A synopsis of the plot, so we have some common ground: In the year 2039, Japan is recovering from the out break of the "Apocalypse Virus", a strange illness that appeared 10 previous. The small nation is under the tyranny of GHQ, a military force using violence and shady methods to controll the Japanese. A group named "Funeral Parlor" led by Gai Tsutsugami, fights this group to free Japan from the clutches of the GHQ.
One Day Shuu Ouma (our hero), bumps in to Inori Yuzuriha, a member of "Funeral Parlor", Shuu is unwillingly bestowed "The Power of the King" which allows him to pull individual's
...
"voids", a manifest of a persons heart. Shuu now being the only one, that can lead "Funeral Parlor" to victory, is forced to join its ranks and discovery the secrets that the GHQ and the "Apocalypse Virus" contain.

This show has a kick ass concept. Sure it borrows form some popular works like "Code Geass", but it still has enough originality to make it cool. Each person having their own special void was interesting as it said a lot about a character and their personality.
As far as the actual plot goes... it is um, let's just say it's a lot of ideas that were jumbled together to try and make an action/romance/physiological plot. This show contains a lot of writing which gives play to plot convenience, many of the loose ends in the show are just left to some BS letting it happen, like people that can't use their voids and then completely trashes that later on.
Also the show takes no time to explain things and leaves important plot expansions in side conversations, like voids only being able to be drawn from those 17 and under. I could have a list of probably 30 different things that the show does not explain, but you get the point. Also when the show does explain things they half-ass it to get back to fan-service or some more eye candy action, leaving the viewer more frustrated then satisfied.
Last thing to trash on are the characters, many of them are complete assholes and serve no purpose except to make Shuu suffer and feel like complete garbage. The writers try to make Shuu a tragic hero but he goes through the same character arc at least three times, literally its him being a pussy till the story forces him to grow a pair of balls. Other than him, Gai, and Inori are the other protagonists. Inori was an interesting lead love interest she is suppose to have major ties to the plot but thats undermined by shows attempt to make her and Shuu's "relationship" the driving force of the whole narrative. Gai is probably the only character that was developed and had the audiences heart, he was cool, aloof, and an all out badass, and his sacrifice was genuine, but the show craps on that and throws all that away to try and make an ending to a weak narrative.
The supporting cast is where the show shines, many of the members are interesting and make you root for them more then the main characters. One example is Ayase, she spends the entire show in a wheel chair and pilots a mech, she is one the most developed, and doesn't completely trash on Shuu. Tsugumi is another side character that is great, her personality and abilities make her stand out amongst the cast.

Its no surprise that the animation in the show is eye candy, the fights and GCI look firkin amazing. Production I.G. out did them selves its so pretty to see them go all out in animation.
Also the sound track is done by Hiroyuki Sawano who did Attack on Titan so you know the music is kick ass. Many of the songs get the hype up and beautiful animation makes the fights the best part of the show.
-
In the end Guilty Crown was an alright show with crappy writing that sold it short, just goes to show that pretty animation and music don't make a show.

Sword Art Online is anime that often gets a bed rep, a lot of reviewers trash on it. SAO is in no way perfect but to the average anime viewer its a nice dip in the water for any one new to anime.
-
Im Kinda biased about SAO because it was one of the first anime that I watched, and what got me into anime in the first place. At the time i was really into fantasy and RPG's so the show was like the holy grail for me. I loved the first 12 episodes so much and found my self rewatching them all the time.
...
I loved the sound track and how alone Kirito was, maybe that was my cringe middle school self but I still loved the show.
Which is who I fell SAO is really for, the average anime viewer. The show is easy to pick up and binge, with a plot that is easy to follow that has a dark theme to it. This is one of the shows that I recommend to almost every one thats asks for an anime to watch. When you brake it down the plot has holes and it's easy to trash on the poor writing and cliches that it follows. But the show has charm that makes me come back to every once and awhile.

Now putting my criticism hat on let's take a look at the shows flaws. First things first, the beginning 12 episodes felt rushed, there is not nearly enough world building to get a full sense of what enicrad really was. SAO only shows a handful of floors and locations making the game seem small. Kirito and Asuna don't have a lot of screen time together, we only get about 3 episodes of them hanging out and then they're the shows main romance. I found my self not liking how the first half of season one ended, sure the fight was cool but I would have preferred more time in the game.
The Fairy dance ark or part 2 of season 1 is dog trash. I liked that Kirito was trying to save Asuna from Sugō, but thats this seasons only redeeming quality. The whole incest plot line was wack, and doesn't really make sense to plot besides to add a girl to the harem. Same thing with Alfheim online there is pretty much no world building in this game, the show just throws you in to the world.
-
SAO is an overall okay show, it's once that almost anyone can enjoy. Anime fan or not it still one of most influential anime to date.

Akame Ga Kill is an edgy show that has excessive gore and dark themes. It tries to steer away from the typical shonen tropes by including gore and death. When a show tries to be different it often forgets to focus on character building and other important aspects of writing just to stand out. Akame Ga Kill is a prime example of how shows like this fails.
-
The story of Akame Ga Kill follows Tatsumi, who goes to the capital to find money to send back to his starving village. The capital is the center of land where all the opportunities and money are held. However
...
Tatsumi soon realizes the capital is a corrupt place where those in power abuse the people of the land. After Tatsumi sees the Corruption in the capital he soon joins "Night Raid" a group of assassins trying to over throw government.

At frist glance Akame Ga Kill is different form the stereotypical anime: It's dark, it's edgy, theres gore. Other reviews say that the show is very generic at a deeper look at the show. Personally this aspect of the didn't bother me that much. I like the underdog story of Tatsumi getting stronger as times goes on, and who doesn't like a good harem in a show. However i found that to be one of the shows flaws It constantly jumps around form girl to girl making it hard to find a romance in the show that you want to happen. And when the romance does happen in the shows it's short lived, leaving the view more frustrated than enjoyed.
The main cast of the show "Night Raid" are the characters that you spend of most time with and are suppose to have the biggest emotional attachments too. Tatsumi is pretty basic as far as protagonists he's strong, kind, and has a sence of justice. I still found Tatsumi to be an enjoyable character ,he may be a wimp at times but I still liked him. The other members of the team are Mine who is the tsundre trope character, they give her a reason for fighting but its pretty forgettable. Bulat is "Big Bro" character who is the burly musical character with a lot of heart. Shelle is the clumsy soft hearted character who is kindest of all the main cast. Leone is the "Big Sis" character, her only quality was for fan service and has very little development. Lastly their is Akame who is technically the true main character but she has little to no backstory, and shows no change over the course of the plot.
The main antagonists of the show the "Jaegars" are led by General Esdeath who is the big bad, a quality that the show does have is that it makes you dislike the villains. Esdeath is cold hearted killer who only knows the battlefield. Bols is giant fire using phyco while a gas mask on constantly. Dr. Stylish is crazed scientist that uses humans as his test subjects. Wave and Run are two normal people in the group who are the two anti heros. Wave is just a copy past of Tatsumi (they even have the same imperial arms), and Run is the calm more composed character.
Seryuu is another member on the "Jaegars", she is probably most hated in the entire show. Her flawed view on "justice" kill all those that a-pose the empire with no remorse, the show does a great job at showing her craziness and how she got crazy. She is twisted as hell and it makes sence to viewer to hate her. Seryuu gives a good opposite view of what each side if fighting for, one part where the show shines.

So, one way the shows tries to stand out is that it kills members of the cast. Im not opposed to characters dying in stories as long as the deaths purpose is to advance the plot. Most of the time when a character dies they have a flashback right before their eyes and then die. This is a major flaw in the shows writing, ever character gets little to no characterization and their death leaves you feeling cheated out of an enjoyable character. When they willy nilly start killing off all of the main cast in the end of story its more frustrating than anything else.
I don't hate this show, I think that show has strengths in some areas. But in the end i felt more frustrated with show and upset at the ending. The sound track in the show is amazing, one the best that I have ever herd. And I did enjoy the animation at times, especially when it did cool sketch art of the characters. Ive seen this show dubed and subed and I think both are okay, I liked the take on characters that the dub did.
