CCA following the pollution of the galactic superpower, 3.0 + 1.0 takes on cues from End of Evangelion as a way to retell the story under a different revision. They are stellar in writing, music, and animation (Tomino and Anno, Hiroyuki and Sagisu, and Sunrise and Production I.G.) Protagonists (Hathaway and Shinji) suffer trauma that happened in the previous war that led them to developing psychological issues per story and character development while at the same time the other faction continues to advance in their agenda (NERV and Earth Federation) opposed by the heroic faction (Mafty and Wille). If you have watched both, great or if not, you must watch them as part of the legacy that will go down in mecha history.
